Nah, Miku isn't Rena. That much is certain. As WingedAccelerator said, Negi's trying too hard with the misdirection. He wants us to suspect Miku and is being too blatant about it. When he's being this blatant about it, that already gives away that she isn't Rena.
If Rena and Kyoto girl are the same person, then I suspect her to either be Itsuki or Yotsuba. If Rena and Kyoto girl are two separate characters, then Rena is Ichika and KG is Yotsuba.

Another thing that just came to my mind:
In the beginning of the Scrambled Eggs arc (Chapter 61), Miku basically said that she hoped to run into Fuutarou, so she deliberately went shopping farther from their home, basing Fuutarou's possible shopping place on that one time they picked him up in the Field Trip arc. That makes her even less likely as the eavesdropper, because even though the eavesdropper run away, it's not like Itsuki and Fuutarou walked kilometers just to have that talk. It was just a short walk, so the eavesdropper should have realized Fuutarou is living few minutes away from that spot. And Miku definitely would be the type to try and find his address just to visit him IMO, if she becomes aware of a clue like that. Also, if she more or less knows where he lives, she wouldn't even need a shopping alibi to be there, she could have just come and observe the area naturally, have a walk around there whenever she wants, and hope to find him that way. You nicely summed up the possibilities, MK. |

Ichika dropped the bomb
Yotsuba dropped the bait Nino looks so thirsty (that lick) and Miku looks so desperate, while also threatening in front of her sisters Itsuki... do nothing Fuutarou would be tortured if he could not put aside his feelings.. seems like his feelings started to get confused in front of the sisters since at least 3 of them are making strong push toward him |

Oh yay, Yotsuba gets her part time job resolved off-screen. Nice to see her shafted as always. >_>
But yeah, Itsuki not having a part time job yet is pretty much setup for the quest to land one. Will Shimoda be coming a return? It's probably going to be related to teaching, as Ituski herself said she wants a job where she can absorb something and help her grow. But in any case, it looks like either the big Itsuki arc is coming, or the precursor to it at the very least. With that said, this is the last I'm going to post about Rena, as I have to get my Kyoto Girl stuff in order BEFORE the next chapter arrives. Behold my brilliant MS paint skills! Spoiler for Rena pics, spoilered for size:
For me, it's not even just the forward head tilt, the eyes cast downwards, or even the overall body posture, but also the actual 'camera angle' Negi used for half of these shots. Combined together they are pretty unique to Itsuki, and scouring the entire run of the manga twice, there really isn't any other quint who has all of it together (I think Yotsuba has panel that's looking down embarassed, but not in the same camera angle as Rena's). With Rena also knowing about charms that only Itsuki and/or Kyoto girl knows narrows it down further, but the fact that Rena's named after the mom makes it a pretty done deal.

Yotsuba looks like some kind of psycho on that color page. Unfortunately, that big open smile often feels more awkward than cute. And yeah, she was a comic relief and skip material again...
Ichika's decision makes sense, but it's once again a thing that got dragged out with her. They wanted to help her out back in Chapter 52, but studying was ultimately more important in that situation. Now the smug, breadwinner Onee-san can freely act like she did them a favor, so it's payback time! I'm expecting the evicted rule to be relevant, so either Miku and/or Itsuki will be out. Not surprising that Nino wins the cooking contest. In fact, it's better if Miku doesn't get way too much wins consecutively, otherwise sure as hell she won't be the ending girl. But what's up with that stupid quiz being referenced? Fuutarou got called out on that. It was about Raiha. Don't tell me Miku thinks the first two points were legit, and now forcefully tries to change herself to fit that image? If you are not a tsundere, then changing yourself for the MC hardly works out, or like... Never? The teachers obviously have a lot of LOVE, if they arranged this class of full of Nakanos. And look at Fuutarou fighting against his happiness. How cute. |

Another entertaining chapter, and we all knew Nino would end up working at Fuutarou's place in the end, and I would say it worked out for her.
Nino and Miku have long clashed against each other with their conflicting personalities, and to see them go for Fuutarou is really quite a sight. Those two literally jumped at the chance to apply for the job.

What is the chance that 5 sisters end up in the same class again? I suspect that Nakano papa might have done something with the school management to pull that off.
Also, I fear that Itsuki is the dangerous one here. So far, the author had been trying hard to show us that she doesn't have feelings on Fuu, at least not to the extent like Miku, Nino, and Ichika. Usually in this kind of setup, the one that has the least development tend to have a greater potential for a comeback and powerful enough to smash the game board and flip the entire table to their favor on one swoop. In before that Itsuki secretly leveling up her stats, knowledge, and ability from behind and then take down Fuu from behind. For example, get 1st place in the school and that would drive Fuu crazy enough to notice her existence. |

that would be insane table flip well.. it won't happen but that kind of plot is something people hate actually like what is the point of reading a manga when someone with least development would win in the end People like to see the build-up like what is happening to Ichika, Nino, and Miku Either of those 3 would be a good choice for the ending.. Yotsuba is perfect for the "smash the game board" plot.. while Itsuki should just be Fuutarou's friend |

@Dragoon
I initially didn't plan on continuing the discussion about this topic, but since you made an effort and collected those shots, at least I can give you my answer. Honestly, I feel like you are trying too hard to make that an Itsuki exclusive thing. The middle left one is a good one, but can be easily discarded, since she was studying above her desk, and the angle makes sense there. The entire right column is heavily questionable. The first one in the middle column is the most similar, while the two beneath them are similar, but there the mouth is open. Now then, what's up with the Miku pose? As a reminder, I didn't support the idea. https://i.imgur.com/Zp5C6bn.jpg The exact same pose with the exact same composition only happened 2 times before. Is that enough for Miku being the main suspect as the bell kisser? I don't think so. Then what about the bell kisser's expression after the kiss? Teary eyed Miku had a similar one a chapter before, while Tamako-chan Ichika also had a similar one, with a different angle. Heck, Nino and Itsuki also had a similar one somehere before, so that is also not a heavy giveaway. It's vague on purpose, and you can discard the shaking excluding others and label it as nervousness because of a first kiss, so all of them are possible. Back to Ichika = Rena? https://i.imgur.com/oIJWfpS.png All it took me was 5 minutes and Chapter 58. I seriously don't think these are better than yours or anything, but as I mentioned before, I don't think Negi perfectly planned everything out to a point that to prove a mystery theory, I have to search thoroughly for panels containing character expressions and base the core of my theory heavily or solely on those. That's why I only mentioned (I think) the blackmail panels of Ichika and Rena. But as you can see, I can force other panel similarities if I want, but still not gonna think Negi already gave away Rena's identity by these. But if Negi did plan out everything before, then Nino is the bride? https://i.imgur.com/88qzihj.png Or why would this be a red herring, and the Itsuki poses not, outside of being the biggest insult to the readers giving away the bride's identity like this? Bet Negi is just having fun with these details, and surely expect his readers to come up with the wildest things in his stead. Lastly, how overanalysing and reaching is a thing with this manga. There is a long, long, long, long, long post in the subreddit called "SPOILERS - A theory on why Miku is the principal girl in the manga (Warning: REALLY long post ahead!)" The theory crafter goes into details about Miku's surprised expression from Chapter 3, after Yotsuba asked her about having someone she secretly likes? This is how the theory crafter interpreted that single panel: Spoiler:
And how did I interpreted it? It only set up the confession misunderstanding in the rooftop, there's nothing else to it. OOC reaction on purpose just to suggest Miku is in love with Fuutarou and gonna confess after Fuutarou found her letter. For the real conclusion, I guess the only thing we can agree on is that we can't persuade each other with our ideas, theories. |

^And then 90% of the fandom rage quits and the author develops a negative reputation among readers where they can't trust him to deliver when it counts... Kinda like how Seo Kouji is treated nowadays.
Pretty sure Negi won't want that.

I personally don't want Itsuki to fall in love with Fuutarou, just keep her as the odd one out that is NOT part of the race, that in and of itself would make her a better and more interesting character. Just have her be the one to help Fuutarou deal with her sisters being in love with him and to find the one that kissed him, just a friend helping friend.

That secret tease with Itsuki is just another tool from Negi to suggest that she could be the bell kisser as well, besides "main girl" used as a reason. Itsuki was just reasonable about Nino's question, while Nino is a hypocrite that expects others to fess up about their potential love for Fuutarou, while it's perfectly fine if she herself keeps it a secret from them. However, if Itsuki indeed loves him and is the bell kisser, then... Something, something discarding any semblance of good writing.
Now the anime... While it's technical aspects are worse than the anime for the rival series from the same magazine (Juliet, DomeKano), despite being more successful than them, at least the anime is already doing its job and promote the source material well. - Volume 7 had its 4th week in Top 50, currently at 151k. - Volume 1 and Volume 2 reranked, currently at 230k and 218k. |
