I myself haven't had the chance to play the original: were the iron sights implemented in the original?

No, no iron sights were in Half-Life 1, but magnum and crossbow had a zoom function.

Thanks for clearing that up.

It was released on the 14th: you should be able to pick up a copy right now if you felt so inclined. The install files are around 3 GB, and will require around 8 GB of hard drive space to run. You'll also need the Source SDK Base 2007 to run it.

Some hiccups and bugs, and the load times are a little funky at times (someone told me that this is a Source thing), but otherwise an amazing re-imagining/remastering of one of the premier classic game titles. I would have gladly paid money for this.

Can't wait to see how the Xen levels have been redesigned.

I still hate the controls on the ladders. Other then that been attached to my screen trying to complete it all today. Still not finished, I am pretty slow

Do you mean like how you get stuck on them, hit spacebar, fall and then lose a fair bit of health? I've died numerous times from that.

Ladders. Ladders and explosives. I think those caused more deaths than insta-headshot marines.

Yup, so frustrating. It just one of those really easy things like climbing a ladder that can ruin the gameplay for that part. Like against the tank and the 10 or so marines, I poke my head out take a look around decide to go back down, but no I instead launch myself out and die. Makes me rage.

There was this one part where there were so many explosives that even god mode was insufficient to survive because triggering them led to a scripted game over. That was insanely frustrating
