And my other less rational reason, is that Kanno Youko is not on board. You decide if that is a sound reason or not. |

Actually Megumi did sing. I remember versions of Fly to the Moon even in some disc of Megumi AFAIK.
Well i was thinking the same about Kanno... it can't be helped since the strong connection between Kanno and Maaya That would be sick... Anno, Sadamoto and Kanno (well Sagisu is not an amateur though) working under the same roof, with megumi hayashibara, kotono mitsuishi and maaya sakamoto, seki tomokazu, koichi yamadera, takehito koyasu, etc... It's like "Anime's All Stars".

Hayashibara did indeed sing a few of the god knows how many versions of Fly Me To The Moon. As did Kotono Mitsuishi.
Guess they could have Maaya Sakamoto do one as well if this was a TV series, but with it being a movie, who knows. The ending theme is probably already reserved for Utada Hikaru. |

Fushigi no Umi no Nadia. Kimagure Orange Road. Eva (you pick the flavour ) KareKano Abenobashi maho shotengai Bleach And about the "All Stars" thing, i forgot Masayuki and Tsurumaki... the amount of win working in rebuild of evangelion is amazing. Ah... not to mention another GIANT in Japan like Hikaru Utada... I can imagine: "hey Anno-San, who will sing the ending?, Maaya-san or Hiki-san..."

I mean, Evas don't look particularly pretty, but at least they look kinda cool. The new one just looks retarded.

I bet it made Anno happy, though. His attempts at saying "You suck!" Japan has been thwarted by Sadamoto's drawing style.
Anno: I want Rei to be extremely creepy! *Sadamoto draws Rei* Anno: That's not creepy! And why does she have the biggest bust?! |

Well, in Ouran, Haruhi was explicitly stated to be unable to sing. Hence, Sakamoto-san did not get the chance to flex her vocals. In "Maata Ashita", she only speaks (and giggles).
As for Rei, it is less of YS's art than the plotline itself. Anno-sensei, if you want us to be scared of Rei, don't make her the Woobie. Still, YS's art of her smiling in the manga is a Crowning Moment for me personally.

I actually think Mari's EVA is pretty cool and I think I know why its designed this way.
In the earlier trailers, this EVA was shown moving fast through a tunnel, I suspect a train tunnel. See those two attachments on the shoulder plates? It could be for connecting to the overhead cables that supply power to trains. All EVAs need an electrical power source, if this EVA is running rails, an umbilical cable wouldn't be long enough, using overhead train cables is the perfect solution. This EVA is customised for a railway battle.

Yep, but tactically, NERV never knows from where an angel can show up, so if that place has no railroads, what???.
But, OTOH, i can see some advantages of a wheeled unit in terms of stability and speed.

Mari's plug suit is as weird as her Eva. This is definitely not a NERV design imo...

Personally it seems kind of ridiculous (or at least ugly). The only thing that would make it more practical over the bipedal, humanoid legs is if it can anchor down onto the ground allowing the eva to use high power/ high recoil weaponry. I dont know how it can be faster than an eva running let along traversing over mountains or between buildings that we've already seen Evas will have to do.
It seems more suited for support from the rear line. |
