She can act as a witness and a storyteller for the events of other Puella Magi in an episodic series about various Puella Magi around the world.

An episodic series won't be as mundane as it sounds if it focuses on various personal issues instead of the generic monster of the week. One can be about a girl who wished a loved family member back to life, another about bullying and suicide, another about pursuing a vocation and uncertainly over the future, etc. There are many coming of age stories that can be touched upon, and it doesn't have to be just about Homura. She can just be the narrator.
Sounds quite a bit like Hell Girl sans Ai to me, really...

Actually, now that I think about it, Madoka would fit Ai's role reasonably well here. <_<

drama cd 1 explains the black cat

timeline 1 Madoka became a magical girl to save a dying cat that was hit by a car

however, she keeps this a secret from Mami, who would otherwise scold her for becoming a magical girl for such a "half hearted reason"

Thats like her...

Drama CD synopsis

Set during episode 10

Homura is released from the hospital. She's all emo because she thinks she has been a burden to other people for all her life.

Homura transfers to Mitakihara. She meets a black cat, on a way and takes a liking to it.

Homura's first day of school consist mostly of her failing every subject and her listening to people badmouth her. "You'd think a bedridden person would have time to read books? ect ect.."

next she fails her PE session.. she hears more people badmouthing her "being a hospital discharge is sure nice.. you have have an excuse to slack away during PE"

Homura hears this and decides to push her frail body pass its limit.

Madoka sees this and decides to give her a helping hand. She places an enhancement spell on Homura that helps her pass a running jumping test. But when Homura tries to do a second jump, her legs won't stop running and she is carried away by her feet.

Madoka telepath instant messages Mami to help her dispel the enhancement, which she does. Homura stops running but she falls unconscious because she overexerted herself. When Homura wakes up, Madoka tries to explain things, but isn't sure how to. Homura blames herself and goes emo again.

Witch Isabel senses this and starts whispering thoughts of suicide into Homura's head. While walking home, Homura gets depressed enough to wonder into Isabel's barrier as per episode 10

Madoka and Mami save Homura from Isabel, and they brief her on things. Madoka admits that the PE accident was her fault and apologizes for that. Homura wonder if she should become a magical girl too. Madoka seems excited, but Mami tells her that you should never become a magical girl on whim. Being a magical girl is a calling and not an escape.

Madoka walks Homura home. They meet the black cat Homura met earlier. Madoka says that Mami is right in her reasoning, but the truth is, Madoka became a magical girl to save this black cat from being hit by a car. She's a text book example of someone who became a magical girl on whim, so she asks Homura to keep it a secret from Mami. Homura however, says that kindness is cool.

Madoka tells Homura that should she ever become a magical girl, Homura must think about wish seriously and not decided it on whim. Homura promises Madoka.

The conversation then turns more morbid. Madoka say that she wanted to adopt this black cat, but apparently it likes being independent. Still, if something were to happen to her, she would like Homura to take care of the cat. Homura panics. Madoka says that she's not planning on dying soon or anything.. it's just that battles with witches have an unpredictable element to them and no one really knows what can happen inside a witch barrier. Madoka says she's sorry for making Homura worry about her, but she tells her one last advice. During a storm, do not under any circumstances leave your house. Madoka then excuses herself because she has to prepare for Walpurgis Night

Time passes and suddenly Madoka is absent from class. At home Homura wonders what this Walpurgis Night Mami was talking about is and she googles it. She learns that it refers to a Witch festival and deduces that it's not a good thing in context of magical girls. She also notices that it is storming outside and remembers Madoka's warning. Homura goes out anyway.

On her way she runs into the black cat earlier who helps her lead Homura towards Madoka.

And the rest we know...

At that night Homura became a magical girl, but she still did not know the true meaning of it until much later.

End of Drama CD 1

The black cat's name is Amy. In fact, Aoi Yūki has a cat with the same name

Thanks for that. It very neatly explains a few things that were left out in the series. Such as how Madoka and Mami were there just in time to save Homura from Isabel. They were worried and were following her after school.
More important is Madoka telling Homura about the cat. It lets her know when and where to begin her intervention to keep Madoka from becoming a magical girl starting with timeline 4.
Well done!

Walpurgis Night card info is out on the official site

-- Walpurgis Night is the Witch of the Festival
-- Walpurgis Night is an alias. Real name is unknown.
-- It can be speculated that Walpurgis is a collection of several witch souls gathered into one being. But there is no solid evidence to this.

The Witch of the Festival sounds like a reference to the German folklore.

Why do I get the impression shaft just read internet forums and thought "hey, that sounds pretty good"

From the wiki:

Quote:
The witch of stage settings (alias: Walpurgis Night / real name: unknown); its nature is helplessness. It symbolizes the fool who continuously spins in circles. The witch's mysteries have been handed down through the course of history; its appellation is "Walpurgis Night." It will continue to rotate aimlessly throughout the world until it completely changes the whole of this age into a drama. When the doll's usual upside-down position reaches the top part of the witch, it completely roils the civilization on the ground in a flash through its gale-like flight.

Ironic that the witch of "helplessness" turns out to be the most powerful witch around prior to Gretchen if it isn't a composite witch.

Guys, the only reason Madoka became God was because her mom let her run out of the shelter to save Homura.

And the only reason Madoka's mom let her do that was because her earlier conversation with Kazuko (Madoka's teacher) convinced her to let Madoka make her own decisions.

And the entire conversation in which Kazuko basically creates Madoka's God form is juxtaposed to Michelangelo's Creation of Adam:

http://wiki.puella-magi.net/File:Mic...dam_in_Bar.jpg
http://wiki.puella-magi.net/File:Cre...reflection.jpg

God creates Adam. Kazuko creates Madoka.

That being said, Madoka is not God. The Junko Iwao character is God.

Yes, Akane. You're God, now.

If Madoka was forced to stay in the shelter, watched over properly... she might get desperate enough to contract right there and then. Who cares what people will think when there's a big reset due anyway.

If Madoka was forced to stay in the shelter, Homura would have turned into a Witch.

But wouldn't Madoka negate this witch just like the others? Although in that case, Homura might not be able to make the last jump and witness the spectacular ending.

And anyway, I DO expect there to be a legitimate explanation for Madoka's power that isn't "She is born with the potential that is only granted to 1 in a million girls" or "She has power because her beautifully pure heart is transformed into pure energy which becomes power". Because that'll kind of ruin PMMM.
From what I hear, it is relate to the Karma (reincarnation, alternative reality) of madoka in different timelines. Since Homura was trying to save her, her wish focus of saving her best friend's life at all cost. By interfering in different timelines, her wish collects energy from those timelines that later on focus on Madoka. This is what I hear so far in another thread.

... Dude, I posted that before Eps 11 and 12 came out. That was a speculation. Don't just dig out old speculation posts and then go on about how not correct they are, capice?

Madoka is undoubtedly connected to other timelines. She had a dream about timeline 4 at the beginning of ep1, and then there was the static at ep8. Aside from Homura, none of the other girls show any hint of being aware of anything outside their own time. It was already hinted that Madoka was special.

Madoka..... slowly face palms*

That would totally be something Jesus would do though.

Jesus would just go and revive the cat. Besides, as I remember from the New Testament, He is far more proof against insistent contract-makers. Madoka's decision, however, makes perfect sense in context of the circumstances and her personality.
What is interesting, though... if Mami is unaware of Madoka's wish, it means the first timeline went differently from what we saw in the show. Not only Sayaka is uninvolved, but it's also possible that Mami and Madoka only met after Madoka contracted.
