The short answer:
I would guess Hinagiku, having a fear of heights and being the smart student council president, would call for help.


The likely technical answer:
After getting some help, one of the rescuers would anchor one end of a rope to a solid object and tie the other end around his waist. Then, like one of those rescue operations, go down, get hold of Katsura and have the other members of the rescue team haul them up. Hayate would likely be rescued in the same manner.

Or someone could take a really long ladder and go up to rescue them. Or inflate a really large air balloon on the ground for them to drop down on.


The anime answer:
Or Hayate, being the super butler, would rescue himself and Katsura by flipping back into the balcony (it's an anime, so silly realistic operations doesn't apply to him).

Personally, I'm more surprised whenever he fails to do something (like catch Hinagiku from the tree) than I am when he does impossible feats of strength and agility.

The scene here is a parody of patlabor episode 38, but the mangaka parodies it so it doesn't even look like it's a parody. So what happens in Patlabor ep 38? A group of people go into the underground to look for missing people and they encounter hundreds and hundreds of rats. One girl faints and one of the guys ends up carrying the girl on his back. The search party who are lost themselves eventually finds the missing people who are just wondering around.

Well, the fight in the haunted house (obviously), not Hayate's training "for Hinagiku's sake", unfortunately.

I'm curious if they will somehow reuse this scene later. It was the first very clear sign of Nagi jealousy towards Hinagiku (and very funny to boot).

Then again, they might. Since they could follow up with Nishizawa afterwards (the last frontline character waiting for a decent introduction)...
