Hence why you substitute it slowly, but as quickly as possible at the same time .

I guess you haven't received "the talk" yet. Well, in place of your parents, I will give you "the talk" about how these sort of things work.

In the great Planet Take-A-Penny-Leave-A-Penny, there exists a magical kingdom filled with to the top with non-profit organizations. In the outskirts of this magical region there exists a realm called "Peer-To-Peer". Now, in this realm exists two opposing forces: the sharers and the leechers. The sharers, quite possibly the most underrated beings on Planet Take-A-Penny-Leave-A-Penny, had a small dispute with the leechers. You see, all this time the sharers were quite happily helping everyone in the Peer-To-Peer realm, but then the leechers began taking the sharers for granted and demanded more from them.

As time passed, the leechers continued to corrupt the country and converted sharers to their side, stealing from those that were once their own brethren. More time passed and the amount of sharers diminished because leechers were converting them faster than they could multiply. Thankfully, some of the leechers were not entirely converted and actually gave back to the community, though not much. The sharers, always a proud organization, were still more than happy to supply the leechers with the goods they requested even though their numbers were decreasing. Unfortunately, due to the sheer number of leechers, the sharers could not meet the demand.

And yet, the leechers never learned a valuable lesson out of all their time on Planet Take-A-Penny-Leave-A-Penny; they never learned that they were acquiring things slower from the sharers because they themselves didn't share. What they also didn't realize is that all leechers have small penises. The end.

On the next episode of boney tells a story...

how babies are made...

I'll have to agree with boneyjellyfish there, if everyone took advatage of the low upload cap of bittorrent, it would go slow as hell for everyone. I appreciate people that upload and I usually leave it open and at least get 1-1 ratio before I close it off. We all need to chip in if we want this Peer to Peer things to work right.

I used eMule for alittle bit but most people but I found myself with 10 things waiting to download while I was uploading like 6 things. 3 hours later when I came back, it still have 10 things waiting to start downloading and I had uploaded like 20 some files so I wasn't very impressed with it.

DC++ is good if you have good connections and a spot in a dignified hub. Bittorrent is the way I usually get my files.

I would also write a retarded story but sadly i cant

Asymetric connection = very low upload for huge download
Sadly enough on DC++ getting a *slot* is very long so I usually end up losing days of computer usage trying to download stuff because if I cap my upload to a reasonable rate (so I can surf the web or play games or something) I automaticly get banned from the hubs. Not to mention than after getting what I want I have horrible ratio dl/ul 1/10, so for each tiem i wait in line on a stupid queue slot to get a stupid 1gb files of anime I upload 10gb to other people monopolizing my connection.

Now well take a completly different system, Bittorent. With bittorent I can cap my upload so I can do stuff, no queues! and share as long has i want because it has no effect on my connection.

So now except of acting like a retard, maybe you could have thought for 2sec that I wasnt saying that uploading to others was my problem, but that the way the software worked didnt respond to my needs. Of course not like a jellyfish with trained cats typing for him could have thought of that

Who told you about the cats?! Was it you, Oneesama? *stare*

*sigh* I guess you just couldn't handle the penis comment, huh? Look, if you want to be a happy little leecher and you can't get your fix from DC++ then DON'T USE IT. Meanwhile, if you want to contribute to the decline of BitTorrent by capping your upload, then do that too. The "theoretical" upload bandwidth on my cable modem is 128kbps, but if I upload any more than 80kbps (these measurements are in bits, mind you), then my connection becomes slower than a er... really slow thing.

In eMule, I have my upload capped at 75kbps, which is pretty much absolutely the highest amount I can upload before my connection craps out. In fact, I've tried to go higher than that but my bandwidth actually caps a little bit higher (theoretical bandwidth my ass). Unfortunately, my connection still gets pretty crappy even though I set it under my limit, but there isn't any difference at all between the slowdown I get at 15kbps and 75kbps. They're equally slow.

In bittorrent, I always set my cap to the same limit. I choose NOT to contribute to the decline of bittorrent because of the new clients that allow people to cap their upload rates. Sure, you can share as long as you want, but how much are you sharing? 5KB/s? If you can't respond to me in the form of a narrative, then I don't think it'll be worth reading.

So, if we follow your opinion, people on crap 80kbps like me should go to hell?
I personally can't get my upload over 10kb/s or else my connection become crappy, that's how my DSL is : max download aroung 60-65kb/s and max upload around 15-20kb/s.
Not everybody has a ubber connection which let them upload like 1MB/s or anything ; there are also very low uploaders that can't do anything about it.

My connection caps at around 87-90kbps, and if I use anything at all above 60 my downspeed goes from about 3Mbps to about 700kbps. However, a good amount of people just get their upload speeds really low for the sole purpose of downloading something really quickly. I'm not talking about 10KB/s (30kbps), I'm talking about 3-5KB/s. I think 10KB/s should be about as low as the cap should be, but it goes down to 3 in BitTornado and I think you can pretty much almost entirely get rid of upload in Azureus.

My connection is FAR from uber, and I doubt yours or Imazul's are much worse.

Edited because Upper/Lower case B's ô.o

I think mine is smiliar to thany's.

I'm using a halfspeed capped DSL with even lesser upload speed.
So i have maximum of 96KB/sec download OR 16KB/sec upload ratio... its 1 channel, so if i upload 16KB/sec, i can't download. If i download 96KB/sec i can't upload.

I'm still using a very old original BT that determines the bandwith on its own .. i usually end up sharing 6KB/sec - 12KB/sec, while downloading with 60KB/sec ... my connection goes dead at that speed, IM programs randomly disconnect, it takes hours to load a webpage and so on ... so i only use bittorrent to download overnight.. most of the times i close em once i get up/get out of school ( still it means that it runs like 4 hours - 8 hours while only sharing )

I usually like DC++ , with a good shared amount and the right hubs i get pretty good results, so yeah, i'm constantly sharing thou ( at low speed usually - because my bandwith does not allow more.. i have it capped at 12KB/sec upload in DC++ which is more than fair, compared that its like 80% of my total bandwith )

Edit: And reading that you have 3mbps / 1MB/sec downstream maximum -- ours is MUCH worse ( 96KB/sec ...haha.. )

I have my maximum upload on BT to about 20kbs when I am downloading and 70kbs (if it can reach that high, normally only reaches about 50kbs) when I am not downloading. See, I am good little anime-sharing boy!

I think you're mixing up a kbps and KBps. Lowercase "b" means bit, uppercase "B" means byte. The THEORETICAL maximum of my downstream is 3Mbps, or 1MB/s. However, I usually only get a maximum of around 200KB/s (average download speed on BT is about 20KB/s). On the other hand, the THEORETICAL upstream max on my connection is 128kbps (roughly 40 KB/s), but the actual cap is around 80kbps (about 24KB/s)

Heheh, well that's the eternal free rider problem. Thankfully humans are blessed with foresight (well sometimes....just look at the environment) but I'm getting OT.

I recommend WinMX and signing up for the AnimeFantasia server. There's some good old stuff and raws. That was my primary source of unlicensed anime pre-BT. When you've been using it for a while, you get to know which users have faster uploads with your connection.

I wouldn't bother with Kazaa or Kazaa-lite. Too much stuff I don't care to download like music and movies are there, and not enough anime. Not to mention Kazaa has a bad rep with spyware and its well known by companies to be the P2P program of choice. In other words, you're more likely to get caught using Kazaa. Through my university's piracy police system for example, virtually all students caught downloading music/movies were using Kazaa. (Though WinMX is also fairly well known. ) There's not much anime there anyway so don't bother with it.

Are you sure you got it right yourself? As far as I know it's
8 Bit = 1 Byte, Ratio 8:1

Taking your numbers:

~3000Kb/s = ~1000KB/s, Ratio 3:1
whereas it should be:
~3000Kb/s = ~375KB/s

Something smells fishy here ^_^;;

Edit: PriestessK, KLR did not solve the problem with fake files. It appears that KLR is < KL overall. Heck, I just got redirected to a porn site by starting KLR. >_>

Whoops! Yeah, for some reason I thought 3bits = 1 byte. That just makes my upspeed look even more pathetic.

128kbps upspeed... that would certainly explain why my computer explodes when I get above 25KB/s. Alright, so rather than go back and change all of the numbers I put up before, I'll just let everyone eventually come down to this post.

Excellent work! You've managed to go completely off on a tangent instead of addressing the real issue: you complained about being "forced" to share more than you downloaded. When I said it's better to share than leech, I was attacked.

I never should have tried to be creative.

Anyway, since I'm already this far into it, I might as well keep going.

By this comment, which is in no way taken out of context or misquoted, it's blatantly obvious that you don't like how you share more than you download. Nowhere to I see you saying that the software didn't respond to your needs. From the very tone of your posts in this page, I can't help but think of you badly. Each one of them has attacked me personally and failed to address any of my points. Also, you seem to be taking offense to EVERYTHING I say, which I see as problematic since I didn't accuse you of anything until you made a personal attack on me. Also, despite what I asked of you, you didn't respond to any of my posts in the form of a narrative. *blows whistle* Lack of narrative, 10 yard penalty, repeat 3rd down!

I apologize for assuming that you had a low cap on your upload, but I only did so because the mere tone of your posts led me to believe they reflected your actual behavior. I don't feel like I need to argue against you with regards to your last post because, well, it's completely irrelevant to the topic at hand. Are you a sharer or are you a leecher? Do you run BT to seed for people, or, if it finishes in the middle of the day, do you stop it immediately so you can get back to normal speed?

ay ay , you win, happy

I dont argue with stupid people, and you did a personnal attack first

If you cant stand other people opinions or point of view, then you probably have a problem

Like you could have tryed asking why I didnt like how the download/upload system worked in DC++ and why do I end up uploading more then downloading instead of generalizing(is that a word?).

Edit:why did I even bother, arguing in this forums is toattly pointless since most of you dont have the ability to see beyond their own opinions.
