This was a nice episode which is leading to another battle and this time a real one for Marika to face? I missed Chiaki, but from the previews were are going to see some Marika x Chiaki stuff. I wonder how the princess will react to that?
Why did Marika freaked out and blushed when her mom told her if she wanted Gruelle to come over? Also are we seeing her soon? http://starchild.fm/post/en/328/Grunhilde+Serenity.html |

It is funny that recent anime princesses all (both?) seem to have long braids, but that just makes sure we can recognize them as princesses, lol.
In any case, this show is not good because of any particular originality, but because it runs some standard memes so well. Not a world-beater, but nevertheless a good show.

Hmmmm. Interesting episode....
More and more I feel like Misa isn't really serving as the Ship's Surgeon, but more like the Executive Officer. Not that there's anything wrong with that, as Glen Cook demonstrated with Croaker and the Black Company. As for Gruelle, if you listen carefully, that sounds a lot closer to the pronounciation of the name as spoken by the cast, so let's go with that. Looking at the uniform of her illegitimate sister on the website, it strongly reminds me of the old school British Army/Marines uniform. I think I'll stick to the practicality of modern uniforms... Also, I am slightly disappointed by the lack of Chiaki. ANd the Princess is sparkly and making Marika blush. Fight, Chiaki-chan! Don't let Marika be stolen away! Jokes aside, I have heard that the director went on the record as stating that there would be no yuri romance in this show, being that he explicitly wanted to focus on friendship and camaraderie. *shrug* Well, he did allow that if the relationship progressed organically...

Jenny would probably be Neptune to Lynn's Uranus. Lynn does have the same "butch" look as Uranus after all. I do wonder if Jenny will feel the moe power of the Moon in the next episode though, seeing that smitten face in her in the preview. And someone on Random Curiosity posted some small spoilers for the next episode, and it sounds like next episode is going to be awesome. Although Jenny being there already makes it awesome for me. |

Closest equivalent (The Ditz...though seemingly a act in marika's case), since she's not as "talented" (or tall) as Jupiter.
(Jenny is the one can could pull of Venus in looks)

On the whole subject of yuri and pairings, I'll simply add my interpretation of the reason Marika wants to be a mountain to stand beside Ririka: If they are equals, she can get Ririka to see her as a woman, and thus pursue an incestuous yuri relationship.
Okay, obligatory incest yay shipping from my part aside, like I said, interesting episode. Judging from how the Corback and Talbot classes are designated it looks like they're folllowing the IJN/JMSDF nomeculture. That said, five ships - capital ship with 4 escorts - is a reasonable size for a task group (historical note: during the Cold War, the US Navy used to maintain Surface Action Groups based around an Iowa-class battleship, which used the similar composition to the hostiles we're seeing here). Bentenmaru being used for the intercept also reinforces Misa's lecture in Sailing 6 - that legally, privateers are military reservists who augment the military forces of their system. Well, can't wait for Sailing 9. It'll be interesting to see how Bentenmaru goes up against that task force. It's not like this is Battlestations: Pacific, where a DD could solo BBs thanks to torps and wild manuvering ^^;;

Ben10maru has Veteran Crew, Battleship Gun Mastery, ?High Agility. May be far more likely than you'd think. Though I'd expect it to turn out something like how the Silvius went up against an entire Ades fleet. Got a bloody nose, but bashed the balls of the enemy in.

Well, Bentenmaru was considered to be more than a match for three Corbacks, so I doubt one more would have significantly shifted the balance. It's that Talbot class that's the unknown factor.
However, I don't think we're going to be in for a major naval battle. Frankly, I'm expecting the pursuit to be intimidated into giving up, one way or another, possibly through fear of causing a diplomatic incident. Why? Because there are no scenes of space combat at all in the preview, and there are scenes of the Princess holding what has to be the data she sent for from Serenity. So we know Bentenmaru gets what the damaged Corback was carrying for the Princess, and we know that a major portion of the episode is not taken up by a battle (unless they've specifically arranged the preview to avoid showing those details, and I can't imagine they'd want to do that because a good battle would be a useful hook for numerous people). Thus, I conclude that there won't be much (if any) fighting at all. |
