I'll grant that Hayate isn't totally out of the question. It just doesn't seem that likely.

While Maria's not showing that she is in love with him, it can change in the future(unlike Hayate-Nagi pairing, there he clearly only treats her like a kid).
If Nagi does want to have a chance, she'd have to send him away for a couple years, to completely change her image in his eyes.

Actually, the change from kid to lover is disturbingly common in anime. More so than the "acquaintance" for a while, and it develops into love. The fact that there was no real spark between Maria and Hayate early on makes it likely for them to be stuck firmly in the "friend" zone. It'd be different if Hayate had followed up on his early attraction to her and pursued her, but as it is...

I'll stand by my claim that she has no _romantic_ interest in Hayate and never will. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that she doesn't care about him at all, just that he's not a potential partner for her. Yes, she is conscious of him being a man - which proves nothing. She is far too dedicated to Nagi to ever consider a relationship with Hayate. As for probabilities, Hayate already has a crush on her, like Anh_Minh said, so that's a moot point.

Either way, I don't see any kind of romantic resolution for this show. It's just not that kind of series. It's more of a comedy with subtle romantic undertones that never go anywhere. The most I'd expect is Hayate redoubling his dedication to serve Nagi ^_^;

It's not really clear yet in the anime where the romance stands for anyone else other than Nagi, but speaking accordingly to the manga...

Maria has those awkward and heartwarming moments with Hayate. The point being, however, that she hasn't been too much in the spotlight as a main character isn't helping the theory of a Hayate x Maria romance-as much as I desire to see it-but currently, I don't see much spark between Hayate and Nagi either. Considering all possibilities, Hinagiku seems more likely.

As for Maria, she knows better than to fall for Hayate. She's more the onee-san character that looks on benevolently on the rest of the cast.

I would say it's more like respect than crush imo. Of course, he does find Maria very pretty obviously.

Maria does know not to fall for Hayate but knowing won't stop anyone from falling in love would it?

It's quite obvious in the manga that Hayate has a crush on Maria. At least that was my impression. I've been known to draw up random conjectures before Of course, the anime does not necessarily have to follow that route.

Not too sure about that. Remember when Isumi was talking to Nagi about having a crush on Hayate? She said something to the effect of, "It's a good thing that it was I who had fallen for Hayate and not someone closer?"

At least, I think she said that somewhere, and I can't really think of anyone closer to Nagi than Maria.

maria right now doesnt have much interest in hayate as a man...but you never know what the future brings but i still find the chances of a proper relationship development lot (however much i want it to happen :3) ~ the below quote is one of the feelings that im getting about what will happen in a later date ~

By the way, the Amazon listing for the first DVD mentions that there'll be 13 DVDs in all, and since each DVD contains 4 episodes, that means the show is slated for about 52 episodes in all. That pretty much confirms what everyone was saying early on about this time slot and production company suggesting a long run. So just an FYI.

as for now im just drooling over isumi's fanservice scene :3

another highlight of the ep was seeing nagi trying to give hayate a kiss...theres her dere dere mode but then comes the tsun tsun mode poor hayate >.<

I wonder how they're going to fill 52 episodes when they're cutting out all of Maria's parts?!
Episode 1 was already half of volume 1 of the manga.
Most of volume 1 and 2 is already animated and parts of volume 4 too.

But I actually like the pacing of the anime.
