(L) D.Gray-man (Season 2)

Lesson for Guido, never judge the book by the cover.

I admit this episode was weak because resumed from where episode 66 left off, however, it produced a too taxing suspense on me that, after being tightly kept on my seat, I quickly developed goosebumps all over my legs as the unwelcomed guest was approaching like a furtive beast.

Seriously, the angst and suspense were well executed on episode 68 that fulfilled to become the best 'calm before the storm'.

There were several things that the anime addressed that weren't in the manga, and which happened in the former but did not for the latter.

I speculate that not all of the stuff addressed for this week was anime original per se. I suspect that the animation staff were advised or asked ideas from the manga-ka to D.Gray-man, Katsura Hoshino.
I theorize that the manga-ka wanted to go deeper about the things regarding Allen's cursed eye, his interaction with his Innocence, and how Mana played a crucial role about what Allen seeks. However, for any budgetary reasons, problems with the editor, time constraints, etc. he/she couldn't include in the manga at the time, therefore, found flexibility for the animation staff to do so in the anime.

What's important is that the training is now yielding results, although still not decisive at the moment. Partially, Fou succeeded at episode 66 to make Allen discover within himself his reasons to fight, which were reflected in this episode and lead to the discovery that those thoughts of his are producing a strong energy reaction on his Innocence; Allen at that moment got the gist that he was approaching the restoration of Innocence.

All went well until his cursed eye pulsated with pain and disrupted his focus. Bak was witness to that phenomenon, and from Allen's previous painful experience which his cursed-eye placed upon him told by the boy to the Asia head, Bak infered that the Akuma are calling out to the eye.

What I think is that the cursed eye is calling out to the Akuma. Allen commented that his cursed-eye is like a beast longing for its prey (Akuma). Then, the goosebumps on me went mad when Allen heard moans sounding as if someone was grieving or lamenting in deep sorrow.
Then, I unite the pieces to come with this new theory: what Allen's cursed eye does is communicating to Allen the cries of the soul damned inside the Akuma.

Allen didn't know what was happening when his cursed eye activated on its own repeatedly, but those cries for sure were the laments of the soul signaling that the Akuma existence was approaching closer.

The pain that his cursed eye brings him or leaving unattended his wounds did not stop Allen to resume his training, because he feels to be closer now than ever to resurrect his Innocence.

But what is preventing Allen from a full resurrection, even though he's now fully awared that his Innocence's power grows back stronger by him focusing on the thoughts of his precious comrades?

Let us take note that during Allen's travel into the depths of his mind talking with his Innocence, Mana's skull appeared again inside Allen's psyche and the doomsday dream of the end of the world scenario he shares with Lenalee as well.

Mana repeats to Allen those same words he spoke to the boy back in the Krory arc, "Let yourself fall into the world of light and darkness".

I think the message Mana gave to Allen back then and now is meant for something bigger; the key for him and his Innocence to walk together the same path in their quest to search that thing that both long for.

To me the world of 'light' that Mana spoke to Allen might refer to the world made up of Allen's precious friends.

The world of 'darkness', on the other hand, likely could be the world of sorrow and lament where the Akuma souls are trapped hinted by the cursed eye.

Likely, Mana refers that both Allen and his Innocence must fall into a deeper world below that of light and darkness in order for them to reach that thing they are searching; a world full of gray where the desires of both become one; a world inhabit by humans and Akuma alike.

If both Allen and Innocence accomplish that, their restoration will come.

My main three thoughts are,

-The expression on Fou's face. I guess i could say it looks as if she is going to die, though it's not a lot to go by.
-Allen's weapons. I can't help but think they look a lot like Fou's, though that doesn't mean the two have to be linked.
-And the title for episode 69, 'Old Friend'. The possibility here is endless.

Well, Fou has the ability to impersonate others, by taking on their appearance, let me just say there's more to Allen's weapons than meets the eye.

Yeah, the title could mean a restored innocence, amongst many others.

Interesting cause I was thinking somewhat the same. Whenever the word "light" appeared I kept thinking about allens friends and what is most precious to him. Likewise with darkness to me it is seriously hinting on something being related to the akuma, possibly the "trapped souls" you mentioned. Allen is still missing some "feelings" before he regain his weapon so what is hinted here is that he needs to go deeper into the light and DARK. So we know he has the light (his friends) now what about the dark - maybe his desire to save those trapped souls?

Do agree there is a slight chance the Allen we see in the preview is Fou. With the ability to take someone's form she may do it to draw the Akuma away. Since Allen did get pierced at the end of the episode which would be bad. Though it could be Allen since it did look like him so he's a legitimate option there.

Nothing to do, but wait for the episode and some answers.

Upon checking the series of shots displayed for the next week episode's preview I re-read again the respective manga chapter.

Indeed, the staff animated the last 2/3's of chapter 81 that remained, that translates about 12 pages of manga material, for episode 69.

Since the preview doesn't give away more new shots, it is hardly to tell if other chapters were adapted for next week.

However, what is sure is that the animation staff slowed down again the pacing for next week throwing my prediction off for that miracle to happen on episode 69.
Therefore, that miracle most likely will come at episode 70 just as DeathKillz predicted.

As mentioned earlier, a new arm is indeed on the way. If you ask me, it's more for show than anything else, judging from where the manga is going.

Lenalee's hair. Since I don't see any time skip coming, we can assume that she stays like this for the rest of the series?

Hmm, every Japanese site I've been to has this title as well, I think SHS translated wrong. It does certainly make more sense than "Old Friend"

Sub forums are determined by a series popularity and amount of post that thread receives in a certain amount of time. The mods make the call unfortunately, D.Gray-man is way past the time where it would have recieved one.
