Seriously guys, not everything is a conspiracy. Hata mentioned around the time the movie came out that he was thinking of taking a vacation around New Years.
Also, the series is not in a sales slump in Japan. At all. If anything it's the opposite. The series sold almost 2 million in volume sales just in 2011. Looking over the sales charts every volume release in the last year and half or so pretty reliably sells about 250,000+ copies in the first two weeks. This is very good and better and then a number of well known series. It reliably sells more then Negima, for example. By comparison in the first half of 2009 when we had the Golden Week arc in the manga and the second season of the anime on the air the series sold a total of about 380,000 volumes. It was less popular then. (Not saying Golden Week was unpopular. Not at all! But the manga has never sold better then it is now, possibly barring when it was brand new.) The movie made a lot of money, and that's why we're finally getting a third season. (Season two....didn't do that well, comparatively.) Hell, the movie bundle sold over 65,000 copies in the first week. That's pretty darn good, considering. Sorry, I'm not saying you can't criticize because it makes money or anything like that. Just pointing out that HnG is pretty much the opposite of struggling right now, at least in Japan. The series fanbase is looking pretty secure, even though I'm sure it has it's grumblers over there, too. ANYWAYS, I'm pretty curious to see what "Weekly" HnG is going to be about, especially since we also have "Colorful" HnG launching in Shonen Sunday Super in two weeks or so. *Facts and Figures are from comparing dozens of different sales charts and articles on ANN. |

That said, I'll place my bet that the "special issue" when Hata gets back from hiatus will be announcing the release date for the third season a month before spring season starts. |

2012 Resolution: Give Hayate no Gotoku a miss. I doubt anything important will happen in the forty or so chapters that will be released this year, and I'm tired of speculating. See you guys in 2013!

When the animation of a theatrical movie is clearly worse than the TV series, it means something. |

This news about the studio for the third season was like two years ago or something... There might be a post somewhere here...

The movie animation was the closests to the original manga design (right now).
I agree that animation wise its the least impressive but I think that the style manglobe used for the movie fits the Hayate series well. Its not like manglobe cant animate, I mean look at the production values TWGOK anime got in comparison. At any rate I just want to see Athena animated already!
