But then, maybe it should show to audience how and where she picked out the telepathic and troll power from.
Ok, so hear me out:
Spoiler for Full plot for Takagi-chan:
Takagi is an alien.
She was sent to Earth to survive the destruction of her race in a devastating war. Her mind was basically implanted in a human body.
She always had telepathic powers. But as time passes, she loses them, together with her own memories of the past. Her alien self becomes more and more just a human child. She can feel herself vanishing day after day, and is afraid, and in pain for what she remembers of her planet, and at the same time does not want to go, to lose all those memories.
She can't find comfort in the company of other children in the nursery. She is, after all, an adult, hyperintelligent, telepathic alien; they are just human children.
Except one. There's this one kid she sees now and then in the courtyard whose thoughts she can't read. She enjoys his company. They spend time together, and he keeps teasing her. She can never see it coming, and this is enjoyable to her. It's a game she can't play with anyone else - they're all open books.
But time passes, and her memories go. Her telepathy weakens. Her mind is more and more that of a child.
Until one day, she knows she's about to lose the last of her memories, but she's also so much of a child, all she can do is cry in a corner. And her friend comes to try to lift her spirits.
And she says everything. She just tells the whole story - all she can remember - not caring for how crazy it sounds. They're just children, after all.
And he stares at her, shocked, and suddenly she understands.
He was an alien too. From the same planet. Sent to Earth the same way as her.
But it's too late.
The next day, they lost all of their memories. They still play together, but it's not the same. There's no more special link. Soon Takagi-chan, now just a human child, joins everyone else in playing their normal games.
She doesn't remember who she was.
She doesn't remember who her friend was.
All she has is a weird propensity to guess what other people are thinking at random moments...
...and the lingering feeling that teasing someone...
...is a sign of love.
