Argh. I don't know.. i don't think I'm sold. negatives first: For a bit, I thought it was better in motion but...but not really. The animation quality is so so and I'm ok with that, but lord, Usagi's face. Luna's face, for that matter! Quite a few pieces of Quality!Animation already Luna's VA sounds like she's just reading the script and the contrast between Kotono and the new voice for Luna makes me worry that the voice cast might not work together- in the sense that its awkward to have one familiar voice with the rest being new. it might be better if she tried to put a fresh spin on the role instead of copying her old performance. neutral: The music at the beginning at first sounds a bit like a certain famous piece of OST from another magical girl anime. positives: The images of Ami and Minako looked a lot better though. They adjusted that gigantic head of hers, or at least it looked like it. Also, Usagi's hair looks nice. It looks like they did something about the limbs too, although that may just be the angle. And it's just a trailer. Plenty trailers look pretty crappy compared to the finished product. So I'm still holding out hope. But I'm not blown away.

I still possess no desire to purchase a ticket to board the hype train, but I am patiently waiting on discounts to board later departures... Err, meaning I'm still going to watch the hell out of it. But I'm going to be pretty judgmental.

The animation doesn't look like trailer/ pv quality to me, but the backgrounds are charming and somehow mysterious. It won't be the best, but there is a certian charm to it, and Ami and Minako look gorgeous. The music is bg music is pretty nice, the opening is strange, but I'll use to it. Feel so-so for now, still better than that horrible promo art.

It's almost exactly what I expected. Not much better, not much worse. The only area where it's maybe better than I expected is...

Aside from maybe that, nothing is significantly better or worse than I expected. I was hopeful that the character designs might look better in animation than in still images, but I didn't really expect that. The strengths and weaknesses of the character designs are consistent in both still images and animation. So, visually at least, I now have a pretty strong idea of what I'm going to get. It has its pros, but I really hate those legs. I'll almost certainly watch at least an episode of this, but my enthusiasm for it definitely isn't where it was six months ago, or a year ago.

It does look a little awkward because the art style is replicating the Manga closer, but for the quality of the animation it actually looks good. Certainly not OVA standards but it's good for a TV show. Well, more like "Internet show" but I'd be surprised if it didn't air on Japanese TV in the future. But since you guys know me by now, the most important aspect of this show for me is the characters and storytelling (and how faithful it is to the Manga).

Usagi's hair is absolutely perfection.
.........though maybe her face is a tad too small for her head? Naoko had to fight with her editor about the short skirts!? I'm sorry but if she loves short, mini-skirts with BUTTS hanging out but hates moe and otaku culture, isn't that a bit hypocritical? A large part of moe is sex appeal and if butts sticking out of flimsy skirts isn't about sex appeal, WHAT IS?

I'm curious to know what exactly Naoko said/wrote about moe and otaku culture.
Maybe she just doesn't like how the magical girl genre shifted a fair bit to a more male audience-focused genre (Nanoha, Madoka) in recent years, and she's blaming moe/otaku culture for that? Of course, Sailor Moon itself paved the way for that, so that's rather ironic if it is the case. It would be kind of like Anno complaining about mecha getting overly dark after 1995.

Absolutely! Sailormoon totally paved the way for that and it's REALLY ironic. I don't think shoujo magical girl shows really sexed up their heroines before Sailormoon did. Weren't they mostly little kids? Like Akazukin ChaCha...and Minky Momo...and....oh...lol who else? Creamy Mami?
I have a hard time keeping track of mahou shoujo prior and post SM.... You could argue that the first anime of SM was made to appeal to a wider audience than just young girls (it's evident it was) but Naoko's manga makes every single teenaged and up character look sexy, the outfits are made to look sexy, the body structure, even the poses, she made every female villain pretty and curvy with revealing clothing!
