Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?
Wasn't little Ayaka's shadow kind of weird? I'll have to re-watch that scene later. Foreshadowing something there maybe...

They actually changed Ayaka's shadow -- in the manga, it was pretty obvious that there was a reptilian head where the end of her hair was supposed to be.

Also, funny how Dekomori seems to have disappeared, now that everything has actually fallen into place.

And here's an implication I'd like EVERYONE to consider while we're at it: with Kazane powerless and her shield down, normal people are now vulnerable to injury due to magical attacks.

The Workshop's system is more sophisticated than that.

Not to be spoilerific, let's say that it depends on the way they were actually protected.

Awesome dream sequence. Seems like kid Kagari got visited by present day (or future?) Honoka that sets up their reunion in school. But why do neither have memories of each other before? Gotta be an explanation. XD

As for the plot, it's kinda meh. After all the insanity of the previous episodes, blowing up the entire city with a 'bomb' seemed kinda, what's the word, mundane I guess? Although it is interesting how Kagari and Honoka will defeat Weekend without the use of magic, when just before they mentioned how a impossible it is for a normal person to kill a witch.

I was a little disappointed with this scene. Honoka's supposed to be ripped here. His great muscle definition is a plot point.

Spoiler for size:
Yup Atori blushed when she saw his packs too.

Witch Craft Works is definitely my Exceeded Expectations anime of Winter 2014.

Hopefully our 5 tower witches jobber will be able to shine in this arc.

Shine might be too optimistic they are jobbers. Maybe lowering the bar to glinting might be more realistic.

Nurse Kagari is one of the best things to ever happen in manga.

Ahem. Those glasses.

The nurse outfit is one thing, but those glasses give + 100000x points to whatever look she's going for.

Indeed, it's a pity that Honoka had a bit of a downgrade in terms of physique in the anime. I mean, others have already commented that he's actually good-looking enough; not to mention, I'm pretty sure Ayaka is perfectly ok with those abs.

It's just that he lacks presence most of the time, especially when he's right beside a tall school idol like Ayaka.

The abs in the manga were more like a joke rather than a testament to his abilities as a character. If he was portrayed to be a super strong fist fighter or someone that does work outs a lot or something of the sort, then yeah, it'll be off, but in this case no. I don't mind that JC Staff omitted that little detail, it's not a big deal, even if the manga does make a joke out of it later on.

From the author's own blog, here is what she had to say about physical vs magical durability of materials in WCW. Relevant as we just saw Ayaka and Honoka escape their cell.

http://blog.livedoor.jp/wcworx/?p=8
Quote:
The relationship between magical and physical:
In the WCW world, the more physically strong something is, the easier it is for magic to affect it. Conversely, the more magically resistant something is, the more fragile it is. Even though there are some rare exceptions, they are only of academic interests.

In the case of Diamonds, because it is a hard substance, magic can affect it with ease. You can magically slice and polish a diamond quickly, easily, and precisely. Diamonds are also really easy to enchant, and as such it is a popular ingredient for making Talismans/charms.
On the other hand, to be easily affected by magic means nearly no magic resistance, and can be easily destroyed magically.
This is why there are enchantments that can raise magic resistance.
Because physical resistance and magical resistance are almost mutually exclusive, there are limits to how they can be stacked. An object has the max capacity for 100% resistance. But if you give it 90% physical resistance, you are limited to only enchanting it with up to 10% magic resistance. And if you TRY to go above the limits the object would be destroyed.
Another point is that the resistance of the object can no longer be altered after you give it some other enchantment. So the resistance value of an object is always administered first before any other kind of magic crafting.
For something like a Diamond, with natural 97 physical resistances, you can only give it 3% magic resistance. And careless enchanting could accidentally go over 3% and destroy the gem. Thus most of the time people don’t bother and just enchant it with whatever they wanted. The enchanted diamond thus stays weak to magic for its lifetime.

Concerning the cape the Witches wear, they are tailored extremely well to be very durable, and then has magic resistance buff cast on them. In general the resistance value is 30% physical and 30% magical for the average witch cape.

For the extremely expensive witch garb, the more expensive they are the closer they are to the theoretical maximum of 100% resistance. Like 40% Physical and 40% Magical resistance. A 50/50 witch garb is EXTREMELY hard to produce, and require high quality craftsmanship.
Of course, there exists specialised anti-magic clothing with 10% physical and 60% magical resist. Those capes resemble Cardigans.

Very cool. I'll be trying to keep that info in mind. It's nice to see the intricacies/inner workings of how magic works in this setting get explained in more detail. Almost makes it sound real. hah

It certainly would be nice to have more lore-specific info about how magic works in the WCW universe. Sounds like the author has made some notes for personal use in constructing the setting of the story.

It doesn't have to go 'beyond the call of duty' like Nasu's works, but more stuff like this in the anime and manga would just further flesh out an already colourful universe.

I wonder - does Rinon's outfit offer more physical resistance?

decent episode.
things seem to be escalating for the final climax.

No idea why the 5 Workshop Witch Sentai was so rough with Honoka, couldn't they just be "okay, stay here and hide for a bit" instead of kidnapping them and not telling them anyway.

Still, these 5 seem to be way more dependable than the 5 tower witches counterparts lol.

I don't think Kagari is the type that will agree to hide in a hole. She will take the fight to the enemy. That's exactly what she is about to do at the end of the episode.

They weren't rough with Honoka. They pretty much just did tell him to stay put. They were rough with Ayaka. And Kasumi. Because they know exactly how sweet reason works with them.

Though they probably didn't need it with Kasumi. They should have just told her "we need to lock you in with your brother in a small, isolated room". She'd have gone along with that plan.

Well, Ayaka actually has reason to go and fight - she's one of the strongest Workshop Witches they've got aside for her mother, who can't engage in a full-on battle for a very good reason. She blows up the 'Big Boss', hooray, crisis averted and she can go back to her lovey lovey highschool life with her boyfriend. She is still thinking like a young girl in this respect.
