Despite this being a comedy, I find the friendships between the main characters to be surprisingly... substantial? I think the bad personalities of the characters (especially Kazuma) is the reason for this. The novel has to constantly justify "why are these guys actually friends?". In a normal harem anime (e.g. Asterisk Wars) the main character is a nice likeable guy, it's much easier to accept.

Following on from that, I'd have a lot of trouble accepting either a Darkness or Megumin end. I think if he chose Darkness then it would be really awkward for Megumin to keep partying with them, and vice versa. It would break up their friendship.

So yeah, I'm not accepting anything less than a Kazuma X Darkness X Megumin end. I'll also take a harem ending.

I doubt he would pick anyone, despite being interested. Most likely like the web novel, the series will end after defeating the demon king, where Kazuma realizes that he has grown to love that world after all the friendships and connections he has established with his party and the people of Axel Town.

this is one of the few series where an open end actually works in the sense that it would be an oddly fitting given the series sense of cruel irony. if konosuba is about kazuma seeing that his ideal world isn't what it's cracked up to be, an ending where he get's all that he wants but it still bites him in the but is the only one that completes the theme.

either that or give him a harem he may not have wanted but ends up loving anyway

side volumes give quite amazing POV's and insights. maybe in megumin's story, we get to see who is calling kazuma scumzuma or trashzuma behind his back

I decided to read the novel translations. I'm pretty glad I did since it's a great series.

Lately I've been pretty annoyed with harems but this didn't bother me at all.

Megumin's approach to romance is quite interesting. I could almost imagine her giving Kazuma two sets of registration forms - one where she becomes his wife, one where she legally becomes his sister by adoption and asking him which he prefers: the legal loli wife or the non-blood-related younger sister who calls you onii-chan and forgives all his perversions.

I'm thinking you haven't gotten to the part of the story where that choice is pretty much invalidated by the fact that he already identifies her as one (well, part of one), and has found a more suitable candidate for the other.

And the reason you're not annoyed with this series being somewhat a harem series, is that it is a comedy first, last, and most places in between. "Harem", as well as any other genre it appears to be from time to time, is just a mask it puts on to better set up the next joke.

My friend told me the WN ended open/harem end while another told me the story was picked up before the WN finished. I honestly don't know much about this series other than the manga, the anime is on my backlog. Is the skythwood translation the web or light novel also should I marathon the anime is it any good does it follow the WN or LN? If so what volume does it leave off at?

1 sky isn't translating either, they're doing a fanfiction that isn't the LN

2 watch the anime, it's adapted well for the most part as it covers 2 volumes, but you should read the first 2 volumes again for the the small parts it skipped.

3 anime ends right before volume 3
