I'm not really sure where the "looks underage by US sensibilities" is coming from, because from the chapters I've read she looks like she might be underage.

"Looks underage by US sensibilities"? On what basis? I don't remember anything in the chapters I've read that would give that impression. Besides, she's also flatter in the anime, whose content warning consists of a tiny TV-14 symbol in a corner on the back cover.

Lets be fair ... by *some* people's sensibilities in the US (granted... very *loud* idiot ones). But "underage" means anything from 14-18yrs IN the US. It depends on what state you're in. Not that the screamers realize that sort of thing either....

Whatever... medieval sensibilities allowed for anything capable of having babies being "eligible".

Meh, those people will likely be the same idiots who decided you can MAKE porn/babies before you can watch it. Funny really when you think about it!

Horo is meant to appear around 15/16 in human form though IIRC, so I can see why the label has appeared, because with the way things are these days, companies have to cover thier backs.

Its all fun and games when it comes to politics in this area, and not just in the US.

I just find it frustrating that they put a warning on it because I'm not trying to get any jollies off this.

Yeah she's beautifully drawn, but that is all. And also, even if she does "appear" to be 15ish... I thought that in most of the canonical artwork she looked (for lack of a better term) "legal" and on top of that she is well beyond that age anyway, though Tyr makes a fair argument about companies having to cover their backs.

On a semi-related note, I know a few girls who look quite a few years younger than they are, so...

Also, I'm very conservative, but I'm not seeing the point of warnings and censorship here. People will find a way to pervert something one way or another if that is their goal. So, in this case, providing warnings such as this just makes it even easier for someone like that to look for something to pervert!

But, I don't know where I'm going with this now, so I'm going to stop typing.

The original Japanese manga is catergorized as a seinen manga, meaning it is targeted for 18-30 years old male audience. The companies that translated the manga probably stamped the misleading warning label on the manga to show that this manga was meant for an older audience to keep it consistent with the original japanese version, as the manga was definately not designed to target teens under 18 years old.

But I must say, they could have thought better ways to do that, instead of making the manga look like a trashy cartoon porn book.

In the past, everyone just stuck a 16 or 18+ warning label on the back and maybe shrinkwrapped the book if it they were really worried.

Although I guess shrinkwrap isn't foolproof. My girlfriend once pointed out to me a non-shrink wrapped copy of Kannazuki no Miko while we were browsing a local Chapters, the implication being that someone had removed said shrink wrap. For those that have only seen the anime version of KnM, I'll just say that the manga is a little more explicit in parts.

Hmmm... I'm wondering, are they going to have both the normal and variant covers released for the English adaptation?

Granted the "alternate/variant cover" is a dust jacket, but...

So, here they are:

Spoiler for Original::

Spoiler for Alternate::

In the case of Manga, the picture which the cartoonist drew himself should be used as a book jacket.
Since I buy a book in the Internet bookstore, even if "warning" is displayed on the cover, I do not care.
But there is nothing to worry about a Japanese version.
Today is a release date of the Manga volume 4.
Spending two years, it reached the Nora part at last.
The conclusion of Manga is likely to take in 20 years or more at this pace.

Hahaha... that's a long time; I would love to see the series last that long (if the material were new). But, I know that is not the case. *sigh*

Speaking of the Manga character, I think that the Manga version of Nora is the best.
Nora of a Manga version cries, laughs, or has a rich expression a little.
Speaking of Horo, I think that a novel version's Horo has dignity and tolerance, an anime version's Horo has cuteness and a Manga version's Horo has bewitchment.

In an addition, today is also a release date of the May issue of Dengeki Maoh.
An appendix is an art book of Keito Koume.

Ahhhhh, it would be nice to get my hands on that artbook in the appendix! I will will definitely be on the look out!

Kaguya, thanks for the update!!!

Picked up Vol.1 one today.

Since I wasn't really following this thread (or the manga until now), I was a bit surprised why is it wrapped up and has the PA warning on the cover

Having the Prologue and Ch.01 of the novel inserted at the end is a nice touch but it's also rather silly that we have to read that last part from lef to right, while the manga goes from right to left

Yeah, saw the shrink-wrapped first manga volume in the bookstore last night. It does have a few nude scenes and apparently we must "think of the children" who might be traumatized by skin (rather than worry about the exploding organs and violence pictured on the next shelf in other works).

Nice to see it on the shelf though

I've already done my complaining about the "warning" in multiple places, so I won't go on another tirade, but... yeah I'm not happy about it... could've just put a discreet warning on the back if they felt one was necessary.

Why didn't they just put a warning sticker on the shrink wrap?

Shrink wrap has an amazing ability to "disappear" in the stores. If the warning label were on the shrink wrap, the label would disappear as well.

Heh, you noticed that too. To be honest, I've been guilty of that myself if I think the reasoning is garbage.

I'd rather see shrink-wrap on the ultra-violent stuff as well if we're going that route... or just shrinkwrap it all, muhahahahaha.

Oh well, as Star stated, at least the artbook has the untainted artwork for the cover!!!

Can't wait to get my hands on my copy (which has been waiting back at home for me for like 2 weeks now)!
