(L) Yoru no Yatterman

Well, after get a few episodes of the original and 2008 Yatterman series under my belt, I watched this episode again and it was interesting the few nuggets that you realize once you get the background for the series as a whole.

Like, it was kinda funny that the song Dorothy shares with her daughter is actually the Yatterman theme song from the show.

The original series seemed very black and white as to who was good and who was evil, made with young kids in mind. However, I'm interested in seeing how they turn that on its head here.

As of the first episode it looks pretty black and white on its own, just with the imagery flipped.

That will probably change later on, but well.

I have to see how this series goes, I have to see how they explain how stuff happened. Yatterman was goofy heroes fighting goofier baddies, so to see it turned into this, I have to see how they explain it.

Maybe its a case of applying goofy anime logic to a semi realistic situation, as in the Yatterman think all stuff related to the Dorobo gang is bad becuase they're always the bad guys. Of course, it could be something different, specially since we started with the apocalypse and there seems to be agiant skull up in the sky...?

At least it doesn't look or feel as dark as casshern sins.

Well, actually this series even at the start is more complicated than most episode of the original series that I saw. In that one you actually get a reason why the heroes are becoming heroes or that there is some mystery as to why these once-heroes are evil, if they indeed are.

The original series premiere episode just had Gan and Ai jumping on a table and declaring that they would become heroes simply because it was a good thing to do. No lead up, no reason, just because. And the bad guys were conmen in there very first minute of screentime, no reason, no history, just "here are the three villains of the series" and that was it. Very simple, very black and white and for pretty young kids.

This series is already much darker and complicated by comparison, so we'll have to see how many of the elements from the original show are there and how much is going to change.

It's kinda funny that the song Leopard sings from her mother is actually the theme for the Yatterman that is basically all about taking down and destroying the Dorombo team's schemes.

I guess it's a good thing Leopard never learned the words.

Great show still. I like the OP song while our three main characters as the trio and their interactions are just so amusing to watch. I think these three can carry on the show with their chemistry together.

Oh and the craziness is still there with that amusing appeal. I'm even starting to like Doronjo a bit more than the first episode.

Well, this show officially got my approval by beating my expectations. I thought a good part of the show might be about them getting to that coast, but that got solved quickly. Then I thought the whole series would be about them comically getting owned by the yatterman, but nope, then the goddamn Yatter legion appeared, and despite the OP, I was surprised (thought the shadows thing would be more symbolic than anything). Something has obviously gone wrong in that world. This really feels like an adventure, and I'm following it.

My only concern now is that the new girl might take up a lot of screentime, seeing the ED (which by the way, is pretty good). I really wouldn't like a bait and switch given how likable the current crew is.

Also, I gotta say its a good thing the original series is so generic, because even if I haven't seen it, I can still recognize a lot of moments that just yell "old school" and "goofy villain group".

Well, that's a good excuse to be included in the story, I'd say.

Requiem-X: Yep, that's what I got too, based on the ending. While it still remains to be seen, what I'm seeing here is a legacy stolen. And if Dorothy really is what she is, then we have here the most supreme of ironies.

I wonder when a Dokurobe will appear. Also, judging by the OP, was the original Dokurobe responsible for the apocalypse (after which I guess everything went wrong) or was it someone else?

Never seen any of the old series so I have no clue whenever there might be a reference to something. That hug at the end was damn sweet though. Leop- I mean Doronjo-chwan!

Man, Yatter Kingdom totally is a disaster place. Like holy crap. I thought only our heroes would live so horrible but apprently even beyond the walls people eat Marple leafs and live in old ruins. o.O

Just where do those robots come from then? And why do they insist to keep them inside the walls? Just because of what their ancestors did?

Also that girl, Dorothy right(?), seems to be blind given the way she walked, touched the walls and how she felt Leopard's face and reacted to her voice.

Looks like she is a good person, hope she will help our trio. Who's gatchan though`?

Hope this one doesn't pass underrated until people start noticing it.

Watching it and liking it so far.

I already got spoiled a bit about Dorothy, and her brother.

Though the paraphernalia in Leopard's room as well as the way that the show is hammering home the visual similarities between Leopard's mother and Dorothy, meaning that this isn't a case of stylistic similarities the two of them are supposed to look alike, the song that Leopard's mother sings her makes me wonder if

Seems to be case, I'm afraid, at least around here. Remember, we also have Yuri kuma arashi and the grand return of Durarara! Glad I found out about this one early on, though I initially gave it a try just because of how much I liked gatchaman crowds.

On the photo in the house, we see a couple and a child.
I guess on the photo we see the wife (this woman), the husband (Gatchan) and their daughter (her Angel). Looking at the situation, their daughter had passed away and the mother broke. When she heard Leopardo's voice, she thought that Leopardo was her daughter (interestingly, she has the same VA as Leopardo's mom).

Also, after watching first two eps of Yatterman 2008...

Interesting ED. The OP features the Doronjo side, but the ED is Yatterman(?)-centered.
Anyways, the episode kinda felt slow at times when it tried... to build atmosphere? By showing random shots of the kingdom while playing BGM, but still great. As expected? The Yatterman from the previous episode were robots.
