New Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World (Kino's Journey)

A new anime project for "Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World (Kino's Journey)" got announced today.

Plot Summary/Premise:
Quote:
Destination is a state of mind. A tale of one girl and her bike and the road ahead. Kino wanders around the world on the back of Hermes, her unusual, anthropomorphic motorcycle, only staying in each country for three days. During their adventures, they find happiness, sadness, pain, decadence, violence, beauty, and wisdom. But through it all, they never lose their sense of freedom. They discover that because of the world's imperfections, it is actually a thing of beauty. "The world is not beautiful, therefore it is."

Show will air in October 2017, Yanagi Nagi will perform the OP and ED theme songs.

News: ANN

I used to hope for a return of Mikuni Shimokawa for new theme song, but Yanagi Nagi isn't bad.

In the novel he's one of the main characters, there are a lot of stories about his journey and his companions.

The official website has already shown the designs of all the major characters from the novel that will appear in the new anime: http://www.kinonotabi-anime.com/character/

The first adaptation mainly just focus on Kino and Hermes's journey, so the new anime must be focus on the journeys of other main characters too.

The site notes that the background music featured in the video is the anime's main theme music, composed by Yoshiaki Dewa (A Lull in the Sea, Flying Witch)

The site is also hosting a 12-minute voice drama titled "Comike no Kuni" -Welcome to the Summer Wars!-" which features Kino, Hermes, Shizu, and Ti heading to the "Land of Comiket" (a parody of the real-life Comiket). Keiichi Sigsawa wrote the story, and Kouhaku Kuroboshi drew the illustrations. The 92nd Comiket (Comic Market) is taking place from Friday to Sunday.

Episode 1:

This episode gave me nostalgia. Kino's narration from the beginning, the atmospheric setting, and storytelling brings back a lot of memories from many years ago.

The visuals/animation looked good even after all these years. Even the music works well for the first episode imo so far. Kino's character is exactly how I remember her as well in this anime. She hasn't changed and still rides her iconic bike with her gun.

Good start, can't wait to see more!

Apparently, this show will be 1-cour running for 12 episodes.

Kino's journey. Be silent in the presence of greatness. Or not, if you want to write discussion posts!

I like the animation style. Opening narration felt a little more poetic than I remember. Three day in each land, quick-draw practise, cool as a cucumber Kino, all familiar from the original classic.

The episode reminded me irresistibly of the episode in Huckleberry Finn where Colonel Sherburn guns down a drunk for insulting him, then, in an opposite turn of events from the anime, routs the mob that tries to lynch him by calling them cowards. The Peaceful Land is only peaceful because its people ubiquitously see violence as a last resort, unlike Sherburn, and are brave enough to crush violence with violence, unlike the mob. Even if all the townspeople are violence-hardened fugitives like Regal, the ones like him who were sick of violence probably took some time to kill off the ones that weren't when the country got started.

Rather than saying that there would be no violence if everyone carried guns, I think this episode is more about the qualities that humans need if they want to build a 'violence free' society by one possible method. Or it might be about majority opinions crushing minority views that aren't explicitly prohibited, not guns at all. I also remember at least one original series EP with a lot to say about cyclic gun violence.

The only complaint I have about this episode is that the CGI badly stood out at times. And that's it. Everything else - the voice acting (still can't believe how much Aoi Yuuki managed to sound like the original seiyuu), the music, the visuals, and the story- was perfect.

The directing isn't as stylistic as that of the first series, but Kino's stories are more than enough to carry the show. The packaging may have changed, but it's definitely still Kino. And her journey promises to be fantastic once again.

I haven't watched any of the older Kino no Tabi stuff. Should I? This seems to be well regarded though, can someone explain the appeal? I have just watched the first episode and am not sure about yet.

This was pretty good. I was expecting to be disappointed by this because the original is so perfect, and while I don't think this was quite as good as the first episode of the original, the direction style is remarkably faithful to the first series. Definitely seems like a must-watch for the season.

Pretty good. It doesn't make the original obsolete, but I wonder if it's a sequel?
