The four panel manga series get a anime adaption

Quote:
The surreal four-panel manga centers around two 14-year-old girls, the short Popuko and the tall Pipimi. The story summary on the anime's website quotes William Shakespeare's Tweflth Night play, "There is no darkness but ignorance."

You ever feel yourself cocking your head to the side in confusion? You ever see that scene in King's Game where one guy twisted his head so much it broke off? Yeah, that pretty much sums up my reaction to this series' first ep.

Also, why the heck did they repeat the entire episode twice with different VAs?

What the hell did I just watch, and why did I watch it twice with different main voices?

I'm not entirely sure what I just watched or whether I even liked it, but I know I'll be back for more next week.

I can't believe I found something even more random than Ai Mai Mii/Somera chan...

You think we get the same thing again next week, but with new voice actors?

I watched Devilman: Crybaby earlier, there was an orgy where women turned into demons and their nipples bit people's heads off and thanks to Pop Team Epic that's only the second weirdest thing I saw today. Kudos, I guess .

Aw, I thought Houchu Ohtsuka and Masashi Ebara were really going to be the regular voice actors for Pipimi and Popuko. I actually liked them better than Noriko Hidaka and Yuji Mitsuya, who voiced them in the second half.

Neither are listed as the main seiyuu for those two actually.

Though I don't mind 12 episodes of Masashi Ebara and Hochuu Otsuka being Popuko and Pipimi.

Broadcast time is far too long for such a show, 2-5min each episode would be enough. The longer it is, the quicker it kills the laughters.

Well, it's effectively a 12 minutes anime, which is better than a full 25. But I'd like it if Crunchyroll posted them as separate entries, since its video player doesn't have bookmarks. I don't care enough to watch them both, and had I known there was a version with female voices I'd have picked that one. The deep male voices were a bit too weird for me , not to mention the lack of subtitles in the French part.

Popuko was still voiced by a male seiyuu in the second half, but Yuji Mitsuya has a much higher register than Masashi Ebara, not to mention he was doing a falsetto. Still, the regular voice actresses for Pipimi and Popuko won't debut until the second episode, apparently.

this is "Dank Memes" from 4chan in anime form.

As for the voices, I expect they'll change them every time

I actually thought Noriko Hidaka did a great Pipimi in the second half. Popuko's voice in the second half was a lot less fitting, though, and I felt it ruined some of the humor.
