Recommendations: Fantasy

Provide your recommendations for anime, manga, light novels, web novels, visual novels, games, and other media within the genre: Fantasy!

These should be works that you've experienced personally and would like to recommend to others. No "troll" recommendations, or non-recommendations in this thread. For longer series, you don't necessarily need to wait until the whole work is finished before recommending it, but please at least wait until you've at least experienced enough of it to make a good judgement.

Please don't just post a list! You don't need to do a full review, but for each title you suggest, please also consider providing:
  • The full title
  • The author, studio, or other information that will help identify the work
  • A brief explanation of the setting and premise (no spoilers!)
  • A brief summary of why you like it and/or why you think others might like it
  • How much of it you've experienced (particularly for longer series)
  • Other works that it reminds you of, if applicable
  • A link to a review you wrote on our site, if applicable
  • Any other information that might help someone know if they should give it a shot
You may optionally post a few images if it helps, but please use thumbnails, and/or place it inside an [images] tag. Most third-party image hosting sites will provide a feature to copy/paste BBCode that uses thumbnails.

Please DO NOT post links on where to illegally download/stream/view the work you're recommending.

Again, for the purposes of this thread, please avoid all spoilers or hints that may ruin surprises in the plot, and absolutely no flaming another person's recommendations. If you see any problematic post, please report it so the moderators can review and take any needed action.

Title: Mushishi
Author:Yuki Urushibara
Studio: Artland

From the first perspective it seems tha mushishi is boring considering the setting of the anime, which is like from early years in japan. The setting and atmosphere is too serene and quiet that's why for some people, its boring but thats where they are mistaken. Diving in the world of the creatures called Mushi and how they were interacting in the daily lives of people, you will see an immense colorful world on different interaction not just between Mushi and Mushishi, but also between people's relationship with each other. Story of despair and hope, sadness and joy, and every emotions you would see in a person are all present in this once in a lifetime gem. This show can be watch together with your relatives considering the moral values you can get from diferrent episodes.

Mushishi is one of the diamonds when it comes to anime and I recommended it at the uppermost level of my list.

So we're going to get old-school here... and by old school, I means 90's level old-school.

I know the series is based off light novels, but I couldn't tell you the author. However, find a way to watch the original three season of SlayerS (The slayers, Slayers Next, and Slayers Try). This is practically the definition of swords-and-sorcery, plus a good chunk of comedy that makes it work.

Do be forewarned that many of the jokes don't translate well when compared to today's anime (such as the running gag of how Lina has a small chest), but if you need a series that has plenty of sorcery, excellent action, and save-the-world-from-godlike-threats, then Slayers is a good place to start. Or at the very least, watch the first Slayers movie.
