IIRC Slaine and Inaho cooperated taking down someone, Slaine started asking about the princess, Inaho refused to answer (because he thought Slaine might be an assassin), Slaine tried to shoot him and Inaho dodged and shot back. Nothing illogical.

This reminds me, I've been meaning to rewatch this series.

Heh. I had far more problems with Slaine declaring himself a feudal lord and continuing the false war against Earth killing dozens if not hundreds himself when he knew the whole thing to be based on a lie. Inaho downing a single enemy-made aircraft piloted by an unknown was pretty minor in the grand scale of things...

(Though I do agree that it was out of character for the usually logical, make use of all my assets Inaho.)

I didn't say that part was a big problem for me. I just knew that it was the start of much much worse writing going forward. And whaddya know, it did happen just as I thought.

It was illogical because Slain didn't try to shoot Inaho as far as I remember. Inaho shot Slain unprovoked, right after Slain had helped Inaho. It was a really stupid scene. And Obelisk ze Tormentor is right, the writing went all kinds of stupid and nonsensical after that.

For example, do you remember Inaho was shot in the head at point blank at the end of season 1 but somehow managed to survive and come back as a cyborg?

This show's writing was a freaking joke.

No, Slaine tried to shoot him first.

That ain't even in the top 3 of mecha death fakeouts, This isn't the best written show ever, but it's not as bad as people make it sound.

I have to agree. Having someone shot at point blank survive was way past the suspension of disbelief and went into a complete jump the shark moment.

The writing took an obvious nosedive after the first 3 episodes written by Urobuchi, but by the end of season 1 it was in completely clown show territory.

This reminds me, I've been meaning to rewatch this series.

The show could of ended on season one if Slaine could prove to Inaho that he's a ally of the princess. He will see though Earth P.O.V of the war and comes to terms about his abuse on Mars but no.

Aldnoah basically wanted their own legendary "Amuro vs. Char" rivalry but their setup was simply terrible. Again, the showrunners tried to outdo Gundam but in doing so actually did it (much) worse and made a clown outta themselves.

I'm amazed you guys remember so much after all this time. I can't even remember the names of the main characters (Slaine and Inaho, apparently) or what they looked like, much less what the story was even about.

I can't believe it, its like I don't know how many years and still on the who shot who debate ahah.

I don't remember the details, but I still remember the fun writing and reading the comments episode by episode, good ol times. The break from S1 and S2 with all the theories when instead baam, Inaho got back and slaine fully became the villain.

You can tell the writer kinda tried too much when torturing one of the two guys while the princess was enjoying her life in season 1. It's like he wanted to corrupt one of the leads as quickly as possible.

Slaine being in anguish over his actions is about the least interesting thing in the show. The dumbass gained some power from entirely corrupt Martian forces and then, instead of using that power to sue for peace, he enlarged and extended the war against Earth. This is an earth that had several metropolises all but NUKED when the Orbital Knights landed on a false pretense. Must have been millions killed!

Doing anything but trying to end that war and make things right is tantamount to supporting genocide and atomic holocaust. Slaine deserves every bad, woe is me feeling he can get and then some. As long as nobody is torturing him, as long as he is being treated well as a prisoner of war, he can stew in his Magneto prison until he dies for all I care.

I would have much rather seen Asseylum working towards peace. Perhaps with some of our pilots like Inaho in the rear to backup her diplomatic overtures with "or else" levels of force. Even Inaho standing guard on the far side of a room while Asseylum talked down a belligerent Orbital Knight and having the two share a momentary, cross room nod of recognition and nothing more would have been a better use of the show's time than... trying to make Slaine feel better about his eventually curtailed war crimes.
