But honestly I would be really really surprised if this isn't related to the epitaph. After all Ep4 strongly hints that.

Ultimately that bit (along with many other small details) is the mystery of EPISODE4.

Just cause, I decided to just write up random details again.

Spoiler for Ideas on culprits EP 1-4:

Omitting Kinzo as a culprit cause he has been confirmed dead.

Episode 1. Since their deaths are not confirmed. All of the first twilight are up for suspicion (Krauss, Rudolf, Kyrie, Rosa, Shannon, Gohda).

Episode 2. The first twilight deaths are confirmed. Massive confusion

Episode 3. All of the servants die , Battler deduces that one of the 6 placed 5 bodies and then died by accident.

Eva is one of the culprits (she is implicated in Rosa's and Maria's death)

And then whoever kills Nanjo is later deduced to be Rudolf, Kyrie, Krauss or Natsuhi (cause their deaths were not instantly confirmed)

Episode 4......massive confusion.

There are a pletora of different theories but you could group them into four main categories:

Natural disaster: landslide, hurricane, earthquake, volcanic eruption, and so on.

Trap: Timed bomb, poison (which was already given to Battler but with a delayed effect), and anything on that line.

animals or other non human entities: although this was denied in episode3 it was never said that it applies to every game. Since it is impossible that Battler is the only living being in the whole island, obviously when Beatrice said that he was "alone" she meant to say that he was the only human being on the island. Which mean animals can still be there.

metaphorical interpretaton: Madness, belief, love, despair and anything of the sort has been speculated to be the "Beatrice" that kills Battler. This however would be a play on words. Battler practically would kill himself, but in a metaphorical sense you could say that he died from the aforementioned things. So if you call them Beatrice, "Beatrice is not Battler", "Beatrice killed Battler" can still apply

That should be in the next episode when Rosa accuses the servants of killing Kurasuma and Nanjo, and Battler can't suspect anyone and finally accepts the witch. And I don't think it's necessary to use spoiler tags in a marked spoiler thread.
