Quote:
This world consists of two dimensions joined as one, like a mirror. The first is the world in which the humans live, Assiah. The other is the world of demons, Gehenna. Ordinarily, travel between the two, and indeed any kind of contact between the two, is impossible. However the demons can pass over into this world by possessing anything that exist within it. Satan the god of demons, but there's one thing that he doesn't have, and that's a substance in the human world that is powerful enough to contain him!! Episode 1:

First of all, anyone planning to watch this pretty much should watch the first season (at least first half anyway). They get right into this without recapping anything and the characters are from the manga.

Really glad to see Shiemi, Bon, etc. The OST is still pretty much how I remember even after all these years.

Looks like the setting takes place in Kyoto. Personality wise, Bon is still pretty much how I had expected him to be like, even his rivalry with Rin. The quality by A-1 seems decent so far too. Izumi and Rin's character chemistry (lol, Eyebrows) was amusing to see as well. This felt more like a buildup for rest of the season but I'm excited to see what's to come soon.

Only 1 cour though.

"Exorcists aren't perfect. We can't save everyone."
Man, I wish the manga would follow that line more often. xD
Though in this case Rin really made things only worse with his blue flames, nearly killing that boy. I kinda wished he had shown more remorse for that or that we heard his inner thoughts feeling guilty making those promises but it had to be his younger brother to risk his own health to keep that boy alive. Without such him telling Yukio that he will make him eat his dust doesn't sound cool but more childish and kind of rude too. Think about what you did before you say such things, Rin! >-<

Also the train scene is what made me a Rizumo-shipper! <3
I just loved it how the others avoided Rin, for good reason outta their perspective as told by Sugoru given they knew that blue flames kill people plus the last time they had seen Rin he had been quite a frightening sight in his demon berserker form. And then there walks Izumo up, sees Rin staring outta the window sulking and the others awkward sitting behind him and what does she? Just sits besides him and cheers him up in her own tsundere way. Good girl bringing back that goofy smile on Rin's face. Rizumo FTW!!! <3

Just one scene: that's all Izumo needed to show why she was the best.

It's honestly to see her stand by Rin and support him while everyone else is avoiding him, even if she did it in her own tsundere way.

So, out of curiosity, did this series just pick up as if ignoring some pieces of the first season? It seems, based on the flashbacks, that the last real contact most had with him was being dragged away to face judgment when I know the first season went on for some time after that. (not that i'm complaining, just want to get timelines straight here)

Pretty much. Most of season one after Rin got dragged away was anime orginal, so in order to continue following the manga, the studio decided to ignore the latter half of season 1 for this season.

They were like "we do not talk about the latter half of season 1, it does not exist". And good riddance are they right in that approach!

I wish there was a clean break between the manga-adapted material and the original stuff in the first season, so I could recommend people to watch it only up to a certain episode and then switch to the new season. The problem is that while the first 15 episodes are pretty faithful to the source, episodes 16 and 17 mix material from the manga (Rin's trial and the batting cage training scene) with original scenes that contradict the beginning of the Impure King arc. It would be nice if they assembled a "canon cut" of those two episodes.

How I've missed this anime. This episode was great as an introduction to the Kyoto Arc which was one of the best received arcs of the manga and the point where it got good enough to impress readers since it moved the plot along fantastically. However, because they’ve essentially retconned the last arc of the anime and decided against going the Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood route, some people will be confused.

BTW: I did a spoiler review here.

Which is exactly what the same studio did with Kuroshitsuji - just pretend the original stuff never happened.

Most interesting for me is what Oono Toshiya does with this. He can be feast (Tsuritama) or famine (Gatchaman) as an original writer, but really he's new to conventional adaptation work. An interesting and unconventional writer by nature.

I had a bit of a hard time understanding some stuff until the flashback near the end. That's what made me realize they decided to ignore the anime original content of the first season.

Its been some time since I watched the 1st season so I was thrown off by the first episode, they played it like the first season debuted a couple months ago. The same feel of the show is there so I'm looking forward to the rest of the season
