Direction is actually something that this series handles a lot better than Index did. Even this seemingly meaningless introductory episode contains quite a bit of foreshadowing for the first major arc, if you know what to look for.

I might be nitpicking, but Saten is phononymic to Kill Heaven. Even more foreshadowing perhaps?

Why are we watching the day to day life of this side character? What does she do that's so important that it deserves her own separate series? I won't write it off quite yet but.... meh.
It's only been the first episode.
While there is a large slice-of-life factor, there are still arc-driven stories.

If I was her, I would have blown that car up into smithereens.

Is it just me, or did Kuroko's VA change? It really lowered my enjoyment of this episode. Beside that, it was pretty good first episode. Hope its a bit better than the first season.

So Touma is not going to show up at all this season?

Those coins of hers are launched at 1030 meters per second. I'm amazed it didn't rip the car in half.

It's just you.

According to all sources it's the same voice actress.

According to manga readers he'll show up soon enough. He's just nowhere near as important a character.

Anyway. I haven't watched Index because it received generally mediocre reactions in the places I frequent, but I found the first episode of Railgun to be interesting and fun. It works well for me thus far. Judging from that OP/ED/whatever thing the drama's going to spike a bit as we go along, so I'll have to see if I still like it as much when the girls have a real chance of dying.

Anyway. A good start for the uninitiated.

Ok, completely saw the episode, great recited version of the manga bit. Good pacing, and I loved Misaka's reaction at the end.

Is it me, or does Uiharu look cuter in the anime than the manga?

I love the opening song! (Right now it's repeating on my speakers for the last hour or so)

Railgun scene was cool.
It's a bit sad that this is the best (current) anime (In terms of animation) I'm watching right now... (Totally beats out Umineko...) Which studio does this one again? I watched some of Shana, but got bored...

8 for me. I save my high scores for the really good scenes.

I think the coin was aimed at and hit the ground?

When I think railgun, this other person keeps popping up.

I wonder who has the stronger railgun?

If you're talking about what I think, I believe that problem was concluded in volume 2. After that we went into more arcs, although Railgun does focus and put more development on a certain part of the Index anime. (even Index-watching non-Railgun readers should know what I mean) But then again, that's only expected (and should be required) of a series focusing on Mikoto after all.

Errr... Mikoto is NOT a side character, she is one of the main heroines of To Aru Majutsu no Index.

Well, it was pretty much how I remebered it in the manga, so that's a good point.

To bad this side story is timeline wise more or less back to square one and so is the Mikoto x Touma development. Damn she was cute blushing around Touma in Index.

And that part is where the main line of Railgun lies, though I don't know if that changed after chapter 23... it's been very quiet on the manga front lately, and I haven't been able to find any raws after 23.

...

Perhaps we should carry this over to the manga thread though, before we start posting any spoilers.

Agreed, since I don't think we can be on the same page unless we speak spoilers, because the thing I'm talking about has been solved and done.

Decent first episode.

Mixed feelings are bouncing around though... but I also liked the first Index episode and it had some highs and some pretty damn bad lows.

Anyway... no matter what ビリビリ will always be win
