I actually felt the same thing regarding the OP after ep 02 - seems it may be growing on me as well. ^^

Well...Shione. Faces like this isn't going to make you friends. Anyways, the bigger revelation is at the end of the episode although I can't say I'm too surprised by it.

I had a bit of trouble getting behind this episode. Mostly since the memories of these characters seems incredibly frustrating. I get that as kids memories are going to be iffy, but it just seemed silly here for some reason. Maybe because they really don't look that much older.

Did this saucer start launching missiles and level the town when I wasn't looking? Being angry at its existence seems really weak still. And yeah Shione let's be mad at someone who clearly doesn't know what you are talking about despite the fact that zero of your friends remembered or put the pieces together either.

Kind of feels like we've spent way too much time just getting to such an obvious point. Obviously Noel was connected to the saucer and obviously these are her friends from childhood. Couldn't we have just done this last week?

Ep.3

We get a confirmation that all Nonoka's friends never met Noel and Nonoka is not the only person who can see Noel.

The drama starts to get heavy but it shouldn't drag out too long. Actually, if this drama are clear, I wonder what direction the show will go next.

We still don't know the actual reason why some of Nonoka's friends have to be so mad at her. If the reason is purely "She moved away without telling us" then it is easy to understand but insted, what they are implying is "We hate Nonoka because she made us called the saucer and move away" Is calling the saucer require something that make it hard to do??? Why did they do it in the first place???

These questions make me want to watch more~

Seven years are long time. If you haven't seen someone that long, it's easy to forget them. I barely remember the face of my classmates who I haven't seen for 1-2 years. I feel bad about it because they can remember me clearly but I almost can't remember them.

Also, "I can't remember x person is my childhood friend" and "Lost memory" plot have been done many time in fictional story. You shouldn't be surprised by it now. Just accept it, even if it sounds silly.

About the saucer, I guess we need to watch more to understand the full story.

This episode seemed to go slowly, but by the end the way the emotions built up was satisfying for me. Of course, the reveal was not much of a reveal, since I had guessed a connection from the start. The timing was interesting, however.

Shione's harsh anger seemed over the top, but just barely within the realm of possibility, since she had spent the past seven years regretting what they had done, and blaming Nonoka for that and for leaving. But it appears Shione's feelings were stronger because she still harbors affection for Nonoka, past and present (the photo on her bulletin board).

In real life I think their memories could easily have been this vague, so that didn't bother me.

I like both the OP and the ED.

Ep 03

Wow. I was right - my guess rate for teensy bits of story progression is abyssmal, too. Guess I got lucky.

Noel reveals at the end of the ep that she is indeed the disc in the sky. Mid way through the ep they showed in hovering above the city and I thought to myself "Wow - that thing is frikkin HUGE". Then when Noel finally says that she IS the disc I thought "Wow - Noel herself is frikkin huge...."

Yep, I agree - in real life memories can indeed be that vague. I would even say easily.

As far as I understand the reason Nonoka gave in this ep for wanting to call the saucer in the first place (something she and Shione had apparently read in a book somewhere) was something similiar to having a "last, final, memorable experience" since her time with her friends was numbered due to her family needing to move back to Tokyo to better care for her Mom's poor health. There may be more to it, but that was all that has been trickled out to us thus far.

As for the reasons the anger of Nonoka's childhood friends...

Shione's case is not quite as clear to me at the moment, but from what I can gather her bad reaction may be partly due to the fact that she is alone a lot due to family situations - remember at the beginning of the ep where she was talking on the phone with someone? (I assume it was her parents there.) Shione could be one of those people who gets extremely attached to very few people, but when she does she "grasps them to her breast with hoops of steel". To have that betrayed may give some occasion for the intensity of her anger. But in her case I have a feeling there is more going on that may be revealed in later eps.

Yuzuki is another issue, I think, as I mentioned in my initial post above after seeing the second ep. In that ep we saw that she was troubled by something else, and as best I could make it out it might be related to her losing her childhood closeness to her twin brother Souta (and perhaps by extension even her family and what she felt to be happiness and stability in general).

Remember in ep 2 when she was in her closet looking for "a weapon", stumbled across the photo album, and began quietly looking through it with a happy smile on her face? And remember later on in the ep when she was fuming with anger and stomping on the pier while calling her brother an idiot, saying that he "didn't get it" after he told her to stop what she was doing? Both these hint to me of her frustration of her current separation from Souta and she clearly blames the disc's appearance for this.

Oh yes, we also now know that in ep 2 Yuzuki was referring to Nonoka herself as "that girl" who "ruined everything" in her eyes. "That girl" meant the one who proposed the idea to call the disc in the first place.

Now that the cat is out of the bag for many characters (though everyone is not on the same page yet) it will be interesting to see where things go from here. We haven't been given a peek in Koharu's family or daily circumstances yet, nor those of Yuzuki's twin brother Souta. Interestingly, both Koharu and Souta seem well disposed to the whole phenomenon of the disc being therein general, so we may get some different angles on things.

As expected, the OP is beginning to grow on me, but the ED is not working. The first half of the ED works, but then somehow it "goes elsewhere" for me.

Something that I have to get out of the way first, but the stretch from about 5:30 to 5:38 with the revolving scenery reminded me of this Youtube video.

Anyway.

Sora no Method's a show I'm coming to enjoy more with every passing episode, and I was a big fan to begin with. Shione's anger didn't seem unrealistic to me, mainly because that sort of instability could easily be believable depending on her backstory (and it's basically a given that a nice girl turned bitter kuudere is going to have a flashback or two to explain the change); I know people with anger issues that eclipse what she displayed in this episode about a thousand times over. And I did love the "and now for our promise" part. The moment Nonoka slipped up and called her Shione-san, I wondered if she was going to carry out the slap or not.

I liked the old, abandoned school bus; very pretty and poignant image, makes me wonder about its relevance and history. And Nonoka looks nice in that blue sleeveless shirt she's wearing in the Next Episode preview.

Yeah, this episode pretty much frustrated me for the same reason. People jumping to their own conclusions and getting angry at someone without even telling them why, just...ugh. Ridiculous.

From what I can gather, Shione is pissed that Nonoka doesn't remember her. That, and/or Shione's upset that Nonoka brought down this saucer and almost immediately after left town, leaving everybody else in the town to deal with her decision. It's kind of like making a big mess, and then immediately running away from it leaving other people to deal with it. Not cool.

This much I can kind of understand, and sympathize with, especially since I get the impression that Shione and Nonoka were very close friends when they were very young. It also looks like Nonoka leaving town was rather sudden, and that while Nonoka tried to give Shione a heads-up about that, she sort of allowed Shione to get the wrong impression of Nonoka's words instead of making it crystal clear. Shione may well be heartbroken over this all, and just hiding it all behind a harsh kuudere mask.

Nonoka doesn't deserve the seething hate she's getting from Shione, but I can understand it at least.

That being said, I hope they don't drag on the Shione/Nonoka hostilities for most or all of the show. There were moments I found it slightly exasperating in Episode 3, and I could see myself tiring of it quickly if it isn't resolved, at least to some degree, by Episode 6 or so.

I can't deny that there could be a significant component of sentiment involved, but somewhere around the eyecatch of this episode I began to get interested. I waited for so long for another Hisaya Naoki series and maybe I just don't want to give up on it when we finally got one, but there was some sort of "click" for me this week and I'm not even sure why.

This episode was dragged quite a bit in the first half, and I got kind of tired of it but I'm glad that I managed to watch it till the end. The reveal by Noel wasn't that much of a reveal, but for some reason I was moved, a lot. I don't know why but the timing there was just perfect, we got flashbacks here and there, coupled with Shione's tsuntsun and bam there came Noel's final reveal! They couldn't have done this better!

It's funny coz I like the ED a lot, but the same can't be said for the OP. Being a big fan of I'VE I tried to listen to Larva Stage lots of time, even their other songs prior to this anime, but the 2 girls' voice just couldn't work for me. fhana is on the other hand possesses more potential as a singer, plus her music is quite original even among anime singers these days (though I like Chochou better).

I really want to appreciate this show for what it is, I really do. BUT after episode 3, I really have trouble to relate with any characters whatsoever, save perhaps Nonoka to some extent.

Besides the painfully recycled "amnesia" plot device, I'm also on the same pages than people wondering what's the big deal with the saucer.
Thus far, the series didn't exactly do a good job when it comes to actual reasons to be disturbed by its presence, and Yuzuki's behaviour is hardly anything reasonable when it comes to her tantrum, moreso proved by inhabitants not even batting an eye to that.

It would be fine if it was just a mere tantrum... but considering how ep2 and ep3 went, Yuzuki is pretty serious about that, which completely deny any possible way for the audience to see her point, let alone empathize with her crusade.
The same could be said for Shione who is portrayed as a very unforgiving girl to the point it is ridiculous. Whether or not Nonoka is really at fault here doesn't exactly justify Shione's actions, and the absolute lack of monologues or perspective from her just worsen this impression of "unjust jerk attitude", despite it is quite obvious she adored Nonoka which would in turn transform her the moment she felt utterly betrayed.

At least, episode 3 addressed what's the deal with Noel (albeit precictable from miles away), so the plot might actually move on.
But I sure hope the heavy drama won't be shoved any deeper than it was already, because it is close to be ridiculous at this point.

The comments were not meant as a criticism of individual artists in their own right - of course fhana and choucho are excellent singers! ^^

For me anime OP and ED are tricky things because they are a independent creatures, but at the same time I think (and look at them as if) they are meant to be part of a final product, in a way. I guess for me I was commenting on how the individual pieces of music (and sometimes the instrumental and audio aspects of the music are different in their overall effectiveness!) in the OP and ED harmonized first with the visuals in those portions and then how that total sum was effective in creating and/or contributing to the overall impression of the series as a whole.

The visuals themselves of the OP and the ED fit plenty fine for me - and the audio accompanying the visuals in the OP are beginning to weave more and more into the overall image the series is creating in my mind. But at this point the audio of the ED, and in particular the second half of the ED, is not fitting in the overall end product the series is creating somehow.

Different people look at, evaluate, appreciate or criticize such things in different ways, of course, and each person has their own individual tastes in music to begin with as well - but anyway, that was the context I was speaking from.

My bad if the previous comment came across as a criticism. Just voicing my thoughts and preferences that's all. Of course I respect anyone who takes singing as a career, especially when it's anime related.

No worries, no worries. I have been assembling and going over the OPs and EDs of all the series I have watched (and am watching at present) over the past year and have been pondering them in the sense of a "best of 2014" kinda way, so that kind of mulling over things is in my "short term memory" so to speak. ^^

Ep.4

The drama is strong in this ep. Poor Nonoka. Yuzuki turned into the total bitch toward Nonoka now...I swear I can hear Shione thought "JUST AS PLANNED"

At least there are still some light for Nonoka. I'm glad to see that Souta and Koharu don't mind much about the past and don't mind talking with Nonoka.

This show seems to be the type of show that prefer to develop the story and the characters with the drama. It likes we are in the same situation with Nonoka who wonder what the hell happening around her. I dont mind if we are going to find the answer along with Nonoka.

Look like Nonoka first quest is to befriend with Yuzuki again then go to do something about Shione. After that, I assume we will finally get the happy time.

Ep 04

Yes...pretty strong drama in this one. Especially for Yuzuki. Her anger and hatred of the disc is so intense that it really does border on not making sense, but it seems it is not just tied to losing her closeness to her twin brother but also something else - my guess is that brief flashback of her as a young girl standing outside...what...a hospital room or something?...may have a big part in things as well. Fireworks seem to be an "easy to hang the coat on" external event that was typical of something bigger. Perhaps after whatever happened she hoped for comfort from Souta somehow but it was not coming for whatever reasons.

Hmm...lots still unclear, but what is clear is that Yuzuki is hurting, has been hurting for a long time, and is a mess - and Nonoka's arrival is beginning to be a catalyst for the whole basket to be brought to a point of decision, hopefully in this case resolution.

Souta is in a completely different place, it seems...and I haven't been able to get much of a read on him. It is possible that he was also strongly affected by the hospital thing after Nonoka left, but that he adopted a detached "what happened happened, I have to move on" type of approach that effectively just swept the reality of the impact of the event under the rug for him, rendering him unable to really help his sister, yes, but also unable to sympathize with Yuzuki's angry fist shaking at what happened and putting all the blame on the disc.

Koharu is really stuck between a rock and a hard place in the midst of it all. As a long time childhood friend of both of them she tried to support Yuzuki in her pain in what small ways she could - perhaps more than anything else in assuring her she was not alone in the world. She gets along with both of them, and can perhaps sympathize and disagree with aspects of how both of them responded to whatever happened, but realizes she can not really do much more other than "be with them" to some degree. Add the fact that her family's business is a souvenir shop based on the disc's existence and things get even more complicated, as she has her responsibilities to her family, the store, etc.

By way of guessing...I wonder whether or no the arrival of the disc (if the snippet of what I assume to be it crashing into the lake in the ED is showing exactly that) or something it did shortly after it's arrival caused some sort of accident - something like freaking out someone while they were driving somewhere, and those who were involved in calling down tne disc felt terribly responsible and angry at Nonoka for just "up and leaving" or something like that?

If the scenario is like that (and especially if the one(s) involved in the accident were directly related or directly close to any of the other four of the kids still in town) then the current seemingly irrational anger and behaviors would make lots more sense, I think....
