An enjoyable first episode - I like Hikari already - a kind, yet intense and focused young girl who is ... an athlete sort, it seems. Or perhaps a diamond in the rough that needs polishing? The OP sequence was pretty good, while the ED wasn't bad. Am already interested to meet the members Hikari s being assigned to.

That was fun, we got introduction of the main characters and the Strike Witches of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing.
There's some fan service (hello baths) and I do expect pacing to pick up from here. Hikari is cute, I like her already and she is quite a determined girl to prove herself to others. The battle designs looks fine for this as well. Decent start.

I know some people have been wondering - adamant even - that Hikari is going to be a Yoshika clone fitting the same genki girl mold. While yes, Hikari is a rather spirited girl whose stamina is her main strength, her character arc is very much different from Yoshika's. For one, Hikari has to wrestle not being quite a magical powerhouse who in fact struggles with her magic being quite weak, and while she does love her older sister Takami dearly, it's clear that being in the shadow of an excellent (in more ways than one
 ) elder sibling whom everyone tries to compare her to is getting to her in some capacity. Also, while Yoshika is a pacifistic civilian, Hikari is very much eager to serve, and already undergoing Witch training, the latter which is quite refreshing to see as it shows that most witches aren't Yoshika-level prodigies. I actually like this episode out of all the first episodes in the Witches series, having a nice blend of character and action, and it's nice that the episode was self-contained and didn't end in a cliffhanger. Also, the sisterly love is very strong in this one, which is very, very nice Finally, for some reason the episode had a cameo by Luigi of all things

Aw, the narrator in the beginning sounds less epic than the narrator from previous seasons. Not hammy enough.
 Hmmm... so as opposed to Miyafuji who had stupidly huge amounts of power that she just didn't know how to use efficiently, Hikari seems to be relatively weak magically speaking, and instead focused on her physical ability. No real opportunity to meet the rest of the Brave Witches yet, but since it appears HIkari's journey is going to be interrupted by the traditional Neuroi attack that interrupts every attempt to get to a new station, we'll probably meet them near the end of the next episode as they rescue her and her sister after the two of them have spent their time holding the thing off by themselves.

Also, something of note here I forgot to mention: While there is unavoidable fanservice in this series (sisterly love in the baths
), it looks like they've toned down on the pantyshot fanservice inflight by a lot. Even in the OP, the most you'll see is Hikari's bloomers, and only for a split second at most and at a respectable distance, with none of the panties-in-your-face shots that previous entries have become quite infamous for. Well technically, while they do at times still use the same angles that would normally show pantyshots, this time they go by so fast that you don't even notice it happening, unlike with previous series where they take their sweet time showing you the girl's underwear in all their glory. It actually makes me hope that Brave Witches will be more story-focused rather than just becoming a fanservice vessel.

So this series is in the same time or parallel to strike witches?, It was a good chapter but I'm surprise that hikari doesn't hate or have some resentment to her sister, you know the setting... perfect sibling all that and she just her shadow or something, but oh well we can't have that with the protagonist eh?

I like Hikari less than Yoshika. She reminds me to much of Hibiki from Symphogear and tons off shounen protags. Not my type.
But overall I like that they decided to make something different but with the same air as previous parts of the franchise. Will definitely watch it.
