I don't like Sieg's seiyuu. Why the hell the most badass fighter should sound like your generic dandere? And was it Satomi Arai as Els?

And God Damn, they already half ch. 25. Not that it's to fast but I didn't hope to see Miura vs Misaiah this soon.

So, I'm guessing from this and last week's episode that they want to go through the tournament as fast as possible. They even skipped the ED this time to squeeze two fights in. At this rate they'll pretty much catch up to the manga by the end of their run. At least we'll finally get translations for the more recent plots.

More random things:
It's apparently Mikaya, and Sieglinde Eremiah, like in the Innocent cards.
Harry and Chantez swapped magic colours. Harry is at least understandable, since she has a fire motif going on and her opponent also has red magic, which could be somewhat confusing.
That first fight had sloppy animation at times with clothing damage appearing and disappearing at random and a couple of shots having desaturated colours for no particular reason.
Why did Einhart's opponent not have a shotgun device like in the manga? Is this a 4kids anime?
So Nanoha, Fate and Hayate are just not going to show up for any of this, are they?
Why did they feel the need to give the Otto and Deed matching clothes? They're not actual twins.
Mika's hair is not longer than her body and just kind of hanging in midair, I'm disappointed. What, it's no more silly looking than Harry's permanently forked ponytail.
We don't see Muira transform and she suffers no clothing damage even though she's was almost knocked out. Get with the program, little missy, there's no room for dignity in this show!
They really need to update those life meters to display just how dead you'd really be. I think Mikaya was at something like negative 2 lives there.

Very disappointed in the fight of the girl voiced by Satomi Arai, she didn't use the capabilities of her chains-based style at all. She basically just tried to bind the adversary and charged in. No thinking at all.

Kind of same problem with the last fight of the episode: there was very little thinking and it was basically a fight decided by powerlevels, with both opponents just charging in.

I'm enjoying it, but I guess I was spoiled by other anime while waiting for a continuation of the Nanoha series.

I think the issue watching the first fight was that the chain girl had good binding, but didn't put time or effort into a finishing strike. I mean sure in theory if you bind perfectly you can just force a submit or beat the restrained person up. But she just didn't have anything to work with. Solid move though for the other girl to literally blast her own arm in order to get free initially or else she would have had trouble.

It's more just plain shocking that Miura just ran into someone that darn strong and won. Was a bit dumb and took a strike that was way too powerful early on which made the rest of it a much more difficult affair for her. Mostly just purely lucky that she endured that first attack and didn't instantly lose before showing any of her cards. I suppose you could say durability is a skill, but she paid highly for that first bad move.

Still will say Miura has an interesting fighting style and glad she's continuing onward. A pretty devastating final attack.

The problem is that twice she was attacked and could have used her own chains to get the hell out of the way of the attack, and twice she failed.
Then when she was pulled by the chains she could have let go, but she didn't.
Then the charging head on itself was stupid when she could have used her own chains to move her body unpredictably in a 3d environment.
The possibilities her powers allow are insane, yet she didn't use even 10% of them...

A fun episode, next week however will feature the matchup I'm looking forward to the most. Mirua got a little lucky but props for turning around what should of realistically been a hopeless matchup.

I actually kinda liked the fight in the second half. The first one was kinda meh though imo. Gotta give Miura credit for giving it her all. I'm curious to see how well Seig will do in this tournament.

I'm not sure. When pulled in, there wasn't that much she could do. She already had forward momentum going there. At best she falls flat on her face, opponent is loose and can stomp her down before she can get up. At worst she freezes up in surprise and takes that shot to the face.

There are possibilities with that power, but there's no telling how much she's trained them. You could just say it reflects poorly on her tactical ability. So focused on a straight forward approach and the basic method of using chains for binding. But in the end the competitors here are all pretty young individuals. Not everyone is going to quickly understand and comprehend their own potential. The win in that case may simply have just gone to the person who most fully understood how to use her abilities and be flexible, thus breaking the binds in both those different ways.

So yeah, I guess it wasn't just simply not having a good enough finishing attack. But also not making full enough use of her own ability.

Yeah, Miura got the most stunning result of the day so far. Toppling a pretty well known competitor so early in the competition. Put herself behind early, but threw everything she had into the fight. Even with her points dwindling she didn't hesitate to attack.

After watching with subs and looking back at the manga, the way they edited the Els vs Harry fight was even worse than I thought. In the manga it goes for 3 round, but we only see the beginning, the end and some cutaways in between. Here however there are no cuts, which leads to all kinds of continuity breaks, like Els suddenly having a hole in her jacket and burns on her arms, and Harry claiming to be out of bullets, even though we'll be seeing her using much more magic in her next match.

And yet more evidence that the DSAA is full of it. So they have a technology that can selectively incapacitate anyone, bypassing personal defences without hurting them, and the first thing they thought to use it for was torturing girls during sporting events. And the way they described that, it gives competitors with bladed weapons or fire affinity a major advantage. Speaking of which, did Miura go her entire fight feeling like she'd been sliced open and her guts were about to spill out? Because if so, damn, she's as metal as Vita! Which makes sense, I suppose, since she is learning from her.

Simulating the actual damage they'd face if it were a true battle is not "torturing" people. If anything, this is far more ethical than a real life martial arts tournament, in which real injuries and death can occur.

I find the combat system pretty interesting. A good way for competitors to take their hits and fight through discomfort while at the same time not having long term issues. Once that fight is over all is reset. No one has to spend months in rehab or anything. Probably the only way you could get that society to sanction this kind of thing for minors in the first place. And it'd be a shame if these characters had to hold themselves back for a long time because their magic was too strong.

I doubt it can bypass defences. Rather, it should be a feature installed in the devices, necessitating the consent of the competitors. Otherwise, yes, they totally should use it against criminals...

Probably not. Even if it looks like she fought bare-handed and unarmored, she has magical defences.

That society sanctions actual child soldiers in actual life-or-death struggles.

We don't have the technology that would allow people to pummel each other at full strength, without causing considerable pain, but they do. The system is already set up with hitpoints, ring-outs and time limits to allow a winner to be determined without forcing someone to back out due to simulated broken bones, burns and cuts. That would be like if we electrocuted competitors during fencing matches because, hey, in a real duel it hurts when you get cut.

I'm not so sure about that, the same sword cut through a bus lengthwise and she was at 10% life, if that doesn't count as a shield-piercing attack, what does?

The system is designed to emulate damage that would disable or weaken an opponent without knocking them out. Attacks that would leave a person stunned, or in some other way unable to fight at their best. The fighters are justified in expecting their attacks to have that kind of effect: the ability to hit someone in a way that weakens them so you can move in to finish them is a major part of pretty much any martial art. The girls are not being injured, everyone is monitored for adverse effects, and there are fully-equipped medical facilities onsite that fighters can be rushed to after their battles to ensure that they have taken no harm.

You are blowing this out of proportion. This is a simulation. No one is suffering harm, and everyone has agreed to it beforehand. Moreover, all of these girls tend to think of this contest as one of the most enjoyable events of their lives, and they keep coming back to it year after year for as long as they qualify. So relax already.

It doesn't seem all that much worse and frankly is a lot kinder than sports. Even there people consent and agree to go through what could be a physically painful experience and injuries. They consent to a certain range of harm and that's pretty well what you have here. No one is forced into it and everyone consents to what will happen. Seems like the best way you could handle this without just having no magical competitions at all outside of target accuracy, fighting robots, and things like that.

ANYway... Arai Satomi as Els? Not at all what I hear when I read the manga...

On the other hand:

Sieg is one of the nicest girls in the world. Her voice didn't bother me.

This episode felt awfully compressed. I get that fights in manga take up more space than in animated form, but still, that was a whole mess of chapters they just tossed into a single episode. And they didn't even introduce SPOILER. They'd better not be cutting her out, she's important later.

Miura is definitely a badass that deserves the title of indefatigable lunatic.

I just hope Nanoha 4.0 doesn't burn out like the original Nanoha.

And they are definitely marching through the chapters very very quickly. At this rate, we might just catch up to the manga, if this anime is two cours.

Then I read the manga, she made an impression of nice and calm but not a shy girl. And in anime she sounds to shy and soft. She needs somehow deeper voice.
