Lily Hoshino(Otome Yokai Zakuro, Mawaru Penguindrum) thought the final episode of Nichijou was wonderful. Though she brought all the limited-edition BDs, she still feel a little sad to see it end.

I think Nichijou was one of the best efforts from Kyoani but...

Personally I think that the lack of commercial success was due to wrong target audience. I hope that the rerun(?) at the new time slot will boost the series image. But then again I am viewing it from western eye, so who knows.

I grew up with things like Monty Python, the Marx Brothers, Mel Brooks, the Three Stooges, and older Western cartoons (Looney Toon, tom and Jerry, "Mouse and Squirrel", those sorts of things). Nichijou appeals to me on those levels mixed with the more recent anime comedies like Minami-ke and Lucky Star. So it all comes down to taste I guess. Mine might be aweful, but I cannot prove that.
I imaging sales might go up at the halfway point due to the changes that take place at that point in the show. Not just Nano going to school and the OP change, but also the pacing change. The stories and jokes got a lot more interconnected at that point. There was also a lot less down time.

It's disappointing that this didn't do well. Frequently (especially in early episodes), I would classify this series as more "strange" than "funny", but I really appreciated seeing something so much different than expected. Ironically, though the last several episodes were "better", I missed the confusing nature of the initial parts of the show.
That being said, it's not like I bought/imported the Blu-Ray DVDs either, as I have done with most other Kyoto Animation shows and might have considered doing if the show wasn't on Crunchyroll. |

Well, KyoAni didn't seem deterred by the disappointing sales and that's a testimony to their temperament. They even invested more into the show by buying up the primetime slot. I can only hope it does better there, there is no reason it shouldn't.

*Sigh* It's Sunday but there is no new Nichijou.
I'm really missing the show. Especially their constant use of random English like: Jass Moment Preeze, OH! slipstream and Death or Die! ^u^ Last edited by inisipis; 2011-10-04 at 18:19. |
