(L) Akatsuki no Yona [Manga]

So this is where the mass exodus from the anime thread will end up after the last episode. xD

I just wanted to ask if anyone knows what the mangaka's plans for this manga are. Does it look like the story will be finished soon?

My guess is that once the current arc finishes up we'll still have at least two arcs left. But that's just a guess. There's been no word from the mangaka about how much is left that I'm aware of.

I'm torn between wanting to read it for ten more years and wanting to know the end of the story. Now that anime is over I'm living in this thread. xD

Dunno. IMO, the story doesn't look anywhere close to completion. The shield and sword have yet to be revealed or even mentioned. In terms of character motivations and how things will develop, not a lot of answers have been given. I think at best, we could be near the half-way point, now that all the main characters somewhat touched on. And that's only if the manga-ka goes headlong into the conclusion. The manga's been going strong for over five years. I could easily see it go on for another few.

Well part of why it's been going strong is also because there's actual development in it, so I would at least expect to go somewhere interesting regardless of how close it is to ending or such.

I started reading the manga and got almost to the end of the english version and now I have to agree. There is no hurry and the main plot is barely touched upon.

I find this manga unusual in many ways, this development is one of them. Usually when a fantasy manga becomes long (goes past 10 volumes) it's either all action & plot (Claymore, for example) or all romance (pretty much every long shoujo manga) but Yona is neither while it has some elements of both. It is a very confident story that allows itself to linger on character development for even some very secondary characters (Tae-Jun, I'm talking about you.)

Oh, and I started to really like Ki-Ja. He's neglected in the anime once the story moves past their original meeting, but he's such a interesting character and I find his personality and outlook to be one of the most unusual things the manga has to offer. His attitude, too--usually when you see someone who is like a "monster' but actually loves being one and considers it a noble and beautiful thing, that character will be a villain or at least an anti-hero.

I avoided this episode in the manga, but Suwon actually isn't a bad king after what he did for the Earth Tribe and that one general. Though, he's sooo manuevering something behind the scenes.

Oh yes, I have no complaints whatsoever about the pacing. It's so nice having a properly developed story. And I ended up loving Tae-Jun. He started off as such an obnoxious pompous ass, but he's so endearing now. I would love to see the next arc animated. As the arc progressed, I had been entertaining the idea of him having a part in the Hiryuu mythos as well, as the sword or shield, since he clearly wasn't ready for any sort of responsibility. But, I've settled with Hak and Suwon in those roles for the moment.

The Fire Tribe General teamed up with the General of the place where Yona and co are at now to fuck shit up and kill Soo-won. Soo-won's already planned things out. Now I got why he was with that one general and his wife awhile back.

Tae Jun changed; that was a surprise.

I'm on the chapter where the boys and Yona are at a hot spring and Jae sees some nasty scratches on Ki-ja's back. Jae thinks Ki-ja's ashamed of his scars and tries to help him out...but it turns out Kija, being the scaredy cat he can be, wouldn't go in because of a spider

So he got those scars from the previous White Dragon...who was his father. I wonder if that's the one who knew Zeno?

Appreciate the fanservce of a wet Ki-ja by the way. THank you Kusanagi.

There's tumblr and mangalator, or at least that's what I know that has up to date chapters. I don't know where he got the information though since it might be different from me and I haven't looked at the latest chapter yet Most shoujo manga up to date news that I know usually are in there.

ZenoXKaya or KaZe as I've been calling it. In a single chapter they've become one of my favorite ships of any show I watch. Part of me is rather angry that Kaya died young. They should have had more time together...But I guess it was done to highlight how life passes so quickly and how stuck Zeno is.

It really says something that AkaYona has me hoping my favorite character will die at the end. Because 2000+ years is long enough. Zeno deserves to rest.

Yeah, it's so cruel for him to watch everyone pass away knowing he'll never be able to rejoin them. When he screamed, "I’ll stay like this permanently, unable to die! I’ll become your slave forever!!!" out of desperation, that was just terrible. Please let him die after all this is over author.

But the mention about being slave was interesting. We've been getting hints about the dragons' will in all this, and now we have Zeno willing to accept being a slave. On the surface, traveling band of dragon warriors seems like a fun idea and all, but these comments are putting things in perspective...

So I finally caught up! I read the 10 or so volumes after the anime ended in just a few days. Such an alluring story.. you can't stop reading. The plot, character development, romance and comedy are so well mixed together that there's always something going on keeping your attention.

Spoiler for Until chap 100:

Without getting too into the details, I really loved both Fire Tribe and Water Tribe arcs. Lili was ADORABLE <3 this manga really needed more female characters. Tae-jun's character development was great as well but no surprise here, since one of the best things about this manga is Yona's flawless character development after all.

Both times where Yona and co meet with Soo-won.. so full of emotion. Hak's reaction as well. And then chap 100... I haven't felt so astonished with a manga chapter in a long time. It was a similar feeling of when you first start reading Terra Formars or SnK lol speechless..

Also interesting how the romance finally starts to take more relevancy in the story. In the anime you don't really get to clearly see anyone feeling for Yona other than Hak, but at this point it's pretty clear what Kija feels...and that Jae-ha is confused? or is he sure? I'm not convinced enough. About the other main characters.. Shin-ah still feels more like a mother-like love, Zeno nah and then Yun i'm not too sure. It didn't get as much focus as Jae-ha's feelings in the Water Tribe arc, but some comments he made when that kid wanted to marry Yona made a bit suspicious about him.

Zeno's backstory was really well portrayed. The important point here is that what Zero went through is exactly what you would expect a human would face with eternal life, but having to actually see it makes you realize how painful it actually is. I remember when Zero mentioned he had a wife and it was used in as comedy relief, but of course that wasn't as cute as it sounds...

Spoiler for 105:

The end of this mini-arc, and as expected Zeno finally seems to have found the way to face his eternal life and giving it a purpose. The current dragons as kids were adorable. Shin-ah <3. And the last page killed my kokoro ;_; I love these guys...

can't wait for next chapter! hopefully raws don't take too long to come out

I personally think it's time for it to come to an end, cause there really needs something to jumpstart the story...
