Her best work, in my view is going to be tied between My-HiME and Kara no Kyoukai. In the first instance, you've got a lot more musical variety than what she offers up nowadays (one of the few instances where you get bits of light-hearted music from her here and there). With KnK, its atmosphere is extremely absorbing, showcasing much breadth from awesome battle themes to great character themes.
Saw her in concert last year at Anime Expo and was quite pleased with her offerings.

All the news that Kajiura and Spacecraft have parted ways in recent months have just proven true
https://twitter.com/Fion0806/status/966190960135868416 https://twitter.com/Fion0806/status/966191160569073664 https://twitter.com/Fion0806/status/966191546965078016 http://news.livedoor.com/article/detail/14332881/ Kalafina may have to continue without Kajiura's compositions then, unless a new accord can be made.

ANN coverage article on the departure and on Kalafina's status.
Kajiura's music was one of the original reasons I started watching a lot of anime instead of sticking to manga only, but I can't help but notice that the last few years haven't really seen anything very unique appear (not that it means the music is bad). I wonder if this is the cause of the dispute, as well as why the company allowed a new manager to cause Kajiura's departure. It looks like FictionJunction is over and done with, although Kajiura can just collaborate with artists independently, but if Kalafina survives without Kajiura, it'll be interesting to see what direction it will take after this. It'll also be interesting to see what projects Kajiura takes up next. |
