Finished uploading. You can find it on my Youtube profile.

My opinion on the music is sort of "meh" at the moment. I dunno, it seems a bit too synth for my tastes. I mean, there was a lot of synth in the past games, but it feels like it was done more creatively there. Here, it kinda feels like you could've used live instruments to replace them. But then again, I don't have any moments in the game to compare them to, so maybe that'll change once I play the game.

As for the composer, it doesn't sound like Abo or ONOKEN. It kinda reminds me of the PS2 Higurashi music, though.

Episode 9: Beginning of the Massacre

Quote:
◆September 16th, 2:00 P.M. Episode/Route A――――

(Where!? Where did Sensei go!?)
Watase blindly runs arounds the insides of LABO――
Before long, he arrives at a connecting passageway, and stops.

(This is...?)
This is the connecting passageway where he first met Ena.
In this passageway, there's a bend in the "road".

(At that time, when that bent, Sensei was there...!)
It was a memory that occured merely a few hours ago. But for some reason, that only serves to make him even more uneasy.
His mouth starts to get parched.

Watase swallows his saliva, and slowly advances down the passageway.
And when he looks beyond the bend in the road――
"――!"
Watase's eyes widen.
Over there is Ena, who's body has collapsed.

"Sensei!"
He rushes over to her, and frantically helps Ena up.
Just then――
Ena's neck feebly and loosely dangles.

"... Aah."
Her body is still lukewarm.
He tries touching her neck.
――No pulse.
He looks into her pupils.――They're dilating.

He unfastens the medical checker on his wrist and wraps it around Ena's wrist.
――All five lights turn red.
There's a gunshot wound on her forehead, which goes all the way to the back of her head――...
There's no need for any more confirmation.
Ena――is dead.

"..."
Watase is at a loss for words.
Before long, he squeezes his voice from out of his chest.
"... U... a...
... Uwaa...
... AAAAAAAAH!
Why!? Why!?
Why is Sensei dead!!?"
There's no answer to that question.
Ena's now lightless eyes stare out into space.

"... Why...?
.........
... SENSEI...!!"
Watase holds Ena's corpse close.
He can feel what little warmth there is left in that body slowly begin to fade away...

Episode 11: The Slaughter Continues

Quote:
◆September 16th 5:00 P.M. Episode/Route A――――

――Before long, he arrives at some connecting passage.
Frontwards, he can see something lying down.
"Hmm...?"
When Watase stares at it, he smells something similar to rusty metal.

(...!)
――The smell of blood.
He notices it's wafting all around him, and shivers run up his spine.
(... It can't be...!?)
Watase carefully approaches it.

And as he approaches that "something", he can see its contours.
The thing lying down in the passageway――
Is a petite woman, wearing a rescue team uniform.

"M-Moribe...?"
He staggers over towards her, and lifts her in his arms.
When Watase does that, something slippery makes his arms wet.
"He... Hey...?"
Watase calls out to Jun in an unmistakably shaky voice.
But she doesn't respond.

Just then, memories of Jun flash in Watase's mind――
"――Stop! Dammit, what the hell's wrong with me, thinking something so ill-omened!? Moribe, you're not gonna die!"
As Watase screams this, he goes to affirm Jun's condition.
To see if he can find any possibility of her survival.

But there's three holes that have pierced Jun's body.
The first is on her right shoulder, the second is through her abdomen, and the last one is straight through her heart――.
Blood is overflowing from it.
Watase's gloves are already soaked with it.

"What the hell is this...? A-Are you kidding me...?
  Hey, come on, Moribe...
Cut it out already and give me an answer if you can...
Hey, can't you do that for me...?"
Watase rocks Jun's body.
But Jun never responds.

"Khh..."
Jun probably challenged that person to a fight, and was defeated.
As expected, an engine cutter was no match for a pistol.
"Goddammit... that's why, back then...
――That's why I should have properly killed 'that person'!!"
But now, it's too late for regrets.

(TN: In Japanese, "that person" is the gender neutral "aitsu". As I have no clue who the culprit is, I can't give them a gender, so I have to go with this literal translation.)

Episode 12: Who's the Culprit...?

Quote:
◆September 16th, 5:00 P.M. Episode/Route A――――

"!?"
Right out of the spot he comes out of from the connecting passage, he sees Ukita dead, blood flowing from his head.

"Wh-What...!?"
This excessively swift conclusion leaves Watase at a loss of words.
Besides the corpse, he sees blood-stained rubble had fallen.
This is probably what struck him in the head and killed him.

"Huh... Huh?
T-The old man died right here...!"
With this, apart from Watase, this leaves the only living human left here as Kazami.

(Which means... Tachibana killed the old man...!?
  No way, that's impossible, right...!?)

Episode 13: The Undiscovered Ninth Person

Quote:
◆September 16th, 5:00 P.M. Episode/Route A――――

(Is the culprit who killed those six starting to move!?
Shit! Do they intend to massacre us!?)

Right then and there, Watase is taken aback as he realizes this.
"――If that's the case, Tachibana's also in danger!"
Watase leaves the corpse there, and rushes through the connecting passageway.
But over there, there's something awaiting Watase――
"Wha...!!?"
The instant he treads upon that section, Watase is left for a loss of words.
Blood is spreading all over the floor――.
In it, Kazami has fallen face up.

"――Tachibana!!?"
He rushes over and helps Kazami sit up.
There's a large, vertical cut across Kazami's chest.
The blood overflowing from there is still warm.
"Ugh... Wa-Watase...?"
Kazami is still breathing, if faintly.

"Tachibana! Hold on, I'm going to get you medical treatment now!"
But perhaps his voice doesn't reach her, as Kazami starts talking in delirium.
"Captain, please tell me...
Just... Just what have we been caught up in...?"
"I don't know, Tachibana. I'm also――"
As he talks, he can tell that the life is fading from Kazami.

"Tachibana, that's enough! That's enough, so don't talk anymore!"
"Ah... I can't see anything...
  Hey... Where is this...?
  N-No... I don't...
want to be alone... any... more..."

Kazami mutters this in a trembling voice,
――and softly closes her eyes.
In Watase's arms, Kazami calmly breathes her last.
Silence arrives in the darkness.

"............"
Dumbfounded, Watase stares at the dead Kazami's face.
Before long, endless anger bursts from the bottom of his stomach.

"... A... Aaa...
  .... Ghhhh...
  ... AAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!"
Why!? Why the hell is this happening!!?
 Tell me, Tachibana!"
But Kazami doesn't awaken――
Watase's wish fleetingly vanishes into the darkness.

... After that, Watase staggers, wandering about LABO.
He still seeks the final rescuee.

In the midst of that, suddenly, a question occurs to him.

Even though the entirety of the temporal LABO should be reaching its contamination limit――

――Why is it that he doesn't feel any pain at all?

(TN: The word for "pain" here can also mean, "agony" or "bitterness". Interpret it as you may.)

But soon, that question no longer matters to him.

And then, he searches everywhere within LABO, but――

In the end, Watase was unable to find the "9th rescuee".

A bit of bad news.

The game's release date has been postponed from March 29th to "Spring 2012". Nakazawa has a whole page explaining why, but what it basically boils down to is that he wants more time to churn out a higher quality product, so he's delaying it for now.

The three main reasons are that he wants to improve on the Senses Sympathy System, improve on a "Map System", and to fine tune a few other aspects of the game in general. I'll try translating it a bit later.

Personally, I'm okay with this. The higher quality the final product is, all for the better, right?

Hmm... if there's a PC port in a few years, maybe we can change that... *wink wink*

I thought that's how that business model works, VN-type game on the Xbox360 then easy-ish port direct to PC.

Still feel like it's a bit of a loss for not having it on the PS3 too, like Robotics;Note is doing

With Regista, it's a bit different. They're mostly known for porting ero PC games into non-ero console versions, and have only 2 original games so far (3 if you count Secret Game, but that's a remake of Killer Queen). And out of those, only one of them has gotten an official Regista PC port: I/O. (Secret Game also got a PC port, but it was done by a different group). Nakazawa said that he hasn't even thought about a PC version yet (his answer was pretty much "Maybe, but right now, I'm focusing on getting the highest quality version of the game I can for the Xbox 360 right now"- a fair point). So we're not sure how high the chances are of getting a PC port are. Not to mention even if it does, it might take a while (I/O's PC version came out 2 1/2 years after the PS2 version).

Certainly. Nevertheless, a delay for higher quality isn't necessarily a good sign either.

A delay works out well if it allows a developer to make a good game even better - i.e. the foundation is strong, the design is great, and they just need more time to make it an A-calibre title. However, if a developer delays a game because certain aspects are very buggy or lacklustre (and the design isn't turning out to be as fun or interesting as they originally thought), chances are that they're undergoing some struggle to make a disappointing product worthwhile.

All right, I translated Nakazawa's statement.

Quote:
To everyone who's supported "Root Double" up until now, I am truly thankful to you.

We've been working day and night to try to get this game out by March 29th, but in order to reach the quality that we've envisioned, we've decided that we need more time, so the current release date has been postponed.
We're for disappointing everyone who's been looking forward to the release date. We apologize from the bottom of our hearts.
We hope that you understand that we need this time no matter what in order to live up to the high expectations you've all placed on this game.
At the present, the new release date is "Spring 2012". While we can't say exactly when it'll be, we promise to have it released in this time.
Below are the chief causes of the release date delay.

(1) Game System Readjustment

We've been working on readjusting the "Senses Sympathy System", the original game system equipped with this game.

(Proceeds to give a short summary of the system. Check Interview Part 7 for a detailed explanation).

In order to make this system not feel unreasonable for gamers playing it, we're adjusting the game balance.
Also, in order to avoid feeling stressed out from operating it, we're revising the screen layout, the operation procedure interface, and so on.

We're not just aiming to create a novel system that's a fresh turn on "Visual novels with no choices", but because it also plays a very important role in the story's endgame.

(2) Map System Improvement

Currently, we're experimenting on a "optional map function that can confirm your current location" in the game.

Because the game is a story where the trapped characters keep moving to look for an exit, it's been planned that there'll be a map shown briefly when first trapped in LABO to gain an idea of the structure of the building.

But because there are many rooms in LABO, when we actually tried playing, we found that your current location moves more than expected, so as a result of fears gamers would get confused about where they were, we decided to try adding it.

So we're in the middle of trying to enhance the map function, upgrading the system so that you can bring it up whenever you want to check the protagonist's current location and LABO's state of affairs (places where fires are occuring, and indicating locations that can't be accessed).

Also, we're planning on creating an outside map- in other words, a city map that shows the protagonist's current location at times before they're trapped in LABO.

(3) Direction Adjustment

Other aspects include improving visual effects and presentation scheming, as well as striving to strengthen the scenario direction.

In short, we're working to develop an even higher-quality product.

To all gamers and staff, I sincerely appologize for placing a heavy burden on you all.

In order to satisfy everyone from the bottom of their heart by finishing up this work, I ask that you please give me some more time.
Root Double will definitely be released in "Spring 2012".

I haven't mentioned this earlier, but judging from the sketches in these sections, it seems like there's a portion of the game that will take place "Nine years ago" in 2021. I'll try uploading the sketches later.

It's actually been up for a while (after the annoucement that the game would be delayed), but I have indeed noticed some slight differences apart from the date change.

Apparently, the approximate playing time for Root Double will be announced soon, according to Nakazawa.

There's a demo announced for the game on Marketplace, release date unknown. Too lazy to type all the features, but it has full A route with bad endings, lower quality music and CGs, and other things.
