Jigoku Shoujo.

It's about a girl who sends people to Hell.

*pffft*

Anyways, I'd have to recommend Higurashi/Umineko no Naku Koro ni. Both are total mindscrews, though.

^^ Judging from the OP's avatar, I assume he's seen Berserk and liked it.

Now and Then, Here and There (also known as Ima, Soko ni Iru Boku)- a dark take on a trapped in another world plot. Don't be fooled by the first episode, which makes the series look more light-hearted and action packed than it actually is. The series gets quite brutal and features as its main villain, one of the most disgusting villains in anime, being both an evil bastard, whose army is made up of child soldiers who he forced and manipulated into joining, and a total coward, so even viewers who tend to like villains for their 'coolness' or style won't like him either.

The characterization is quite good and it's hard not to feel sorry for many of the characters like Sara or Nabuca who have to endure some horrible events.

Okay, we like the same anime essentially. The 'good' series that we like are rare these days, you have to look at animes made between 1998-2005. It was like the golden age of dark, story driven anime.

Berserk - Amazing series and a new season/series is coming out in 2011

Claymore - a lot of violence, but it's the story that makes it good. Berserk-lite

Gungrave - Mafia + SciFi, looks pedestrian at first but it is a top notch anime.

Last Exile - not especially dark, but it is captivating. Steam-punk anime (has Ergo Proxy vibes to it)

Basilisk - Again, a much deeper anime than expected. Ninja scrolls + berserk, sort of

I definitely second Gungrave as recommendation. It's like The Godfather meet City of God meet John Woo's A Bullet In The Head. And the story unfold like a long journey through despair, vain hope to the fated final tragedy.

Mnemosyne no Musumetachi should be dark enough for you. It is action-packed, but isn't mindless at the same time; however, it does get slow at times... just sometimes.

Then there's also Shiki or Higurashi no naku koro ni, and definitely Kara no Kyoukai if you want "uneasiness". The list goes on, but I'm sure you can discover more from there

Btw, I'd pick FMA>Brotherhood, even though I like the latter's ending more lol

Thanks for all the suggestions. Been a while, but I just ended up watching FMA. Now for the anime I actually came here for.....I think it'll be Gungrave for now.
