Four and a half more hours. With both the anime and the manga on holiday leave, my immune system decided it couldn't work without its weekly dose of Gintama and took a vacation too. Four and a half more hours until I can tempt it to come back so we can merrily watch the new episode.

Now c'mon anime staff! Show us where your budget went last episode! Don't let us down. WHO'S READY FOR THE RETURN OF GINTAMA?!

That was kind of a disappointing OP from Does. Definitely not on the same level as Donten.

What an awesome episode. Though, me knowing what happened already in the flashbacks due to reading the Manga at this point kind of makes me wish it had just kept on with the fight but yah know for Anime viewers only

Another freakin week for a new episode, UGH!

Oh, I forgot Zuura knew him longer than Gintoki, crazy right?

I personally don't find it too disappointing, but I agree it's not as good as Donten (or even Shura tbh). Still a good song to me anyway. On the other hand the ED is lacking.

That was the perfect point to end the episode on. Good thing there isn't another two weeks wait, huh?

I love the song. It's the visuals that disappointed me, 70% of the OP is made up of recycled animation, and those ink blotches are bad. You can tell they had no more budget for the OP.

This episode looked better than either Gintama movie.

The flashback scenes were good. I kept thinking I was watching a movie, with those horizontal bars up top and on the bottom.

Overall, I think the manga handled the shifting from past to present and vice-versa much better. It was almost seamless in the manga as Sorachi weaved back and forth between the fight and the flashbacks. I was also kind of disappointed that the OP was pretty much all reused images from the PV, last OP, and the earlier episodes. I'm assuming we'll get new visuals once this arc is over though, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

EDIT:
Couldn't watch the last bit before (almost late for work ), but now that I have, that ED... So much nostalgia. So many feels. Not too big a fan of the song, but those images got me. They should have done something slower and more emotional. Like Samurai Heart or something along those lines. It would definitely fit in better...

After watching the ep again, I have less qualms with the transitioning in the second half as well. I suppose my expectations were a bit off since in the manga each strike seemed to be packed with so much more force because of the still frames, while the anime is showing more than one blow between the flashbacks.

Haven't watched yet, just about to.

But this made my day even before I click play.

Edit: watched,

That's a nice flashback while still showing the present fight.
Talking about who grows stronger then who... and the fun times they had during childhood...

man, this thing is somewhat saddening.

I like the opening.

This was an awesome chapter, at the last attack I just say 'Takasugi won' so epic, but this isn't over yet, just to wait another week

Or they will reveal the real OP animation once the Shogun Assasination arc is over.

Less than one hour to go. Get the tissues ready, guys.

EDIT: Pah, put those tissues away. So much for finding out where the budget went. So many derp faces and questionable directional choices.
Spoiler for ep 305:
Anyway, I'm biased, since I read the manga and I already had an idea of what I wanted from that scene in my head for the past year. I'm curious as to how anime-only viewers took this episode. If you ask me though, it's not as emotional as it could have been.

they tend put past stuff midway between battles which kinda ruins the immersion

aren't they suffering from too much blood loss though?

Agreed...
They should have put a break between Takasugi POV and Gintoki POV there.
But then that cliffhanger, damn it...

My only disappointment is how they adapted this scene, or rather, didn't bother too:

As for the rest, I think it was good. Koyasu and Sugita were godly, especially Koyasu. It's like those two were born for these roles.

Gintoki vs. Takasugi just officially became my third favorite anime fight of all time, right after after Kenshin vs. Saito and Kenshin vs. Shishio.

It feels strange to finally understand what happened in the past. Think I was better of not knowing because man, that was so depressing. ;___;

Would have been cool to see this scene animated, but I was pleased with the episode. Music placement and voice acting were top quality.
