Another important aspect is the constant blinking in their right eye, maybe should have altered their temporal and occipital lobe.

Nothing in this episode bothered me more than Mamoru. This guy displays all the signs of someone who would be removed from their society, and yet here he is, freaking out as usual. Ever see the ending of the movie Cube? That's the scenario at work here.

But as long as things are normal, he is okay. He doesn't lose control of his powers and his powers are strong enough to have merit. If anything he is ideal.

No, if anything, Saki would be ideal. She's been exposed to several harsh truths and is able to cope with them. All the Ethics Committee has to do has get her on their side.

Mamoru would crack under the pressure. If he doesn't lose control of his powers, he can still lose control of his emotions and run away in panic.

There is also nothing that indicates his powers are "strong enough to have merit". The only "merit" the adults are looking for is control.

You're right. Honestly, I found it surprising how these kids could survive (and largely in peace) for so long in spite of what happened during The Queerat War Adventure (i.e. "Summer Camp").

I seriously have to wonder if Satoru (and, by extension, his closest friends) have a bit of a privileged status due to Satoru's grandmother being head of the Ethics Committee.

With Shun, perhaps they gave him every last chance before he was just too far gone. With Saki, they were willing to overlook her arguably dangerous degrees of inquisitiveness, and with Mamoru they were willing to overlook his emotional fragility as long as he doesn't cause too many problems.

He's ideal for keeping in the dark, but that doesn't mean he's ideal for being an adult in this world. Like ogon_bat wrote, adults in this world likely have to HELP with the charade. I have serious doubts that Mamoru could do that.

I agree. It's interesting that it isn't until just after Mamoru leaves that the adults appear and escort the other three away. And it's not like they couldn't have taken Mamoru even after he left, but they specifically chose to exclude him from this meeting. Also telling is that after Saki discovers Ryou has been "planted" as the new Shu and they decide to go on their trip, he's never shown or mentioned again.

That's my guess as well now that they have survied to reached adulthood and are already up to speed how things really work The Ethics Committee wants to welcome them into the secret cricle.

Maybe Satoru had always been destined to becone a member of The Ethics Committee is true and was the only reason the rest of group 1 had been spared yet watched for so long.

Was he? I thought there was a no dialogue scene where we see Ryou pair up with another girl in class.

Considering how many children are lost on the way, why would you think they would be so eager to kill off more?

the yuri scene really pissed me off its seemed out of place and highly unnecessary. It pissed me off to the point that im not even that excited to watch the next episode. They cant have everything in this show, 'real' love relationships and 'lesbian' love relationships and 'homo' love relationships. They HAVE to tone it down no matter what the original novel says. Why did they try to sell shunxsaki pair so hard only to show saki maria tongue action later? what are they trying to make the audience think? 'everyone loves everybody'?? sorry but i am unable to buy that. If they are so different 'creatures' from humans in the future why not make them the shape of queer rats?

So its like oh saki loves shun *heart* but saki and maria due to the bonobono society are doing it..oh ok ill try to understand but Hey they are STILL doing it oh no wait wait
they are again and again doing it??? wth? it gets hard to digest at this point since only last episode shunxsaki were literally dying for each other. Just think about it!!

Thanks for opening that. Actually that bother me a little bit regarding Saki's intentions for the "kissing thing"...

Let it put it this way...

Argument 1: Is Saki jealous when she saw Shun and Satoru kissing? Did she just used Maria as instrument to divert her pain? What is her feelings for Maria back then?

Argument 2: She nearly confessed to Shun twice... first is before he disappears and before he dies. I'm becoming to question Saki's feelings for Shun because of that kiss... What does that kiss mean? Does she have to do that with Maria every now and them?

Argument 3: Hypocrasy (Sorry for the spelling)... Remember Saki said "We are not monkeys.." back in episode 5. Does she really know what she was saying..? Look she says that and then by then she and Maria kisses each other... although Maria seemed to have chosen Mamoru as her MATE. Don't tell us this will continue after they have families.. C'mon you too.. it has to stop..

Note: Many says Maria is a lesbian. I'm not against that. What concern me is Saki. Is she bi? What does love really meant for her? The last kissing scene obviously for me, is Saki starting it...

Now I want to ask Saki this... Who is Shun to you? Who is Maria for you? What do you think Mamoru will think of this? Will you continue this habit of yours until you find your MATE...?

P.S. If my post belongs to the SSY: Speculation Thread.. which I have doubts.. please correct me... Thank you.

Do I think Saki and company would be okay with doing that? Obviously No.

The current members of The Ethics Committee however may think otherwise.

@Genji You are SO right. In the previous episode she CLEARLY says "we are not monkeys" but later she acts like a pretty efed up monkey herself.

At first they showed it as 'saki being so helpless and sad she turns to maria just to get even with what shun is doing' but now it seems like she's pretty into it and shun is out of the picture and she doesnt show interest in any other guy! its a VERY BIG FAIL if saki was not really in love with shun 100% its exactly what this episode shows. After this episode i think its setting the tone that saki wont have a shun like relationship and the focus will be more on the ethics committee politics.

So when its bonobonos society and same sex relationships are encouraged we see so many couples in action. But when they have male/female pairs they are just 'standing next to each other' lol give me an example of ONE male/female kiss in this show! NOT EVEN ONE? i thought they were 'bonobonos'?? if kissing is oh so normal and just an excuse to let frustration out why didnt they show satoru getting one? when its same sex its all wild bonobono and when opposite sex bonobonos become proper humans? LOL and lol extremelly hypocritical.

Honestly this episode really dissapointed me. Im confused about their relationships. The show will be further ruined if the producers keep pulling these cheap yuri shots with the 'hey bonobono action' excuse

The yuri kiss on episode 8 and in the start of episode 11 is acceptable (Did she blushed?).... but the last kiss is kinda forced.... I don't think it was necessary... like do they have to kiss whenever their faces get too close?

It makes sense that the Ethics Committee tried to replace Shun with Ryou in the kids' memories. With Reiko there was no need to do that because they didn't know her very well but Shun was a dear friend with whom they shared almost every day of the last two years. Deleting every memory with Shun would have meant removing a good chunk of their brains.
I fear that Mamoru betrayed them to the Committee. The fact that he wasn't called is highly suspicious.

I haven't read the novel but I think that the anime is doing a poor job in explaining the sexual habits of the PKs. Until last week there were only gay couples in school and now they are choosing their (hetero) soulmate?
BTW I don't think that Saki/Satoru and Maria/Mamoru are a couple now. It's just that they had to choose a different-sex partner and they went with their best friend.

From what I can gather...

1) Adolescents in this society are expected to have a same-sex lover or lovers. Relationships are generally monogamous, but don't necessarily last for the entire duration of adolescence (we see this by how Satoru found a new lover after Shun dumped him). However, these same-sex relationships can last for the entire duration of adolescence (which seems to be the case with Saki and Maria; there's not even the slightest suggestion of either girl being in a sexual relationship with any girl other than each other).

2) Once adolescents reach a certain age, they're expected to pick an opposite-sex life partner for their adult lives.

I have to admit, this seems pretty weird to me. I mean, I could get hippie-esque "Free Love", but this is much more structured and specific than that. It's very transitional in nature. In fact, it reminds me of the old idea of girls having "play romances" with each other to prepare for "real" romances with guys (I've heard this idea being the basis for some shoujo-ai and yuri narratives).

I'm honestly surprised with how cool Maria is with this. Maria clearly loves Saki a lot, while Maria's feelings for Mamoru seems to simply be a mixture of lukewarm friendship with sympathy that borders on outright pity. Maria clearly cares about Mamoru, but there's no question in my mind that the person she feels the most passionate love and affection for is Saki.
