Maybe she's like the Nemesis from the RE series.

Well, Episode 4 might start turning things around for Kyoukai no Kanata. It was a thrilling and intense watch for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

KyoAni finally delivered some truly great action scenes in this show, and we were treated to them throughout almost the entire episode! I also liked the characterization and personality on display in this episode. This was Mirai's best episode yet, and it was also a good one for Akihito. Some good revelations were made, and I think they did a lot to bind Mirai and Akihito closer together, and justify his lasting interest in her.

Even the humor in Episode 4 was pretty good, imo (probably because there was only little bits of it here and there, so it provided a welcomed lightening break in the tense atmosphere).

That sure was a feast for the eyes. Too bad the plot and characters were as bland and generic as usual. They even had the MC have a super powerful dark edgy side that he will probably learn to master later. At least I wasn't bored this week, so that's an improvement. Another positive is that they did well justifying Akihito's interest in Mirai, they do have more in common than I initially thought. Mirai was also less awful than usual, probably because the drama and action in this episode didn't give them the opportunity to shove down our throat how super cute ^_^ she is. I fully expect them to make up for that next week.

So she's gonna suddenly ambush Mirai again later and go "Mirai!" instead of "Stars!"

Lol Mirai got loot jacked. Reminds me of Diablo 2; guess she didn't alt + click fast enough lol. XD

So the bigger problem wasn't the hollow, but the MC? Like hollow can mindrape you to oblivion, but MC is like a walking nuke.

Overall, I like the action scenes, but the plot is meh. Sakura (now we know she's the imouto) came to kill Mirai, only to leave at the last minute for reasons unknown? WTF? Siscon guy and his troupe waiting for his big sis as reinforcement, but all she does is just stand on that tree? Uhm, sure. MC is an outcast like Mirai because of his half-youmu side? Ok...

It's Bleach all over again. Watching Kanbara rampage was like watching Ichigo try to to master his hollow powers.

In any case, that was some surprisingly quick thinking on Kanbara's part when Mirai was sliding down the escalator.

A crazy though just struck me. Could that old man at the end have been Kanbara's youmu's father?

It looks like Izumi took the Hollow Shadow stone in order to stall the Society of Spirit World Warriors. Stall them from what is the question. I'm guessing that they will make a move on Akihito at some point.

Maybe Akihito's fascination with glasses is what cooled him down in the end.

Maybe stall them from targeting Akihito? Izumi did stop that agent from the Society from making a move on Akihito.

I thought this was the best episode of the season. There was less hit-or-miss SOL comedy and more action scenes. I was doubtful after the last episode, but I'm definitely going to continue following this series.

Good animation continues but still don't care about much of everything else in the series.

The only thing I kept wondering throughout this episode... how could her glasses not fall off even once despite all the intense fighting? It's like they were glued to her face or something.

The glasses are red after all, maybe made out of blood!

I really don't understand why they had to fool Mirai and put things back on the status quo.

If Mirai had appraised the Hollow Shadow's core, Ayaka would have still received it, which in turn would still end up in the Nase family's hands since they're on the same side - away from the Spirit World Warriors.

No, he was clearly burning. Most likely Mirai used her blood covered body to weaken his youmu side.

I think you might be mistaking the Appraisal lady with Hiroomi/Mistuki's older sister? They're 2 different people. The Nase family probably has its own hidden agenda.

Hiroomi Nase was working with Ayaka, so she is on good terms with the Nase family at the least.

I suppose it is possible that Izumi and the elder do have their own plans though.

And no, I did not mix up Izumi and Ayaka.

Izumi had a very sinister smile the entire. They're definitely up to something.

It seems more and more lately that people are becoming "bitter veterans" who can't just watch shows for entertainment's sake. Not just here, but various anime-related forums I see a lot of callous attitudes.

I feel the same way at times too, but I always check myself by either deciding the show just isn't for me, or setting that voice aside in my head and just enjoying it on its merits. And of course there are a number of shows that are just "guilty pleasures" that I know are pretty bad, but are just rather fun to turn your brain off and watch. (IE: Yuushibu this season)

It's just "Chinese cartoons" people, smile smile

The Spirit Warrior Guild is like the Federal Government; Mitsuki's family is like a city-state within the Federal government. Mitsuki's family holds power locally, but they don't necessary like the Spirit World Warrior Guild coming in and tell them what to do. The gem is likely something Mitsuki's family intend to hide from the Guild and use for their own purposes.

Well, well. That was an interesting ep to be sure. So much was shown in this one ep that filled out the previous eps and hinted at a few other things. Long story short, I am glad I have stuck with this series. For me the action did not quite make as big an impression on me (though of course it was impressive) but neither did I come away feeling things were quite as nondescript as the previous eps' chara interaction showed at times.

Although I get a few glimpses of why they adopted the story-telling method they did, I am not so sure it was as effective thus far. However, I will wait until the series completes first, it has caught me enough to invest my interest.
