The series' official English description reads, "I met the girl under the full-bloomed cherry blossoms, and my fate has begun to change."

The manga debuted in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine in 2011, and the eighth compiled volume shipped in Japan this past January. The series won the Best Shōnen Manga category in Kodansha's 37th Annual Manga Awards last year.

Kōsei Arima is a former child prodigy who lost his ability to play the piano when his mother died. His daily life is monochrome, but it begins to gain color when he meets a female violinist by chance. Kaori Miyazono is an audacious go-getter who is overflowing with personality. Enchanted by the girl, Kōsei starts to move forward with his own legs at the age of 14.

I absolutely love this manga. 2 cours, ha? Great! And I don't know if it can "beat" Nodame Cantabile, mostly because of how different they are. Sure, both are focused on music (there should be more shows like that ^^), but the tone of this series is different. While NC was more light-hearted and funny, this one has a more melancholic tone... Anyway, really looking forward to it. This is gonna be such a great year!

That's a very nice looking PV, and the plot summary, the series being 2-cour, and the recognition for the manga leaves me thinking this could turn out to be a pretty great romance series.

Agreed. This is definitely one I will be checking out.

I also would like to see more series dedicated to music like this.... Still, I may give the first couple eps of the manga a read to get an idea of what I will be getting myself into. ^^

I don't know the manga but that sure is a lovely trailer. Animation and art direction look really nice and I love the design.
It's the first time Kyohei Ishiguro is the chief director of a series. His Amagami SS+ (ep7) was cool and it was said he was inspired by Shin Oonuma & Ei Aoki with diagonal layouts and how he uses lights. I'm curious how he will handle a TV series but this PV is promising (that shot under the tree is neat).

Hmm ... well, after seeing this announcement I picked up the manga and have finished 7 of the 12 chapters currently available. (Perhaps covering up through the end of Vol 3 and a little beyond?)

As far as I can tell it there is a sprinkling of both of the things you mentioned thus far Kanon - but there is a whole lot more. I guess I would put it more in the category of "coming of age" as opposed to slice of life. But it has some pretty serious elements to it.... Good stuff for my tastes at least.

I wonder how they are going to animate some of the elements in the story, though? Or rather I wonder how effectively they will do so? There is music present, as evidenced from the OP - and I wonder how effective they will be at presenting that?

For those who just can't wait I would recommend checking the manga out - it is a good read and certainly has made my grabbed my interest for the adaptation even more....

I agree with what Flower said, this has both the elements of coming-of-age and of romance. And I really do recommend reading the manga. There are 34 chapters released so far, but only 12 of them have been translated, so I only know a third of what's going on there, but so far, so good.
