I am personally not even going to bring Space Dandy into this because the main focus of this show is not going to be comedy, so why should I bother making comparisons? Same creator, yes, but the shows are on different ends of the spectrum.
With that being said, this looks and sounds AWESOME. Definitely watching the heck out of this when it airs.

I always felt most of the undeserved hate for Space Dandy came from people who'd convinced themselves from the start that it was going to be Cowboy Bebop v2.0 before so much as a minute had aired.
If you look at Watanabe's track record, he's a guy who doesn't repeat himself. This in my opinion is a GOOD thing. I really loved his last Noitamina show (Sakamichi no Apollon/Kids on the Slope), and I'm expecting this to be as good but different given the plot matter. Looking forward to it. |

I only brought up Space Dandy because it's Watanabe's most recent work and my biggest disappointment of the season. I guess I needed to vent off a bit. I'm not all that worried about this show, based on the synopsis alone, it should be radically different from Dandy. The main problem with Dandy is that the humor is very hit or miss, and that the episodic nature of the show means the quality is uneven. There are some episodes I love (the minority, unfortunately for me), and others I really hate. I'm disappointed because I think its premise had a lot of potential, and that they're mostly squandering it on meaningless stuff (there is SO MUCH they could do). I tend to like experimental anime, but this one definitely hasn't clicked with me.
I'll stop here, I don't want this thread to get off-topic.

However, look at the background of the poster, do the two burning Tokyo Metropolitan Government (I think) towers remind you of something? As per some other people's comments, If they do release an English dub, I think they will have to edit that poster, namely removing the two burning towers reminiscent of 9/11. |

I hope this'll be one of the summer animes that keeps my life bright, shinning, and interesting.
Edit: Did Yoko Kanno ever do anything in the same vein as the ambient choral piece that plays at the end of the teaser?

Funimation streaming in the US.
Wakanim streaming in the UK. If anyone remembers them given they've had nothing this season. |
