Just wanted to say hi... joined Animesuki for this thread, have been reading what's already been written for a few days now. I don't suppose there's an archive thread for decisions that have been made about the various characters and how they differ from the originals, is there?

Thanks for the welcome and reading suggestions. Essentially, I'm trying to avoid the cliche of a newbie joining and saying "I know I just joined but I've been lurking for four months and actually know a lot about this subject" (which most people don't tend to believe) as well as the "Hey, I'm new and haven't read anything yet, but I have a lot of suggestions to make this better!" annoyance. I'm planning on reading the entire thread, but I'm looking for a quick summation of particular things that have already been decided/tabled so I can still contribute while getting completely up to speed.

Why is this school at the top of what may well be the biggest hill in the damned city?!

I wipe my brow with one hand as I survey the ridiculously long path laid out before me. I thought I had gotten used to it, but maybe the just as ridiculously long summer break had erased all of my muscle memory... And besides, it’s still ridiculously hot.

Add that to my ridiculous household and you have one ridiculous day.

Ridiculous.


As I crest the top of one of the smaller, mini-hills that form a part of the even bigger hill, I notice a familiar figure standing by a lightpost, staring up at the sky.

Itsuko?

What's she doing here, of all times?

I was about to call out to her, but then I realized that, since she hasn't noticed me yet, this would be an excellent opportunity to get a glance at her unguarded expressions.

Strange. She looks... distant? And also... sad.

No, I'm imagining things.

1) Call out to her.
2) Just keep walking.


Hint of a Real Smile

Kyonko: Oi! Itsuko!

Itsuko: Waaaagh!


She jumps at the sound of my voice, uttering a noise of shock I honestly never expected to hear from her.

She turns around, affixing her usual fox-like grin to her face, but, of course, it's a little too late.


Itsuko: Ahem, good morning.

Kyonko: ...Isn't it a little early and hot to be acting that suspicious?

Itsuko: Ah, you saw... I was just deciding whether or not I would be late today.


...I'm... sorry?

What?

Are you feeling okay?


Itsuko: Yes, of course, I am perfectly fine in every way, like always.

She turns her head away from me as she answers. She certainly seems eager to avoid eye contact.


Kyonko: Itsuko... is it about THAT?

Itsuko: Why yes, yes it is.

Kyonko: Good, because I--

Itsuko: Of course, that really depends on how you define “that”. Since the word “that” could very well refer to anything, my answer to your question would automatically be “yes”. The real question, therefore, is what your question is.

Arrgh! It’s too early in the morning to have to deal with this person!


Itsuko: Have you figured it out yet?

Kyonko: Shut up and listen. You know what I'm talking about. We were ALL affected by that endless summer in at least some way; you can't tell me you aren't worried about something because of it.


Her carefully practiced-in-front-of-the-mirror smile vanishes in an instant.


Itsuko: ...It's not exactly what happened this summer, it's more... what didn't happen, I suppose. Or what could have happened that may have happened but will never happen again. Perhaps...


Even when not faking her face she still makes no sense!

Still... this is the first time I've seen her act like this, so I think I should do something. Or maybe I have seen her like this before, but I don't remember because it didn't happen, but it did.

Auuugh it's contagious!


Kyonko: Well, um, is there anything I could do to help?

Itsuko: What? You!?


Immediately, she bursts into her incredibly stereotypical laughter. Thanks for that, Itsuko. Thank you for throwing my geniune concern in my face.


Itsuko: No, no, it's not you I'm laughing at. I suppose it would be the irony of the situation.

Kyonko: Huh?

Itsuko: But, still, thank you so much for worrying about me.


She turns her head away from me again, but this time it's not to avoid eye contact, it's... to hide something?

She's smiling, but... she's always smiling.

That's not special, right?


Itsuko: Well then, why don't we head to class together? For a change, that is.


I had been planning on asking Itsuko about the events of last night, but now it feels like a bad idea. If she has this many problems of her own, it'd probably be better not to bother her any more and ask Nagato instead.

Geez... this person is honestly the most complicated I've ever met.

What was up with that 'smile', anyway?


Itsuko: By the way...

Kyonko: Yeah?

Itsuko: Have you given any thought to that 'solution' of mine?


Gah, not this again....

And we climbed the hill to school together, like so.


Ridiculous

I've had enough ridiculousness for one day, and Itsuko making out-of-character facial expressions certainly qualifies as ridiculous to me.

I'll let her be, she seems busy anyway.

In any case, I should get going.

That was fun to write. Itsuko is still my most favorite character ever.

Aw, poor Itsuko. Isn't it depressing that in 15,498 loops, it probably never happened? Funny that in all this time I never really looked at Itsuko/Itsuki as a tragic figure.

Seriously though, I've only really started to feel for Itsuki because of Itsuko's sheer moe as well, though both are my favorite characters.

Haruhi is an immediately evident otaku.

Mitsuuru and Mikuru could be taken for twins, so she'd probably dress them in similar outfits.

Black Lagoon twins are better. They dig into much deeper levels of incest, and tote guns, at the same time. They're also into torture as much as they are into murder. Don't forget obligatory twin identity crisis. All of that's topped off with gothic lolita/shota outfits.
