I thought them not having the ability to produce offspring with youkai isn't news. Remember that's the curse Kitsune put on the Nura clan, making the new generations weaker.
Though how this plays out... I don't know. It's becoming confusing who the host really is. |

I don't know where is getting that info that being half doesn't allow you to have children. It is Kitsune's curse that stops them from having children with youkai as mentioned already in both the Databook and hinted in the manga. Rikuo's and Tsurara's relationship is possible if the author wants it: you just need to find a way to break the curse.
And as Mizuno said already, this is old news. Quote:

Rihan is 300+ years old, youkais are 'adults' at 13.
Wakana is anywhere from late 20s to early 40s. There's.... sufficient amount of 'adulthood decades' in Rihan's life to have a woman or twenty before Wakana is even born.

It is possible that she is a reincarnation of Rihan's former wife, and Seimei resurrected her because she would be the perfect host for his mother, and as an aside, they used her to kill Rihan because he looked like his former-wife and thus dropped his guard.

I think we're getting close. Maybe we should think in lines of a homunculus rather than a perfect reincarnation? If she's the reincarnation, who gave birth to this host?
And what's left out in the translation is that Yamabuki Otome literally means "Kerria Maiden" and there's a Japanese waka about how the kerria flower grieving its inability to bear fruit... Now it all makes sense. Rihan fell in love with a youkai but because of Kitsune's curse, they cannot produce offsprings. Ayakashi can live for hundreds of years so Yamabuki Otome most likely didn't die of age but she took her own life due to her sorrow. Somehow Seimei was able to take advantage of Rihan's weakness and planned this whole orchestra to have him killed. |

Remember when people keep saying that somehow Nurarihyon is going to die which somehow will give Rikuo the boost to beat Gitsune? Remember how that never happen? Lots of people also keep saying that Gitsune will reveal that she killed Rihan and that Rikuo suddenly beat him in his anger like many other shonen heroes. Again, never happen.
Nuramago isn't exactly original, but doesn't mean it doesn't have it's fair share of subverting shonen tropes either. It's not really surprising if Rihan is dead |
