I keep thinking I'm outgrowing anime, and then a show like this comes along and sucks me right back in.

As for how it stands in relation to the original Lupin series, as far as I'm concerned (as someone who enjoyed the original series and all its movies/spin-offs), this is-by far-my favorite, and it's not even done yet.

I'm actually quite glad that Lupin has been largely sidelined. I always enjoyed the Lupin franchise, despite him, not because of him. But, opinions, you know?

Loved episode 7. It's been some years since there was an anime that had this type of verve when it comes to recent history. Heh.

Well that was a really good episode this week, dabbling in alt-history and placing the show's timeline firmly in the sixties.

I'm not sure I've ever seen an anime reference the 'doomsday clock' quite so well as this one with its play on the Cuban Revolution and the 1962 Missile Crisis.

Although I am a bit leery about air to air refuelling in a DC3...

I've come to realize that this whole story is simply full of anachronisms, and I either need to accept them or watch something else. In the first episode with "samurai boyfriend" (I can just imagine John Belushi in that role), the story seems set in early-1900's Europe, until the helicopters arrive. Now we're in an alternate-universe version of the Cuban Revolution where I can't figure out who the supposed good guys and bad guys are? In particular, which side is the US on here?

I'm still pretty mixed about this show. I like the adult cast and the overall tone, but the cardboard characters leave me unmoved. Shows like Black Lagoon and House of Five Leaves also depict criminals, but ones with a degree of self-awareness and introspection that's pretty much lacking in Mine Fujiko. I'll probably watch the remainder having come this far, but as is true of my following AKB0048, largely for the pure entertainment factor.

this ep is about "death day" & bit more on fujiko's past.

lupin looking at pics notice white hair guy.
fujiko steal a glowing plant tree.
jigen get order to go after "death day" guy while oscar make plans.
jigen meet "death day" guy but got trap by oscar.
then Monkey Delivery Service to the rescue for jigen.
lupin & jigen see that "death day" guy got connection fujiko.
yet "death day" guy meet owl.
lupin get "death day" guy to meet fujiko then oscar trap & jigen rescue.
"death day" guy mention bit of fujiko's past aka owl & count luis.
but trigger "death day" guy own death by electro-burn by fujiko.
yet all this something going on in fujiko.
another flashback show young fujiko get "attack" by owl person?!

Interesting that Lupin saved Jigen. So this weirdo in the mask raped Mine when she was a little girl. That guy has to be killed. Lol Mine teasing Lupin with what happened with Zenigata.

enter circus show to see painted lady til hood person attack & it was fujiko.
lupin & jigen find paint girl give her toy cause she treated as a living art person till fujiko all serious attack.
cause fujiko saw her on tv trigger another piece of her past being torture by owl people.
go on lift train then jump to another to drop fujiko.
jigen watch paint girl notice lupin is up to something while lupin look fujiko escape.
paint girl found by cops then fujiko tried to run them over jigen shoot & lupin catch paint girl.
shot the hotspring on lupin then gun got burn water.
stare down at hot zone if blast rocks fall yet lupin figure more on fujiko's doing & past.
fujiko grab mini gun shot self but it water so she left.
lupin & jigen cover up all the paint to give girl to buddha.
fujiko going "what" here goemon.

Interesting that Jigen and Lupin teamed up again. Lol Mine absolutely lost it this ep. Looks like Lupin knows about her past. Felt bad for that girl.

It's so good, Lupin in general, but the animation team is doing such a fantastic job.

The style, the direction, simply everything.
I am gonna cry because it is so good. Haven't enjoyed anime that well for a long time.

Too bad it's only for 13 episodes.

I'm a casual enough Lupin fan that my memory might be off, but has there ever been a Lupin incarnation as bleak as this? Characters attempting to blow their own brains out? It's fascinating stuff and it looks fantastic, but I remember Lupin being more, you know - fun.

The first series was quite serious, you know. I remember the episode with Pycal and another one, with Lupin waiting in prison for his execution.

quite the inception this ep.10

lupin found himself on operation table in a abandoned area.
flackback lupin owl person who want lupin to get fujiko.
zenigata & oscar arrive area for searching on info.
lupin sneak into owl people place also where zenigata want to meet the count owl.
cause all of this relate to drug island & also owl people been watching fujiko.
lupin try to shoot the count but it was faked then poof to lupin on operation table.
lupin wander meet a doctor cause he want lupin to save his "daughter".
cause of 13yrs ago lab was something happen yet "daughter" is fujiko.
more that fujiko was mix in experiment cause also why zenigata is search for clues on it.
lupin meet zenigata vs illusions fight then on the run yet illusions will hurt.
lupin escape from doctor then enter party world of young fujiko & bite is real.
lupin got owl blast then owl person shot self while zenigata now want both lupin & count.
yet all for the "experiment daughter" aka woman named fujiko.

Wow, very trippy episode! Don't know about the info dump, but it was a fun ride regardless. The music fits the series perfectly - moody, stylish and wry.

That was a fantastic episode, after the fairly disappointing episode 9.

As if the ED hadn't made it fairly clear, it's good to see that we're looking to get some real back story on Mine Fujiko's fucked up past. Though, I was previously assuming she was sexually abused/child prostitute. Interested to see what direction they're actually going to go.
