ok so finished the anime up recently. I spent several hours going through the last few episode discussion here, i really dont want to go through almost 50 pages here as well o_O I skimmed the last few pages and heard that roan gave some summaries of the ending which i did a search for and read through. Im not sure on spoiler policy in this thread so i'll just tag it all

Spoiler for anime/novel ending:

The worst part of the anime to me was the ending.. it had a 1 year gap which utterly killed the mood and made no sense. Why the hell would they be appart for so long? it was crazy and really kinda brought down my enjoyment. I have a questions hopefully someone can answer

1) My understanding is in the novel its only about 2 months, is that correct? that would make a lot more sense.

2) Looking at the ending description i guess theres a 2 month gap after she disapears here then she just shows up at the start of the new school year? is that right? The thing is im curiuos how they wrap it up after that. Do they admit they love eachother? Or is it just like 'oh hey whats up'? The anime ending was kinda flat and im wondering what they said to eachother at the end here.

3) in the anime theres a very passionate kiss scene at the grandparents house that gets very hot and heavy (one of the best kiss scenes ive ever seen in an anime) The camera just kinda pans away... and im not sure what happens lol. Its kinda implied they made love but im not sure. Is it any clearer in the novel? is that scene even there? I only saw refrence to something about a 'futon scene'

hopefully someone can clear that up, this was a pretty damn good series.

i'd like to know it too. i also don't get what Taiga said to Kitamura in New Year's Eve. maybe i can guess it, but i'd just like to know if in the nove explains it better than the anime.

This, a lot of this.

And for the work they're doing on 10. It's only got one chapter to go.

Even though I was very late in noticing, I'm glad I was finally able to read 7, 8, and 9. If the past is in clue to the future, maybe it'll only be a few weeks until I can read 10, too.

I totally agree with you. The anime ending was vague and it made it seem like everything they did was perfectly naive. The year gap was also pretty annoying. I really hate how the anime didn't complement the novel's ending the right way. Everything was perfect until the rushed ending, it lacked the feelings that were supposed to be conveyed.

Yes, Taiga left during the beginning/middle of her last semester in her second year of highschool. She came back at the beginning of the third year. So I'd say its about 2-3 months considering that japanese breaks are short.

Unlike the anime, Ryuuji and Taiga conveyed their emotions perfectly to each other multiple times in the novel. When Taiga came back, Ryuuji bumped into her on his way to the school entrance ceremony and they started behaving like they usually do(Though Ryuuji immediately embraced her after she started yelling). I think this is a better ending because it shows that their relationship hasn't changed regardless of the time they spent apart. Btw, after the bump, the author repeated the qoute that she said at the first of the story.

I was really surprised when I read the previous posts to see that people are seriously considering that they had sex. I really don't think that the author tried to imply that they had sex in any way at all. For many reasons:
1- Yasuko was going to sleep in the room with Ryuuji, Taiga was only in the neighboring room. So I really doubt that they had the nerve to have sex when Yasuko could was in at anytime, or even his grandparents. (Other two reasons are less logical)
2- Toradora! is such an innocent story! :P
3- Personally, I don't think that humble Ryuuji and Taiga have the balls to do it yet lol. It's not USA!

Futon Scene Clarification:

Spoiler for Futon Scene:

The futon scene was that Taiga sat on Ryuuji to try and suffocate him (He was pretending to be asleep, and suddenly woke up. So Taiga suffocated him with the excuse of 'Asleep people can't move'.) Then, while suffocating him, she told Ryuuji that she really really really (repeated many times) loves him. Followed by a kiss. Then there was some narration which is why I suppose people think that was an implied sex scene. Then they say that they should go to sleep. Ryuuji thought 'As if I possibly could' and repeated it again.

I thought the anime was awesome but boy was the novel amazing. It almost gave me a heart attack dammit! Best thing I have ever read. Better than any anime/novel/manga I have ever enjoyed. I still wish the anime was given a better ending.

Spoiler for Annoying bits about anime ending.:

The running away only seemed stupid. Taiga going back to her mom was kinda annoying. Everything had a vague reason that wasn't explained clearly. I'm glad that the novel was able to give me my peace of mind on the ending. It is finally fully translated!!

Do you think there will be more novels? the spin off novels are important to the main plot?

To go with the manga publication, Seven Seas has licensed the Toradora! light novel series for a 2018 release.
