It isn't like Deen couldn't be doing a better job, though. You at least have to admit that...

The problem is, looks like they aren't even trying. I don't know what happens inside their heads when they choose/not choose the music to be played during episodes. And I'm only talking about music direction. We can imagine the other direction problems...

I watched the anime a long time ago, and I was pretty disappointed overall.
I'm sure that's the consensus over here.

There were only 4 things I liked about the anime that are not attributed to the visual novel already:
  • The OP
  • The ED
  • The art style
    and
    Spoiler for Anime ending:

Maybe it would be decent for someone who didn't play the visual novel, but for me it was almost painful at times to watch

That was in the visual novel.

But there were no sprites for it.

No, there aren't.

Even so, the claim was the Dragon Kinzo was not attributed to the VN originally. If we go by the argument of what there are images of, the anime wins simply because of the medium, hands down.

I have a hypothetical question: If an Umineko Chiru anime was announced, what animation studio would people most like to see it produced by?

Literally anyone but Deen.

Studio DEEN of course, for consistency.
Though if I had to chose a different studio, I'd say Daume would be a good choice, if not them then maybe Nomad.

Daume...? If they aren't going with an atrocious budget like what they did for Yoake... (They are faring sort of well with Shiki, but they still have trouble with animation and budget even now).
As for nomad, they weren't really shown as competent for ending in general, be it Rozen Maiden or Sola...

Daume's impressive work on Shiki is the main reason I thought of them.

I'm pretty sure they'll make a chiru anime eventually to milk the cash cow for all it's worth, but I just hope its not as bad as the first series. It could be so awesome, especially if they get italian and english voice actors for episode 7 (kind of like what they did for senko no night raid though some of those voice actors were pretty bad)

Well maybe if the Chiru manga does well, but DEEN's DVD sales for the first season were so bad I doubt they'll actually make one. They definitely wouldn't think of the anime as a "cash cow".

There's some bad stuff about the manga's art too. Like Krauss not having eyes in some of episode 5's scenes.

(I'll edit that last part out if it's too off topic)

Is Umineko just doomed to not have consistent art?

Kinda makes me wonder if When They Cry would've succeeded as just a novel series. It's writing is the best part of the series after all.~

Not a short novel BTW, an actual full-fledged book of about 300 pages or so.

I think the music was a major aspect of the higurashi and seakitty sound novels so I don't know if the novel book idea would work out for me.

At least I know the anime didn't. Hope they do bother to use the sound novel music and/or all of the remixes that they bother to make from it for chiru. IF there will be a chiru anime.
:/

Eh, there will most likely be a Chiru anime, I'm betting on it being next year.
And then after it's done airing, it'll probably be followed by a Chiru PS3 game.
Well, I can see that happening anyway.

Since apparently everybody doesn't like Chiaki Kon as the director, maybe they'll let Toshifumi Kawase take charge of Chiru like he did with Higurashi Rei.

Higurashi Rei was even more terrible than the main two seasons, though.

Higurashi Rei was an OVA though. It wasn't another season like Kai was.
