Well, at least it was not as detailed as the comic but still...

Anyhoo, they used good number of VN BGMs in this episodes.
Coupled with butterfly SE, that sure was enjoyable for these who experienced VN.
And... that was Highrashi anime that Maria was watching, wasnt it?

thats good news. i havnt played the games myself, but i have heard those tracks ( which are awesome) if goldenslaughterer is there hopefully the other tracks by same artist will be as well.. im looking forward to this

Wow! I'm quite surprised with the level of blood and gore in murder scene. Due to the *beep* in previous episode, I expect that it will be censored too. That's great. I will definitely enjoy watching this episode.

the beeping was from the RAW encoder, not the anime itself

Spoiler for Episode 2:

-Letter scene went extremely fast: none of the adults tried to harass Maria regarding the letter, and they weren't exactly "shocked", barely surprised at the sight of this.
-Maria was really abnormal during the letter, I think the manga wasn't that exaggerated.
-Adults rushing at Kinzo's study was short but definitely OK (I was expecting much more enraged attempt).
-The discussion between Kyrie and Battler was fine as well and they didn't dramatize too much Rudolf bombshell announcement though it is still underplayed.
-The ingot scene was completely mauled: Krauss leads Natsuhi in a locked room, he unveils the ingot and boum, eyecatch.
-After the eyecatch, Natsuhi is seen the corridor and Jessica joins her and out of consideration, gives her the scorpion talisman (anime watchers won't understand why Natsuhi was in such shape unfortunately).
-George and Shannon scene was shorten to its minimal content: George giving the ring to Shannon. Of course, since Battler's comic scene with Shannon was altered, the whole "this is an order" doesn't make sense here.
-Shannon is suddenly already at the mansion, and the episode shows all characters whereabouts.
-Quick jump at morning period. Kanon discovers that Gohda isn't at the kitchen yet and the phones are out of service.
-Natsuhi wakes up and had put the talisman at the door knob. Genji comes and report the problem regarding gohda's absence and the phones, then we see the door completely messed up (the whole door, not only the knob).
-They kept the scene between Natsuhi and Kinzo to its almost full content.
-Genji intercepts her as she leaves with Eva, saying there is a problem with the garden storagehouse.
-The adults are shocked to see a giant magical circle on the storagehouse.
-Kids are still in the mansion but they notice genji rushing in and telling something to nanjo.
-Kids are curious and chase after them, and they notice the whole scene: the corpses in the storagehouse...
Battler's cries was absolutely shortened: it didn't even last more than 10 second, and George ask if there are only 5 corpses, but hideyoshi says there is a sixth one. End of the episode

Will post a proper opinion once the raws are up, but this episode is REALLY not any better in pacing...
The only thing that redeem this episode was the fact they used Golden Slaughterer for the last scene. Aside of this, the Drama CD just overwhelm the rest with ease.

Yes definitely: The manga managed to convey the mood much better, even with the same cut scenes.

The manga can use just few pages to convey the character feeling or development by filling them with lot of letters (like in novel). So the audiences can enjoy reading. That's no surprise why manga can cover more materials than in anime which has a restricted time.

Spoiler for My opinion on episode 2:

This episode was MARGINALLY better than the first. As Klash said, lots of things were shortened. However, I can't help but think they were rushing through everything at a dramatic pace. It really detracted from the overall impact of the final scene. Also, I'm glad they kept Golden Slaughter in it. However, I felt the positioning of the song was bad,. The VN made started straight into the song as soon as the bodies were found by the kids ( I think) and it was timed very well.

I'm NOT pleased with how the anime is handling Natsuhi. She is one of my favourite characters and they seem to be butchering all her important scenes. Especially the gold scene with Krauss. ( Where'd that come from?) and then Jessica suddenly handing her the scorpion charm.

I thought the scene with Kyrie and Battler was done pretty well, not much to complain about there.

The scene with Shannon and George was OK, but rushed.

I'm also pretty concerned the the standard of animation. Too many static facial expressions, weird facial expressions in general, awkward running motions ( Did you see Nanjo run? WTF), and breast size related problems.
The voice acting, though was great, thoough. No problems there.

Overall, I can't help but think this episode could've been handled alot better. I really think they need to slow down a bit with the pacing as as the first episode it just seems horribley paced and put together. Some of the scenes are fine when they stand alone, but when put together it's was rather... meh.



It's still earlydays. I hope they can bring things together. We'll see.

Okay, just got through the raw. Time for a review:

Spoiler for episode 1-2 spoilers:

Pros:
-The letter reading scene was good.
-Kyrie's talk with Battler was at a fair length.
-Kinzo didn't look overally insane this episode.
-Speaking of Kinzo, I like how they made his study look. The chessboard floor was a very nice touch.
-Facial expressions were good, in some instances.
-Kinzo and Natsuhi room scene was barely cut up from the original.
-I like how they showed Eva staying behind after Natsuhi and Genji left, for spoiler reasons.
-lol Maria watching Higurashi Rei. No wonder she's such a creepy child.

Cons:
-Maria was just too over-exaggerated with her craziness in the letter scene. Maria's first signs of creepiness are suppose to be the 'bad luck' scene and then later.
-Nobody seemed to be surprised when Maria showed them the letter. Natsuhi and Hideyoshi looked shocked but everyone else was like "Oh a letter, with the family emblem on it. Let's ignore the stamping."
-The close-up on faces ended up being more hilarious than frightening. Whenever Rudolf got a face close-up I ended up laughing. Not good for a situation that's suppose to be mysterious.
-Rudolf's 'I'm going to die' bit was very nonchalant. He was /really/ supposed to be freaked out and nervous for some reason. It was very underplayed.
-The gold ingot scene. Krauss doesn't even explain about the ingot - he just opens the room, puts on the lights, takes off the veil, and Natsuhi goes "Oshi-" and that's it. The scene with Jessica giving her the charm makes a lot less sense because Natsuhi's plight and sorrow over what happened isn't even displayed.
-Kinzo in the study scene with Natsuhi. The entire point was that Kinzo was suppose to be facing away from Natsuhi but he ended up turning to her half the time.
-Natsuhi's pride after being told that she had the eagle in her heart was very underplayed. Eva just came up there and then Genji rushed in. The entire shock from Eva that Natsuhi looked less pitiful was gone.
-The 1st twilight scene wasn't good. Okay goldenslaughter was kept and that's awesome, but everything just speeds by so quickly you can't even get a good feeling for the plight of the characters. Jessica was the only one done well this part, but half the time she was just trying to get inside while Natsuhi almost comically pushed her away.
-If they decided to include seeing Shannon in the shed then they should have waited till next episode. Ending on George's expression like that was a very meh ending.

Major Con (yes, I made a separate part just because I was that disappointed)
-Explanation of Battler's family STILL not included.
Seriously, I was really displeased. Even the manga included this around the 'I'm going to die' bit, but the anime couldn't spare a minute or two to explain Battler's relationship between himself, Rudolf and Kyrie. Now that Rudolf and Kyrie are dead I don't think they'll even get to it until next arc :/

Overall:

6/10

Everything just felt underplayed. The parents weren't so much shocked at the letter as they were surprised. The 1st twilight scene was as mutilated as the bodies inside the shed. Shannon and George's scene was very meh. Pacing wasn't nearly as terrible as last episode, but it could have been better. Only scenes I felt were nicely rendered was Kinzo + Natsuhi's scene and Kyrie's chessboard flipping talk. Otherwise everything else was very meh.

Pro Tip: Manga does a much better job with giving more feeling to the scenes.
