Pretty interesting episode overall. Loved the Ougi/Araragi conversation along with the way both characters responded to each other. Hanekawa's involvement makes this episode even more interesting as she is suspicious of Ougi's identity.

The realistic background is back!!!!! So much bake vibes in this.

Hanekawa as always seems to butt in and be an annoying character like she was always created to be.

Nevertheless since this is the start of the new arc (Sodachi Lost) of course i wasn't expecting much of a conclusion but rather a set up. Stylistically this episode has been great. The use of changing backgrounds is a signature for gatari and they didn't fail in that department. However i think this time these background choices were a bit more calculated.

The escalator scene shows how Araragi is trying to progress while Hanekawa is trying to backpedal and speak about something else, hence why they aren't on the same page. Then with Ougi and Hanekawa the pollution background shows some toxicity going on. Lastly the spot light was all for Araragi to choose.

Overall a good episode, a nice set up, and a good way to transition from the previous arc. Once u wrap ur head around the time line u can really enjoy the little foreshadows.

Felt bad for Ougi tho but i can see why Hanekawa would be suspicious. Realistically anyone would be if they see a close relationship after 3 days.

Ougi knows too much for someone who didn't know that Oikura lived in an apartment instead of a haunted house. Much creepiness, that girl has.

It's the opposite. Hanekawa is trying to guide him, like she always does, and like she said, he is deliberately avoiding the main issue about why Sodachi would be mad at him. He is getting too hung up on what he thinks he should do and not understanding that approaching the situation as "duty", thereby making it impersonal, is the actual problem. Without clearly understanding why she would be mad and acknowledging those feelings.

So that is why Hanekawa can probably guess what the problem is, since he is making the same mistake he made with her, and with Nadeko, and with a list of other people. Helping when he fails to grasp what the person really needs. Putting the cart before the horse.

She wasn't annoying!!!! D:

And yeah, the scenes with Araragi and Hanekawa were so stylistic and visually satisfying to watch (the moving walkway scene and that scene with the static background as the two go in and out of frame).

It's been a while since we've gotten a gotten a good fight with words, and Hanekawa vs. Ougi really delivered in that 6 minute bout. I can't help but feel such pity for the guy who's obviously getting played like a damn fiddle.

If I had to take away anything from this episode, then it would have to be what a pajama party would be like with Hitagi and Hanekawa. :3

To me, it looked like the point he was dodging was Ougi. Who and what is she? What does she want?

Ougi really comes across as a cat toying with a mouse before finally killing it. Hanekawa is right to challenge Ougi's motives. Now if Araragi just wasn't so clueless and easy to manipulate...

I really hate that side of Araragi... seriously how he can't even realize what the hell is happening meawhile everyone else can manipulate him.

Hanekawa was the main girl here.

Was kind of eh about Hanakawa at first at the beginning of this entire anime series.
But she grew on me. She might be the most important character, having the most screentime and most involved arcs.

In contrast, Senjyogahara is beyond useless.

I like Hanekawa so it's always good to see her. Some nice shots of her too this episode.

I'm enjoying seeing Araragi in his school uniform since it reminds me of bake and all that.

Indeed, the entire conversation was about Ougi. I would even say the entire episode. Hanekawa kept trying to share her suspicions with him, and he dodged the issue every time. Anybody would realize there is something wrong with Ougi at a glance, yet he seems to believe she's perfectly normal, it's like he's willfully blinding himself to the truth. There is something very very wrong about his behavior around Ougi. At least he was smart enough to realize Hanekawa was desperate and chose her, but even then, he still hasn't understood it was about Ougi.

I don't think the point is that he's stupid. The point is that either Ougi's got some kind of magical power, or he's got some kind of trauma induced blindspot. Or maybe both. Ougi could be a kai summoned by his trauma.

Glad that Tsubasa Hanekawa became Koyomi Araragi's partner on solving mysteries related to Sodachi Oikura.

While Ougi Oshino can solve it quickly, I'm very doubtful about her character as she (or he) knows too much!

its fairly clear that ougi's definitely got some influence on araragi. look at all those symbolism and ques being shown, such as in the previous episodes with ougi swinging a stop watch like one does to hypnotize and in this ep the swirly eyes araragi had as if he was hypnotized.

also, araragi himself noted that he usually would not disclose information like that to just anyone, further backed up by hanekawa who confirmed that araragi would not just reveal his parents occupation like he just did to ougi.

man I loved that whole verbal fight between ougi and hanekawa. like, this is what we really call as passive aggressiveness. it also creates quite a contrast to how hitagi and sodachi had their catfight got physical, whereas these two just used sharp words against each other. their fight also showed that they had similarities as well as differences.

especially loved hanekawa's trump card that nothing ougi could do against

That wasn't what I was trying to imply. Bad wording on my part. I wanted to say that in spite of the intelligence Araragi displayed in this episode when he chose Hanekawa (which probably saved his butt), he still wasn't able to register Ougi was the reason Hanekawa acted this way. This part actually proved there is a reason other than stupidity (unlike what the opening sequence implied) he's oblivious to Ougi. There is something that forces him to accept her as a natural existence in his life. Whether it's supernatural or a mental block, it's hard to tell at this point. There is no doubt in my mind Ougi is a kai possessing him though. Ougi herself pretty said as much in this episode.

So sad that I can't speculate with all of you. That's the issue with reading spoilers. None the less it was a great way to show how strong Hanekawa is now and how she is capable of helping others.

She could also be a human using some kind of technique, like Kaiki or her alleged uncle. But yeah, it does seem like he's forced to accept what she says ("I'm Oshino's niece", "we had an appointment", "we have a deep and trusting relationship"...).

Wasn't it heavily implied what was Ougi's identity back during Shinobu Time? At least I thought she was supposed to be an avatar of the 'darkness' back there.

Mind you, this is just speculation on my side. Novel/spoiler readers please don't confirm/deny.

Ougi to me seems manipulative, knows exactly the buttons to push to lead you on and set the wheels in motion, and she was able to do that with others in the previous seasons too not just only to Araragi. Seriously can't figure out what she is, what she knows and her agenda, all I know is that she's a troublemaker.
