I just recently finished reading the first two volumes and I think it was...okay, I think. Despite how everyone seemed to praise Ren, I personally found him a little too bland.
I don't really find his interaction with Riona as charming as Godou's with Erica either. Sure, he got a stand-offish attitude but his interactions with Riona and Cassandra are just very distant compared to Godou's trust for Erica to have his back completely. His in-battle persona also doesn't have that bloodthirsty charm like Godou, either. He's a little bit like Doni in regard to his lightheartness but Doni works great as a character who cared little others besides those whom he could fight with. Godou's in-battle persona works great as a great contrast to his everyday one where there is a sense of silent respect and rapport between equal warriors despite their differences as well. I haven't found anything of that sort with Ren yet. His smooth talking doesn't bring enough conflicts when he met other Gods or Campione. We'll see how it goes in the next volume but Shiniki really isn't as good as OG Campione so far. |

Makes sense In any case i'm enjoying the formation of the harem in this series more than the original. Most people point to Ren as the main factor, but for me it's equally the fact that we see the initial development for riona, stella (though she kinda parallels erica in that she had met ren prior to v1, which we'll probably see in a later volume) and cassandra happen together from the start. It just feels more organic edit - And having just finished v1, i can say that this series overall got off to a much better start. Jou didn't hand hold with the mythology here; we're thrust right into the middle of the troy conflict with all the big players (achilles, hector, odysseus, ajax, paris, cassandra) and all the gods on each side (Poseidon, athena, hera v aphrodite, ares, apollo). Athena feels slightly weaker here (which makes sense because the nature of heretic gods required more strats to deal with) but the shear quantity and scale of opponents more than makes up for this. Jou-Sensei is just re-iterating why IMO he's the best Mythology author in the LN game. There are some similar story beats (ie showing the grittyness of the original myths, origins of the gods ect. But the biggest difference here is that these events aren't just happening around the MC. His motivations aren't an open book but Ren is very much a willing participant, which makes for a far more engaging narrative. Last edited by KnightShade; 2019-05-28 at 19:30. |

I was thinking.
In Campione we have Divine Ancestor who are goddesses who were killed by Rama. In shiniki in the campioness we have "King of the end Mithras", and so far has not shown Divine Ancestor, but reincarnations like Yatagarasu = Riona, is it that Riona is not the divine ancestral version of "King of the end Mithras"? The two have limitations like Divine Ancestor can not use their divine power without breaking the seal of the serpents resulting in their death. And Yatagarasu = Riona can not use his power without a master. To be a reincarnation first you have to die, and "King of the end Mithras" was killing Gods and Godslayer without discrimination. Mithras was the god of contracts, the reason for Riona not being able to use his power without a master can be an effect of his authority. |
