Silencian, I'd suggest you at least skim through this massive topic, if you want to avoid reiterations of discussions that have been discussed to death.
I believe we already have recomended this. I even have made a big post trying to summarize everything important and recommending what to read. (don't know if he followed, however).
Haruki and Kyonko cuddled up in a blanket, I think he's referring to.
And no, I, at least, don't think that anything romantic/sexual would happen between the two of them. Shutting them in a log cabin in winter would not make much difference in their relationship.
Maybe after a couple weeks without rescue, but...
"What do you think we can do to keep warm, eh, Kyo- ARRGH, that was my NOSE, you crazy little-"
And now I'm kinda wanting to try writing that. Thanks. You'll never get around to it...

This is why their relationship can never advance unless both of them are either drunk or isolated on a desert island for a month. Or both.

Despite what popular culture may tell you, medical science has proven that using colored text does not automatically make you cool.
Anyway, lookie here!
Spoiler for September the Sixth, Day 5: Phone Call- The Glorious Weekend:
The Glorious Weekend
…No.
These headphones are, frankly, beginning to frighten me a little, and until I know more about what exactly they’re doing to me, I should stop listening to them.
Besides, who wants to just sit around and listen to music? It’s the weekend, the glorious weekend at last, and I should do something productive.
Of course, I say that, but I’ll probably just sit at home reading manga again.
…
I remember that I have to call someone. I’ll need to discuss the strange events of the past week, and I can bring up these headphones too. Something is obviously going on, and despite my misgivings about getting into bad situations, I have to get to the bottom of it.
…But I don’t want to spend too much time on the phone. Too much information on a weekend will kill my brain cells.
…Nor do I want to spend too much time getting my ear talked at until it falls off, so I probably shouldn’t call Koizumi. Of course, I’d hardly get any information at all if I called Nagato… or my ear would fall off from that, too. It seems to depend of the severity of the situation.
Ah! I could call Asahina-san! She did mention something about a temporal distortion occurring, didn’t she? Maybe she’ll know something. Hearing Asahina-san’s beautiful, melodic voice would be infinitely preferable to only having one ear for the rest of my life.
---
[IF Tanzaku=True THEN]
Of course, I could also call Haruhi… if I was a masochist, which, by the way, I am not.
---
…Hmm.
I’ve decided. I’ll call:
[CONFIRMATION POINT HERE]
1) Asahina-san… maybe she’ll know something.
2) Nagato… I can ask her what was really up the other day.
3) Koizumi… I get the feeling that if anyone know what’s going on, it’s him
[IF Tanzaku=True THEN]
4) Haruhi… wait, do I really want to subject myself to that?
Sweetest Voice- No Go
Asahina-san should know something about what’s going on… and her soothing tones, as always, make life worth living.
Didn’t I just say something like this? It doesn’t matter, I’ll just call her cell.
It rang for a long time, but finally…
Mikuru: Ah, er, um…
Kyon: Ah, hello, Asahina-san? It’s me, I was just—
Mikuru: Um, how do you use this thing… this button turns it… off…? And this one…
The echoing, faraway nature of her voice betrayed it as a recording. Curses, I got her answering machine.
Also.
Haruhi: Are you kidding? You don’t even know how to work a cellphone, Mikuru-chan?
Mikuru: Um, well, I—
Haruhi: Honestly, you’re such a technological idiot… give it here!
Mikuru: Ah!
Haruhi put on a strange falsetto, obviously trying to imitate Asahina-san.
Haruhi: Hi hi! Mikuru-chan here <3! I’m totally not able to come to the phone right now, so sorry~! Please leave a message! Bye~! …And that’s how you do it.
That doesn’t sound like Asahina-san at all!
Mikuru: T-t-that doesn’t sound like me at all!
My sentiments exactly.
Haruhi: What? I think it suits you! Come on, hurry up, we’re going to go buy yukata now, yukata!
Mikuru: Eh? But I think… It’s still recording…
Haruhi: Oh, really? Huh.
*click*
…
Well, that was a no-go. I guess I should call someone else…?
No, I don’t feel like bothering anymore. I feel like doing something ‘productive’ instead of wasting time on the phone. Maybe I’ll call again later.
…
…
…Those headphones, lying innocently on my bed, draw my attention like a black hole.
…Hmm.
Silent Voice- No Trust
Nagato obviously knows something, and she’s hiding it from me. If that intruder we were chasing on Thursday was one of her people, then… what does that mean?
…Besides, I’m still worried about her mental state, what with that ‘game’ she created… at my request. If she doesn’t want to tell me, I shouldn’t push her too far…
Her phone picks up, but there’s no response other than the faint sound of breathing.
Kyon: Hey, Nagato?
Breathing.
Kyon: I wanted to ask… uh, there’s been quite a few strange things going on the past week, don’t you think?
Breathing.
I don’t doubt that there’s more going on than what I’m going to ask her, but we’ll start with this.
Kyon: Specifically, that intruder we chased… he was another, um, Humanoid Interface, right?
Yuki: …Yes.
Kyon: What was he doing that made you want to take him down? …Why were we chasing him in the first place? …And why did you really need me?
Nothing happens by coincidence. It’s starting to become a motto of mine. If everything is interconnected, the dreams, the presences like ghosts, the temporal distortions, the transfer students, these headphones… this has to be one of the more important ones, just judging by the sheer amount of attention that Interface drew to himself.
And this is why I’m grilling Nagato. Dependable, yet fragile Nagato.
I’ll have to ask for your forgiveness later.
Yuki: …It was determined that one of the intruders would be a personal danger to you.
Kyon: So I’m being targeted again by— wait. One of the intruders?
I forgot she had mentioned that there were more than one… Now that she mentions it, he did seem to be carrying something… and Haruhi had said something about that too.
Who…?
Breathing.
Kyon: …Actually, I’ve been wondering. The name ‘intruders’… what are they intruding on?
Yuki: ……I cannot say.
Kyon: Cannot say?
Yuki: I have been ordered to restrict all transmission of such information.
…Ah. It’s something I’m clearly not allowed to know, then. Fair enough, if Nagato’s bosses don’t want her to tell me, then it probably isn’t that important to me.
Probably.
Kyon: What, you don’t trust me?
I was joking, but…
Breathing.
I got the feeling that Nagato was offended.
Kyon: Er, I was only—
Yuki: …They are intruders from another world.
Kyon: …Huh?
Yuki: They are intruders from a universe adjacent to our own. ...I was only attempting to protect you. Please do not misunderstand.
Something Nagato said, something that I dismissed as mere technobabble comes back to me.
“Data signatures are identical to those of both yours and mine.”
…I’m beginning to see what could be going on. But somehow, something tells me I shouldn’t pry further into this.
Kyon: Thanks for the help, Nagato.
Breathing.
Yuki: …Do not thank me.
I hang up.
…
…
I didn’t ask her about the headphones at all.
The Masquerade
Koizumi probably knows more about what’s going on than anyone… and he’s also the most likely to tell me.
The obvious choice, provided I don’t like my ears.
Koizumi’s cell rang twice before he picked up.
Itsuki: Hello?
Kyon: Hey, it’s me.
Itsuki: I know, I do read the call display. It’s rare to hear from you, what seems to be the trouble?
Kyon: Well, I just wanted to ask you about—
Itsuki: Say no more, I know just what’s wrong. …You’re lonely, aren’t you?
Kyon: Wh—?
Itsuki: You’re lonely, so you called up me so we could talk about our feelings. I understand, I understand. Go on, tell me all about it. You can trust me, after all.
Kyon: …You….
Itsuki: Hahahaha, I was just joking. By the way, it is very amusing trying to imagine the look on your face right now.
You should be thanking God that scientists haven’t yet found a way to deliver punches through the telephone lines.
Itsuki: So what did you really want to talk about?
Kyon: You must have noticed… there’s been some strange stuff going on the past week…
Itsuki: Oh? Strange things, you say?
I could almost hear his usual smug grin.
Itsuki: And how is that different from any other day?
Kyon: Yeah, yeah… I mean, really strange things… earlier on in the week, I kept feeling these… phantom presences… and there was this really… realistic dream I had…
Itsuki: Have you seen a doctor? I think they have a treatment for that these days.
Kyon: Funny. It’s not just that. … You may have not heard, but there was a rumor about some kind of superhuman running around the school last Thursday. I was actually one of the people chasing after it.
Itsuki: …The other was Nagato-san, I suppose?
Right on the mark.
Kyon: So, what do you think?
Itsuki: I think it’s nothing to worry about. Nagato-san dealt with that problem, I suppose?
Kyon: More or less…
Itsuki: And are you sure your phantoms are not just figments of your imagination?
Kyon: Well, no, not entirely…
Itsuki: Then why is there any cause for concern?
…He has a point… but there was something else, wasn’t there?
Kyon: Hold on… can I request something?
Itsuki: What would that be?
Kyon: Can you get me a list of all the students that transferred into our school this semester?
Itsuki: …Ah. I was worried about that.
Huh, I think I’ve found the weak point. Time to attack for massive damage!
Itsuki: …There’s no point in pretending I don’t know who you are referring to…Tell me, what did she say her name was?
He must be talking about the model-like girl I met, then.
Kyon: …Kitsuko Yamada.
Itsuki: …Excuse me a moment.
Muffled noises that sounded suspiciously like giggling echoed from my cell.
Itsuki: Sorry, had to deal with some business.
Kyon: …Right. Sure.
Itsuki: I don’t know why she’s hiding her name, but there’s, ah, no cause for alarm with her, either. She’s my cousin, and yes, she is a transfer student.
Kyon: …Your cousin?
Itsuki: Yes, my cousin, Itsuko Koizumi. Don’t we look related?
Now that he mentions it, I did get an impression like that… but isn't that a little too convenient?! And what's with that suspicious name?
Kyon: Sigh... and, of course, she’s also…
Itsuki: One of us, yes.
Kyon: Planning to get on Haruhi’s good side by find a new recruit for the SOS Brigade?
Itsuki: Well… we’ll have to see, won’t we? Anyway, all your misgivings and strange things you have noticed are now explained in a perfectly reasonable manner, am I not wrong?
Does he have to sound so suspicious? And why did he immediately assume I was talking about ‘Yamada’?
Kyon: I guess so, but… I’d still like to see that list of transfer students.
Itsuki: …Very well. I can have it prepared by Monday, if that’s all right with you.
It’ll give his people enough time to doctor the information, I’m betting. Still…
Kyon: Fair enough. See you on Monday, Koizumi.
Itsuki: Likewise.
Again, that sensation of hearing his smirk.
…What IS he hiding?
I hang up.
I didn’t mention the headphones at all.

…You know what? I don’t have to stand for this.
Kyon: Actually, never mind. I’ll get the answers to my questions elsewhere.
Itsuki: Are you sure? I hear talking to someone else is the most effective kind of therapy.
I hang up.
Maybe I’ll call Nagato later, but I don’t feel like bothering right now.
…
…
…Those headphones, lying innocently on my bed, draw my attention like a black hole.
…Hmm.
Indignant Voice- No Love
I’ll call Haruhi— wait, I don’t want to do that!
Too late. My finger already selected her name on speed dial.
Dammit! Now if I hang up she’s just going to call me back! Damn!
Her cell picks up almost instantly, as though she’d been waiting for a call all along.
Haruhi: Kyon, why are you of all people calling me? You’re really turning into a stalker, aren’t you?
Kyon: I’m sorry, the number you have dialed is—
Haruhi: Do you honestly think that’s going to work!? What do you want? I’m busy, I was just going to go out and look for weird stuff in town!
You’re wasting my time! Hurry up and get out with it! …In other words
Kyon: Uh.
Right, I was going to call someone and ask about the strange stuff that’s been going on last week, but… maybe I should just make up a reason why I called and get away quickly.
Ah! I’ve got it!
Kyon: …Do you do dream interpretation?
Haruhi: Not particularly, why? It’s not New Year’s, you know.
Kyon: So only New Year’s Dreams have any particular meaning?
Haruhi: Yeah, don’t you know? New Year’s Dreams are messages beamed in from space, foretelling the future to come.
That’s a unique way of putting it. As expected.
Kyon: So I shouldn’t put any stock into dreams I have that aren’t on New Year’s. Thanks, that solves everything.
Haruhi: Hold on. That can’t be the reason why you called me. Especially with the overly sappy things you were saying yesterday.
I’m not going to get away easily, it seems.
Kyon: Geh. Uh, I was wondering how you were doing after—
Haruhi: So you really are a stalker now, huh?
Kyon: What? I just…
Haruhi: Gotta go, Kyon. Later!
I heard her mutter "moron" as she hung up.
…
Gah, that was pointless.
Maybe I’ll call Nagato or Koizumi later, but after that, I really don’t feel like bothering right now.
…
…
…Those headphones, lying innocently on my bed, draw my attention like a black hole.
…Hmm.
Andohbytheway, can anyone research something for me?
I want to know if Japan has a last call return system (i.e. *69) and if they do, what number it is. Thanks.
From just quick perusal, it seems to be relatively exclusive to America (US and Canada), with a few exceptions (UK, France, Israel, Australia). Perhaps someone else can find otherwise, though.
Hey, nice scene Kaisos. I found that one particularly funny.

This don't seen right to me. The problem with Nagato is she gives too much information when starts talking, and it is hard to understand. Even if she stays quiet like in tha scene, Kyon usually just need to ask. It is more like too "information too hard to understand" then "no information at all".

Cute funny little scene. It really sound like Mikuru and Haruhi. Btw, this is the most useless of all phone call. It really fits Mikuru.
Just to be sure every time there is a "<3" it is suppose to be a heart on screen right?

I believe at last here she would answer. I know she have done something similar before, but it was in Banboo Leaf right? She haven't met Kyon yet by there. I not sure if Kyon have talked with her by phone in another ocasion and she had replied, tough.

Btw, that line is interesting. You can get Mikuru's route (and the Bad Ends) even after hearing that right? I wonder if you are going to change the plot a little to fit that.

Similar to Nagato's conversation, I wonder how this will effect Nagato's and Mikuru's Route. Well, it is not as big as Nagato's revelation. But shouldn't Kyon mention that having two cousins of the same age and so similar names is a bit weird? This actually happen in my family, and people comment on spot.
Also, I really like your Itsuki here. He seens pretty evil-ish

Hmmm, I never heard something like that here in Brazil, so I guess GDB might be right. But aren't they all using cell phones? Then wouldn't the number be stored anyway?
Despite what popular culture may tell you, medical science has proven that using colored text does not automatically make you cool.
I have no idea what you're talking about. Just having a little fun is all...
At any rate, I loved the Koizumi conversation(s), and the thought of Kyon accidentally calling Haruhi when he tries to get ahold of someone about something mysterious is always funny.

She either says very little or says more than he can handle. I think that's what Kaisos was trying to get at.

I really don't know. Something about the line seems off, but it isn't the part you highlighted... maybe I'm just thinking too much...

Yeah, I understand that. Still, "don't get any information at all" sounds wrong. She does give a lot of information. Many times. "Hardly would get any information" would be more appropriate then.

Nice write-up, Kaisos! The only thing I can comment about is wouldn't Kyon make more of a scene when Itsuki said that Itsuko was his cousin?
As Heatth suggests, I would think that Kyon would be more skeptical of Itsuki's pronouncement and perhaps say something along the line of "how convenient" or something like that.
Hey now, I think she'd have the basic knowledge of how a phone conversation works by this point.

Telling Haruhi that might be a bad idea, actually. She'd probably get offended in some way, and then there would be punishment on Monday.
Placating her is always the best idea.
It's like having a time bomb duct-taped to your hands, except that instead of being timed, it explodes whenever you so much as look at another time bomb in a sexual manner, whenever you deflate its ego, or whenever you don't listen to its inane commands.
I think the analogy fell apart somewhere in there, but I'm too lazy to check.

I copied this from someone else, hence the quote tags.
And now I'll get right on with I'm done reading the rest.
Not once is it even so much as implied in Volume 7 that Nagato was nodding in response during that phone call. Not. Once.

I don't have the patience to read over 1000 pages to avoid repeating a topic. Despite having the time, I don't have the patience. So, I'm not likely to do that.
