I got mine a few days ago~ I've already read it about six times.
I'm actually pretty surprised at the... how do I word this? "Yuri subtexts," maybe? But knowing how Tsumugi is, I guess I really shouldn't be surprised. I mean, I always knew she was a yuri fangirl, but it's noticeably more apparent in the manga.

I have the japanese editions so its kind of interesting to see how they translated volume 1. Its not terrible... but there were a number of awkward bits. OTOH, some of the gags are wordplay and those are often a bear to deal with.
As for the yuri subtext: yeah its more pronounced in the manga (and not really unexpected in an all-girls high school situation, "you go with what is available" sez Mugi). I give the anime points for muting it a bit and focusing on the friendship bonding. My only real complaint is the same complaint I have with almost all english editions -- the artwork is smudgy compared with the originals. It has to do with the quality of paper used in the printing and the resolution of scanning amongst other things but its always a bit annoying when the original was 600 yen and you're paying nearly $12 for less quality. Nonetheless, I support Yen Press for their work (as long as they avoid pulling TP or ADV unreliability antics).

Interesting facts I learned upon reading the appendices:
- Kakifly does NOT like fried oysters, despite his nickname. - He plays guitar, owns at least three of them (all are Gibsons – probably why he made Yui play a Gibson as well) and is a lefty (and based Mio's left-handedness on himself). Overall speaking, I was quite satisfied with how Yen Press handled it. You could argue over their use of pop music over light music, but they explained why they did it like that, and I thought it made sense, so no complaints from me.

I just bought the 1st Volume in English at the store and I just read the 1st Three pages and already I'm disappointed with the English Translations. I hope it gets better because I love K-ON and I don't want the manga to disappoint me.

yeah, i pretty much agree about how satisfying the end was. here's to hoping that he'd handle this well. what will it be about? side-stories before grad? or, or, college life? OMG. I don't know what to think. i can't sleep anymore.XDD
WHat if it's about what we are to see in the film? 0_o this is to having new source materials for another tv season? i'm having mixed feelings here. |

I for one would not mind seeing them grow further as human beings.
Yui-chan has finally found a calling in life; the only question is, as it is a hobby-based calling, would it conflict with where her university studies would take her for the rest of her life. Yes, its an all women's university (which makes fears of things staying the same somewhat grounded), but it would be interesting to see if Mio would conquer her androphobia and fear of things in general, which unfortunately was not QUITE resolved by Episode 26. Ritsu learning responsibility and how to calm down.... Going boldly where no Tainaka has gone before... Mugi-chan is now TRULY heading out into the wide world rather than the artificially controlled enviroment of High-School's innocence. The question now remains; does she actually "love" any of her three sisters "the most." Azunyan, we'll be waiting for you!! And Nodoka, although its not made certain which University you ended up at, your occasional sanity-providing presence will be much welcome as always.

Hmm... Interesting. Not really sure what to make of it... I've said before that I do not want a new season of the anime that goes past the point where the manga ended... It reached a logical end point, so just leave it be. But if the original author himself creates an actual sequel (IF indeed that is what this is) then, that might change things... If it's as good as the original, that is.

And with this, the doors of K-ON! season 3 have been busted wide open. I guess all that remains is an official announcement of KyoAni.
