Episode 2:
Now that I got used to the comedy of this show a bit, I think it is funny. It mostly sets up for the rest of the episodes/season but I think the episode did a fair job with Ako's personality and the fact that she has trouble separating game and reality. I kinda felt bad for Nishimura and Segawa in class there LOL.

Now we're talking, the comedy in this episode was good for me, I enjoyed how everyone was dealing with Ako's delusions mixing the reality with the game, reminds me some people on WoW.
The good thing is how the anime is showing bit by bit how Ako is getting closer to the MC while the other girls are acting like supportive characters and I must say they are nice additions. |

Anyway, I loved Miss Piggy's reactions. She's starting to show just the slightest hint of dere it seems, not near the sort that will get you a romance, but she's certainly feeling a desire to open up and accept them, which is its own form of dere in my opinion. Watching Rusian tease her is rather fun. Everything he does chips away her tsun shell piece by tiny piece. Also, I rather doubt that Ako really would have loved Rusian regardless of his appearance. She claims that she'd decided she loved him whether he was old or young, male or female, or anything. But somehow I suspect if she'd seen a grade-schooler, or a thirty-year-old three-hundred-pound balding dude, she'd have passed out on the spot and probably immediately give up on reality completely. It's easy to say that you wouldn't mind someone being different from your ideal when the person sits perfectly within said ideal, because there's no challenge. The real challenge is when you find aspects of the other person that don't fit your image of them. That's where things start to move from crush to actual love, and Ako's nowhere near that right now. |

With the cat girl appearing again at the end of the episode I think she was lying about it when she told Rusian that she was in reality an older dude. With the OP showing the teacher and Segawa's friend as part of the group I'd say the likelihood is pretty high that she's one of those two.

The comedy is hilarious and the relationships between the 4 guildmates are very enjoyable to watch. It brings a tear to my eye that they're helping Ako with her problem of not being able to differentiate between game and real life because all the funny situations aside, that's still a very serious problem that can't simply be cured with meds or seeing a doc. Furthermore, I'm so happy that Schew-chan literally denied the harem route by outright rejecting him on the spot after Ako clinged to Rusian. Of course, it's still not impossible, but the likeliness has definitely decreased by a lot that I feel safe to say that this is an OTP kind of thing between the newly weds. Obviously the ED (which is rather lovely btw.) furthermore intensifies that bond between both Ako and Rusian. ぶひいいいいい (Buhiiiiii) (´・ω・`)
And kinda off-topic but I loved some of the JP comments on the episode because of certain random comments. People going like "I'm going to ride the AIS" or the "First Gedou, now Gendou".

I like this series so far. Decent comedy and Ako's situation really has some dark overtones. It's like Chuu2 in a way, with the main girl lacking a separation between fantasy and reality. I hope this actually has Ako developing and growing up and not regressing like Chuu2's second season did.

Comedy is so good, I am glad I picked up this show.
And that club... THAT CLUB MUST BE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR ANY MODERN SCHOOL TO HAVE!!! The beauty of LAN gaming... I loathe modern online games for ruining the sheer passion of being in the same room as your friends and playing LAN game together. ;_; |

Definitely a keeper with the themes and content.
Netoge did a very good job in term of balance. The whole talk about not being called by one's character hit home way too much in my case (which could be applied to skype/twitter/etc nickname): although it isn't really that easy to get accross the point why it is NG, the consensus is there... assuming the person in question doesn't mix up reality and game/internet. Speaking of which, I also appreciate they use Ako's issue as a comedy cathalyst, yet still play that side of hers in a serious fashion (be it the "doom" effect when she is distressed when she didn't get what Hideki and Akane were talking about or the simple lack of BGM when the latter realize how deep her problem was). Funnily enough, their discussion with Kyou gave some shade of grey in this situation. Whereas it is of course very unhealthy for Ako to mix up reality and game, her reason for loving "Rusian" is enough to transpose that love to Hideki on a whole. I personally think Ako is quite serious when she says she doesn't care about what the "player behind Rusian" would look like, simply because it is the way "Rusian" was, so it is somewhat part of the user she didn't know so far. While it would be great for Ako to stop interacting with them as if they were literally the LA characters, Hideki & co should also consider that she consider those characters are essential parts of the latter, even though this would be extremely problematic if she were to deal with people who use some false persona when playing game.

To me, Akane is conflicted because she built her school social image as a "riajuu" so she "shouldn't" tag along with netgame players, simply because geeks are pretty close to otaku: not exactly a fitting image for her.
Because of this, her "fake" aversion towards gamers pretty much got deep rooted even though she enjoys the said games. Akane didn't really show any embarassment when it comes to Hideki. Rather, when anything was related to her as the player Schwen, things are always haywire for her. That's also why she has trouble to admit she is interested in the club even though there is no outsider that would burst her. She also didn't have any weird reaction when it comes to Ako clinging on Hideki, nor any weird aggressivity when both are "lovey dovey" so to speak. She is pretty much acting as an "usual tsundere" because she doesn't want to admit that she is a full fledged gamer even though she still has that petty facade at school.

Really liking the chemistry within our main group so far. I hope it stays away from harem though. Love triangle is still okay, but please don't turn this into harem.

Speaking for Funimation's translations, I had an issue with translating Schwein's ore-sama and daze with "my bad self" and "out with it", urgh. I know these language-specific aspects are always hard to translate, but that really caused me to roll my eyes.

The comedy is pretty good and the interactions of the main cast are a real treat to watch.
Ako being able to tell the difference is both a source for comedy and a problem. It'll be fun to see how the group helps her. That Index reference.

Pardon my ignorance but what is a "tank" character? Someone who specializes in close fighting?
I think that if the series caused some doubt in which world view was correct, Ako's or the others', it would make for an awesome story line. Simply, what if Ako's view is correct? |

Ore-sama is far away from a my bad self, the most correct use would be This Great Me, or This Glorious Me. You know, someone with big ego like Sesshomaru from Inuyasha series. Yet people complains more about riajuu :/ |

Yep, there goes the main conflict of the story: changing Ako's lack of ability to distinguish the game world and reality. Kudos to the story for not taking her problem as some kind of thing to laugh at, because it is a real issue that real people face, especially nowadays.
I'm a bit unsurprised that they went to the "school club" approach to Ako's problem, but I guess it's the only way possible. Our resident guildmaster doesn't exactly have the riches to set up some rigs outside of school, and it is better integrated with Ako's school life, which will help in readjusting her to society. The best part of the episode is the beginning, where they talk about where their main priorities in-game. Ako focuses on her appearance. Rusian focuses on armor, inplying a more practical gamer. Damn, I forgot Schwein's priorities. Apricot's doesn't care much, because she compensates by putting her money on everything.

its a little sad that the reviewers on animenews had dismissed this as nothing more than your typical harem anime. heck they criticized the animation as below average. for me, the animation turned out to be much better than i had expected, i got no idea WTH those reviewers were talking about.
