It's hard to say, but he is the father, right? Meaning he either already knocked her up or he's going to show up again despite saying he won't. Hard to tell which, since we don't know how much time has passed. I'm kind of leaning towards the former, though.

Good thing Manabu made the decision to not associate himself with his father anymore. I would do the same if I was confronted with someone so rotten.

And Reina proves why she is the best part of this series once again

"I think they've learned their lesson"

"......."

*punch*

I have to say I've quite liked reading this part of the story, it's odd seeing such dramatic plot in a 4-koma but this has been a oddly nice read for some reason.
I too am glad Manabu has decided this and hope to god he sticks with it, all too often this is said but in the end they turn on it which I've always hated.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this. Manabu's jackass dad left his wife for....His SISTER!?!?

Really? REALLY!?!?!? WHAT?

Manabu, you don't use a fist for that. You use a sledge hammer.

Whoa, this manga. Seriously this manga. Once again I have to ask is this a romcom 4koma manga? How can it has such dramatic story like this

I don't know why, but I don't hate his father that much but I agree what he did to Manabu and his mother (or his family in general) was too much. It's always fun to see Manabu lose his cool though

I seriously did not expect that. I mean, even if you try to view it through the "forbidden love" filter, Manabu's father just doesn't do anything to make him come across as sympathetic.

Manabu, just go back to staying away from your family altogether aside from your sister and your grandfather. Really, you're better off without any of the rest of those people, I think.

I agree with the first part, but deny the second.

I mean, the reason they were so cold to him is because he looks exactly like his dad, who we've established is the source of all evil in this universe. Not to mention she had to carry him alone, knowing he was the son of a man who never loved her.

Maybe he can work on reconnecting with his mother, but this whole mess recently started because whatshisname basically told Manabu "I'll accept you as my son, but everyone will still hate you and you'll have to give up the life you've built for yourself, abandoning everyone you know and care about because they aren't fit to be seen in Our royal presence. Of course you accept such a magnanimous offer, why should I even have to ask, now pack your bags and get moving, chop chop."

Since I'm fairly certain he's not interested in accepting that offer, I don't think he has any need to associate with most of the family any further. Besides, similar appearance or not, most of them were still serious pricks to an innocent kid who knew nothing about why they were treating him like that.

I never said it was justifiable. But it sure as hell makes sense. This isn't something you fix, even in anime. At the very best you build a bridge over it, but it's still going to be a giant f***ing hole in the ground between you for the rest of your collective lives.

Am I missing something? Why is everyone acting like Manabu's dad is Hitler or something.

I read the chapters and this is what I see. Azami asked him out and he tried to make it work. His sister was in a potentially abusive situation and he couldn't abandon her. He got confronted and he was straight them. He didn't try to weasel his way out of anything, make up any lies. He flat out told them the situation. I think some people get wrapped up in the incest, which I don't think it is, I think he meant familial love.

If anything he pulled a Hachiman, and basically made himself look like the bad guy.

I think people read his attitude as him being flippant and not caring, but he was honest with everyone and willing to take the crap.

For all we know he probably did love Azami, but he could not abandoned his sister.

And honestly it worked out except Azami was a b###h to Manabu, but it all worked out fine. She ended up with Shosuke, Manabu was born and was able to grow up with a cool granddad, and his dad was ultimately able to take care of his sister. Plus he was able to keep his family issues from troubling the Tanaka's and he even played the scapegoat, so they had an easy target to blame.

Honestly I don't get why he is not getting more sympathy because in the end he is the only one taking heat.

In my opinion if he had just been playing around with Azami, he would not even have bothered. He would have just made some excuse and left. I for Christ sake, you saw his personality before they started going out, he was nice quite guy who just did his job. Even now he is a laid back guy willing to take any crap, do you honestly think he is that callous. No.

Good God people, go read My Life as a romantic comedy couldn't be any more wrong. And then I think you will be more able to understand the father.

You do realize there are other ways of helping his sister out without having to leave the woman he "loved" you know?
He could have told the family that his sister needed his help and asked them if they could help, I'm sure Azami would have been kind enough to offer that up and even if gramps or the rest of the family said no then I'm sure she would have left with him to go help his sister.
Plus if it was just familial love then he could have just explained what was going on with his sister and that it was only just his sister that needed his help, why bother telling them it was the woman he really loved and that he didn't love Azami in the first place, makes no sense at all.

No, the way this went it certainly paint Manabu's father as a giant ahole.

And Reina still best life time partner material, can't lose her Manabu, she's most def a keeper!

People don't think a like, and people have different values. The Japanese have different values, they hold things like honor in very high regard. Sure he could have handled it differently, but from what I hear Japan is a country where they tend to keep things in house, and I could view it as him not wanting to trouble Azami's family. He would be bringing shame to his own family, exposing to the public that his family was physically abused and the pushing the troubles on an "unrelated" party.

Hell even in the US and other countries, At least particularly among men there is a notion to fix problems on your own. Your are viewed as a failure if you ask for help.

I think you are the one who doesn't understand. You are looking at a situation in which you had no involvement or stake in hindsight, and suggestion what is the best course of action. People aren't robots and won't respond to the same situation the same way even if they have the same intentions.

Would she have helped out? Sure. But her and her grandfather are exception. It was already bad enough that she was dating a "commoner", but now he is going to bring his problems into the family. The normal view would be to kick him out anyway, that is the mind set these rich old families have.

Like I said if he was anywhere near the ass hole you people think, he would have continued to lie to them and stuck around, or just disappeared. He actually owned up to it and flat out told them the truth. That is not something a "bad" character does.

Even when he met with Manabu. Have you ever watched anime with terrible parents. It usually ends up when the kid meets the parents, the parent basically tells them f off, view the kids as unwanted, or just flat out ignore them. He met with him when he didn't have to , and he took the punch from the kid and once again let him play the bad.

Did you not see him trying to help out Reina? Why is the author going so far out of his way showing him doing nice guy acts when he doesn't have to?

And even if it was incest. So what? I am sure if he was a homosexual, and it was gay relationship, everyone probably would be backing him, to be with his "true" love. Its not like they even did anything, clearly they don't have kids, and maybe it never even went that far. So what if he loved his sister in that way?

The dad is at worse a classically flawed tragic character - a man holding unto a love that will not be approved by society, trying to change but realizing he can't, and at best he is a genuinely nice guy who cared for Azami but solved a string of situation as best as he could.

I think a large part of the problem is that the story is from Manabu and reina's perspective, they have been the MCs for 70 chapters, and the best defense his dad gets speculation a couple panels in one chapter.

I'd like to ask which version is better overall? I believe I read the one with only the main characters in it, whereas the other one had a bunch of different characters early on. I'll assume the sister is "profound" in both versions(but if she's not, I definitely want the one where she is).

Newest chapter:

Manabu decides to say "screw you, uncle". Reina moved to tears.

Also, inappropriate fireworks.

Agreed even I leave my ex to fix up my family issues. And if he persist in their relationship. It wil not do good... This is life man take it or leave it..

Besides maybe there some circumtances that make him leave azami. Like some branch family threated him. We see that case often here in asia.
