Amaama to Inazuma (Sweetness and Lightning)
Quote:
Having lost his wife, math teacher Kouhei Inuzuka is doing his best to raise his young daughter Tsumugi as a single father. He's pretty bad at cooking and doesn't have a huge appetite to begin with, but chance brings his little family and one of his students, Kotori Iida, together for homemade adventures. With those three cooks in the kitchen, it's no wonder this dinner table drama is so delicious. Source: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...in-july/.99072

Side cast will include Tomatsu Haruka and Seki Tomokazu.
Also, there will be a special movie released on May 5, showcasing the main characters. (That will be the day I'll be found half-dead in a pool of my own nosebleed. Dad!Nakamura... haa haa...) |

I feel like it's been 300 years since I last saw a character that is the pure definition of moe. Tsumugi is so adorable. I don't want to take her home, I want to go to her home and cook her something delicious and be happy with that. I really feel for Kouhei and I'm really glad that he and Tsumugi had this fateful encounter with Kotori. It's a sad world but blessings will keep coming. I'm emotionally moved by the fact that Kouhei's wife passed away (it wasn't that long ago as well, damn!) and I'm sure I will keep getting sadfaced as they show us more of Tsumugi''s memories with her mom / Kouhei's memories with his wife.
Also for those who didn't know / didn't watch the live cast special, Tsumugi is voiced by Endou Rina and she turns 11 this year. I was looking forward to her performance because a kid getting voiced by an actual kid does not happen all the time and I must say I wasn't disappointed. It feels quite natural which makes me happy.

Episode 1:
Wonderful, I got everything from what I had expected. Cute characters, realism, great chemistry between all the characters especially the father/daughter. And the food looks natural too, nothing too extraordinarily but just the right way it is. OP and ED theme songs are nice, the atmospheric setting feels good, and this was just perfect. Can't wait for Mondays each week.

Wow ... this was a well done premier ep for the adaptation. Color me impressed. Not surprised though - I am a sucker for things like this, and the manga was pretty good too.
Looks like I have another series to commit to! ^^

When I read the summary I thought I might like this. When I saw the OP I knew I was going to like it. And when I saw the episode I loved all of it! So adorable, lovely with some sad feels of lose and happy feelings of gain in all between it. <3
A really good first episode, hope it keeps up that level for the whole series. I was wondering why we saw no picture of Kotori's mom as I expected her to be like a "love interest" for Kouhei, but after hearing that it was only 6 months after his wife's death and seeing how he struggles raising a young child, doing housechores and working his job it is no wonder that there was no pic of her. Dude learning to cook and spending more time with his daughter at dinner is more important than love comedy. It feels like a real family comedy with funny bits like the Kotori calling her mom for advice or Kouhei telling Tsumugi his poopies went back up when he came back. xD The character shown in the OP look all lovely and warm and I can't wait to see them all in this story of two stranger families (or at least half of that other family as the mom seems to be always busy elsewhere) getting their heads together how to cook dinner and then eat it together. While watching Kouhei dealing with his little daughter and Kotori trying to remember all the tricks her mom uses whie cooking. <3

Aww. This was pretty sweet and heartwarming. Prior to the show I was a bit worried that the little girl would be one of the obnoxious ones, but no, she's actually cute and not obnoxious at all. Also, aww everyone is so nice. Sometimes we need one of these shows...
And that rice looked so good. I'm so hungry now. I just hope that they're not planning to go there wrt the girl's obvious feelings for Kouhei. Please don't go there, story. There's no need. The more low-key they keep this element the better, as far as I'm concerned. (Also this reminded me to check out the author's BL works, I wonder if they're as sweet as this story.) |

OMG TEH CUET!! Tsumugi is the most adorable thing in the morning at all times!
*deep breath* I'm calm. No problem. The expressions in this series are powerful. There are flickers of unhappiness in Tsumugi's expressions, where it feels like she's unsatisfied or sad about something, but she pushes it away to be the wonderful little bundle of cheer that her father needs her to be right now. The impression I get from him is that Tsumugi is basically the only thing he's living for, having lost his wife just a few months ago. He's running on the ragged edge of depression with overwork, stress, loss, trying to support Tsumugi by himself, and somehow even though she shouldn't be old enough to understand any of this, Tsumugi understands that he needs her to be strong and cheerful right now. ...I'm not crying, shut up! Poor Kotori, trying to make a good meal for them without having the proper measurements available. For not knowing for sure what she was doing, she did a good job. If I were to guess at what's coming up, it would be that Kotori wants to be able to cook better, more like her mother can, and is hoping that having someone to cook for will help her get it right. Sensei and Tsumugi need better meals than they've been able to get from convenience-store premade stuff. With these overlapping interests, it just makes sense for them to work together.

That was definitely a nice start. The show really is everything you'd expect, but in a good way. A very cute show and some strong emotions in there as well.
Can definitely get the feeling for the tight spot that family of two is in. Has to be an incredible fight for the teacher to keep himself going strong. Having to stay on top of his job, look after his daughter, and the housework. Can understand as well how he easily fell into the simplest ways to handle the meals just because....his hands were so full already. Certainly Tsumugi is an interesting kid as well. Does her best not to ask for too much though can tell she's a kid who would love to have tastier meals if it was possible. Still getting a feel for Kotori but she's a good character. Best part was her freaking out while leaving that message for her mother. In the end she managed to handle the rice and did a nice job. Performed well under pressure.
