Ep.1
This ep.was actually pre-aired in the last week. Production Value is pretty great. It's good to see 501 group again. I am gonna guess that Althea have magic and might become witches in the future since she seems to be able to hear something the others can't.

We're off to a solid start so far
Quote:
I wager that Road to Berlin is starting on a familiar footing to get viewers back into the swing of things. With the aforementioned operation, the fact that Strike Witches has been steadily improving over the years and the very title of this third season, expectations are going to be very high indeed.

Well hey, being able to calm a crazed bear isn't even in the top 10 of crazy things Yoshika has done .
Definitely a tricky spot there. I'd say at this point there shouldn't be much of a rule on what neuroi may or may not do. But maybe I'm just biased. Didn't think they had much problem with water considering all the snow based action scenes in Brave Witches . Time to get some backup and deal with this situation.

Supplementary materials suggest that the Neuroi aren't able to cross large bodies of water like oceans: compared to that, snow is nothing. Considering the look of shock on Yoshika's face, I imagine that water-traversing Neuroi are either unheard of, or extremely uncommon. The implications are something that this series will do well to explore, fuelling excitement.

I was somewhat put off by the lead-in section when they insisted on putting on close-ups of every witch's butt. It's frankly fanservice in its least titilating, most insulting-to-the-viewer form.
Fortunately, they quickly cut the crap and the rest of the episode was quite good. |

I'm of the opinion that the quality of a SW episode is inversely proportional to it's pantsu exposure, and considering how well restrained this was I do hope it's a sign of good things. Like mentioned, the show has improved a good deal beyond its fanservice roots over the years, and as someone who really liked Brave Witches I hope this outing for the 501st is on the same upward trend.
That said I wouldn't mind seeing the 502nd make an appearance.

Ah, it's nice to see the old crew again.
As always, our first encounter is a ship being attacked at sea. One assumes some sea travel must be possible in this world without Neuroi showing up to obliterate it, but we never see it. I remember in Brave Witches that the Neuroi were temporarily blocked by a lake, which they dealt with by sending out an enormous electric fan Neuroi to freeze it solid. There may be something to this tale of them disliking water. Certainly we've never seen any aquatic Neuroi. However, they sure do spend a loy of time flying above water. I wonder if the writing staff forgot a plot point: Yoshika can't just use any striker unit. She burns them out with her insane overpoweredness. Her unit was specially designed for her to accomodate that. So... I wonder what sort of Neuroi we'll face this time. Will it be the intelligent Neuroi from Brave Witches who were clearly capable of strategic planning and thus kept the pressure on the 502nd, or will it be the "monster of the week" variety from seasons 1 & 2?
